5 The chart above displays participant "quality" ratings of various housing attributes. Each bubble represents one participant’s entry, describing an attribute of their city’s housing. Participants identified attributes, such as "rowhouses," "single-family homes," "aging housing stock," "affordable housing stock," among others. Participants rated the attribute they identified on a scale from 1 (liability) to 5 (asset). We then organized the chart by theme, grouping together the attributes that corresponded to the same theme along a connecting line. Affordability and Access Single Family Zoning and “Missing Middle” Diverse Housing Types and Stock Liability! Asset! Good Bones but Blight These cities highlighted their duplexes and rowhouses as key to allivating the housing crisis with the caveat that these homes are often blighted. Diverse housing stock, rowhouses, townhouses, and duplexes, provides excellent infill and remains a strong housing option today. Participants from Bethlehem labeled the housing crisis as an issue, ranging in quality scores most likely because there is limited affordable stock but what exists is quality. The cities have a limited pre-zoning fabric with predominantly single-family stock. Participants label single-family zoning as low quality in favor of middle housing options.
