Summer Bulletin

N O T E S “It has been 53 years since graduation and yet many of the memories of our four years on the Old SouthMountain remain vibrant. As respective and proud as I amof being a Lehigh University Class of 1969 graduate, the most vivid of mymemories on Old SouthMountain relate tomy three years as an active brother of Pi Lambda Phi (which, unfortunately, no longer is chartered at Lehigh University). Brothers for life certainly rings true for us. In fact, many of my fraternity brothers are friends for life— particularly Dr. Mike Brams, Steve Edwards, Jon Peisinger, Phil Rosen and yours truly, all of the Class of 1969 (we are also in close contact with KenMiller and Alan Kessman of the Class of 1968). [The] Mantells, Edwards, Peisingers and Rosens … hiked with our wives in themountains of Park City, Utah, in the summer of 2017 when we all (sans the Brams) stayed at the terrifc Promontory home of Steve and Jill Edwards to celebrate the year that we all turned 70 years of age. We also got together again (sans theMantells), in 2019 at the Edwards home to celebrate our Lehigh University 50th Reunion. “After graduating Lehigh in June 1969, Steve accepted a Root Tilden Scholarship at NYULaw School. He followed law school with a long and successful career as a real estate attorney and as an owner of amortgage brokerage frm, which he founded and thereafter sold. Steve is still practicing real estate law as a partner in the law frmof Manatt, Phelps &Phillips in CostaMesa, Calif. He and his wife of 44 years, Jill, have homes in Laguna Beach, Calif., and Park City, Utah. They have three children, Ben Edwards ’01, Asher Edwards ’05 and Leah Edwards ’07, all proud Lehigh graduates. Steve and Jill have fve grandchildren. “Dr. Mike Brams, a former Pi Lambda Phi president, is now retired. He practiced pediatricmedicine in Apple Valley, Calif., for over 40 years. Mike earned hisM.D. fromUniversity of Pennsylvania and did his residency at Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. He and his wife, Janis, now live in San Diego, Calif. Mike and Janis have two daughters, Rebecca (Stanford University Class of 1997) and Laura (University of California, San Diego, Class of 2000), and fve grandchildren. “Jon, who was a very active social chairman at Pi Lambda Phi, is also retired. He and his wife, Carol, have homes inNew Canaan, Conn., and at the golf and tennis community of Mirasol Club in PalmBeach Gardens, Fla. Jon spent his entire career in the entertainment industry. As president and COO of Creative Branding Systems, he helped build the world’s largest independent motion picture and home video production/ distribution company, taking it public (NYSE) and serving on its board of directors. Among other highlights of his career, he produced and/or distributed “Dirty Dancing,” “MakingMichael Jackson’s Thriller” and the 1986 “Let’s GoMets” championship video. Jon has two children, Lynsey (WashingtonUniversity in St. Louis, Class of 2001) and Greg Peisinger ’07, who is also a Lehigh graduate and a fraternity brother of Steve’s son, Asher. Jon has one grandchild. “Phil has been retired for some time. After graduating fromLehigh, Phil was a renaissance businessman whose career included time in the real estate industry, the garment industry and as an owner of a health club. Phil has two sons, Evan, a tennis professional, who was a highly ranked Division II tennis champion, and Brian, who is a graduate of Princeton and Harvard (MBA). Phil and his wife, Gloria, have three grandchildren, a home in Heritage Oaks CC in Sarasota, Fla., and a home inMontville, N.J. Phil became a terrifc golfer in his later years and continues to carry a single-digit handicap into his mid-70s. “I, like Steve, am an attorney and still actively practice tax, business, and trust and estate law as a partner in the law frm I founded, namely, Mantell, Prince &Reynolds, PC in Basking Ridge, N.J. I amalso a Certifed Public Accountant. After majoring in accounting at Lehigh, I graduated fromRutgers Law School and also have a LLM in taxation fromNYULaw School. My wife, Ellyn, and I own homes inWatchung, N.J., and at the golf and tennis community of Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton, Fla. Both of our daughters, Allison (Mantell) Gollin ’96 and Emily (Mantell) Golden ’99, live in Cherry Hill, N.J., and are also proud Lehigh graduates. We have four grandchildren. “Mike, Steve, Jon, Phil and I look fondly upon our days at Lehigh University and hope to be able to continue to treasure the memories for manymore years. “Very truly yours, Bruce E. Mantell” ’70Denny Diehl, 28 Chancery Court, Millville, NJ 08332. (610) 698-7136; dennydiehl@aol.com Here’s a prayer for a successful 50th two years late! Don Forrester (donforr@ gmail.com) still owns, for now, the Reunion “commuting distance” award: “I’ll attend Thursday/Friday fromSacramento, Calif. I haven’t been back to campus in 35 years, and it’ll be my frst Reunion. I’ll then leave to joinmy wife and daughter’s family inNYC. My daughter and her son (14) will be on a D.C. tour the week of June 6.” John Bean, Delta Tau Delta brother, Lehigh football player and lifelong resident of Springfeld, Pa., passed away last September. He was a Springfeld High grad who competed in football, wrestling and baseball. John spent many years coaching local Springfeld youths and was an avid Phillies fan. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Carolyn, sons, Brian (wife Tamara) andMichael (Kristie) and four beloved grandchildren. From Craig Hoford (chofford@ou.edu): “After teaching at the University of Oklahoma for 31 years (still teaching online), Paula and I will settle in Henryville, Pa., after closing on our new log home inMay. We’ll be just north of Stroudsburg near Camelback, ninemiles fromdaughter Angela and her husband. After the past 23 years managing a horse farmand teaching, we’ll downsize and look forward to visiting seldom-seen Eastern family and friends. I plan to attend our twice-postponed 50th Reunion. Never been to one but have spent many Lehigh-Lafayette games cheering on the Engineers/MountainHawks as amember of the Lehigh Tailgate Association (with Charlie Lieb and company.) I look forward to hooking up with Craig Anderson ’60 andmy catcher, Rich Revta ’71 at the Reunion and others I haven’t seen in 50-plus years.” ’71SamDugan, 143 Pinecrest Lane, Lansdale, PA 19446. I can always tell it’s reunion time when I get an email from class president Bob Frazier. Bob reports that he semi-retired at the end of last year, thus “bringing largely to a close my formal and long associations with various branches of government at various levels of jurisdiction.” His law license remains active and he retains a Pennsylvania-based multi-state practice via RFFESQ41Legal & Expert Consultants, Ltd. in Harrisburg, Pa. I wonder how the corporate name fts on a business card. I hope everyone had a chance to chat with Bob at our Reunion dinner. 4 8 | L E H I G H B U L L E T I N
