Alumni Bulletin Spring 24

64 | LEHIGH ALUMNI BULLETIN | CLASS NOTES egory manager for Unilever North America. Son Robbie, a Purdue engineering grad, married his college sweetheart in June, and they are currently living and working in NYC. Gabi (Lehigh ’23) is also living and working in NYC after graduating with a degree in finance. Olivia is a sophomore at UMass Amherst. In other news, sometimes an informal Lehigh gathering is just what’s needed to recharge life’s batteries. Your co-columnists got to do exactly that during a terrific fall gathering at Rachel (Dubow) Mendelson’s house in Weston, Conn., including Amy (Gold) Blau, Alyssa (Greif) Yavner and Liz Fischer. Rachel loves living in this part of Connecticut with her husband, Peter, and daughter, Noelle, a senior at UVA. Rachel celebrated 23 years at TIAA in NYC, now serving as associate general counsel and managing director. Alyssa spent the last 20-plus years in Chappaqua, N.Y., with husband Larry, daughter Jesse, a second-year medical student at SUNY Downstate, and son Mac, a recent University of Michigan graduate. Alyssa is a partner and CFO of Taconic Capital in New York City. Liz, who has lived in NYC for 30plus years, works in Manhattan for entertainment giant BMI as its chief communications and marketing officer. We were excited to hear from Kara (Villamil) Gavin, who was elected this year as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for her work in science communication and training researchers to communicate with the press and public. Kara works at the University of Michigan and lives in nearby Plymouth, Mich., with her husband and 15-year-old daughter. Please keep the updates coming! We want to hear from you! ’93 Darren Saks, Dksaksinc@yahoo. com, 201-310-8460 This is my second installment of updates, and it’s great to hear from those around the Lehigh community, especially from our special class. Please keep them coming. On a personal note, since my daughter is presently a Class of ’27 first year, I can say firsthand how incredible the campus looks, even with the scaffolding hiding the UC. This year’s Lehigh-Lafayette game and weekend were a blast. The weather was great, the tailgating energy was as expected—off the charts—and the best hanging window sheet I saw was “LAF = Stacey and Lehigh = Stacey’s mom.” For those who haven’t been on campus in a while, in kind with the generational tendencies of millennials and Gen Zers taking short cuts, Lehigh-Lafayette is now Le-Laf. It’s now a whole week of events, and morning cocktails are simply mo-cos. It was great to hear from Greg Pappas. Greg and his wife, Kim Myers Pappas, missed the reunion but spend a lot of time with Andy Perry and Danielle (Levison) Perry. Greg is working hard for a private equity firm, Berkshire Partners, and has been for the last 13 years. Kim focused on raising their three daughters very successfully, where Caroline (25) lives and works in London, Emily (23) is working on her doctorate in physical therapy at UNC Chapel Hill, and Courtney (20) is attending University of Miami, where she is in the third of a fiveyear architecture program. They live in Wayland, Mass., and are lucky enough to have an escape at Martha’s Vineyard, where they hang out with many Lehigh friends. They stay very connected to the Lehigh community through their altruistic support of LUSSI, Lehigh University Student Scholars Institute, a program that fosters a culture of inclusion and support for first-generation, lower-income and diverse populations at Lehigh. I heard from my old friend and hallmate Mitch Ross, who lives in Red Bank with his wife and daughter, and they enjoy summers in Long Branch. He sees some of his old Sigma Nu fraternity brothers, and I told him my family frequents Long Branch so we should try and get an informal Class of ’93 reunion there or, at the very least, grab a drink at Rooney’s, which hopefully anyone who goes to the Jersey Shore knows about. That’s all for now. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2024. ’94 Michael B. York, 575 West End Avenue #9A, New York, NY 10024; michael.york@nyplaw.com; (917) 575-9391 My family has friends who are building a home in Nantucket. They took us on a tour of the property and introduced us to their builder—Steve Roethke! Small world. He and his wife, Jill (Roddin) Roethke ’92, have lived on Nantucket for over 20 years. They raised their sons, Tyler (a senior at UMass Amherst and a swimmer, of course), and Justin (a freshman at the University of Tampa), there. Jill and Steve celebrated their 25th anniversary this year with a trip to Portugal. Wilson Fung has lived in Hong Kong since our time at Lehigh. His daughter, Zoe, is now 8. Wilson has been selling corporate bonds for a mainland Chinese government bank for many years. Although he doesn’t see many classmates, his freshman roommate Mark Flanzer recently came for a visit. Heather Davis Chemtob lives and works in Silicon Valley, where she is the VP of strategic marketing at TriSalus Life Sciences. Heather and husband Victor’s son is in the 10th grade, volunteering in the civil air patrol with the goal of going into the U.S. Air Force. Heather (Zaslansky) Kay started her own company, Ready Aim Impact, focusing on helping individuals leverage their strengths or talents to enhance their success. She recently hosted a two-day overnight retreat for women called Camp Strengths, providing women an opportunity to learn about what makes them successful. Heather’s daughter is a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where one of her best friends is Dara Cherkas, daughter of Mike Cherkas ’93. Heather’s son is also at Wisconsin. Heather and her family live in the Philly suburbs. John Scott lives in Alexandria, Va., and has two kids, 17 and 13. He recently sold his company, Ion Channel, to Exiger. I would tell you what it said in the press release, but like I’ve mentioned before, I got a D- in computer science in the fall of 1990. Congrats are obviously in order for “The Big Guy”! Dana Moyles Eberle recently attended the wedding of Pam Brady to Bill Serviss this summer. It was a big AOPi reunion, including Sara Kleiner-Goudey, Jennifer (Shannon) Davidson, Shannon (Vanmeter) Kishel, Liz Gosen, Brooke (Marriott) Bartletta (and husband Simon Bartletta) and Sharon (Sabo) McGuinness. Alexis (Corr) Davis moved from small business manufacturing into the cybersecurity industry in Columbia, Md., working for MISI (Maryland Innovation & Security Institute). Along with husband Evan, Alexis has four kids: daughter Sophie, a senior lacrosse player at the University of Pennsylvania; daughter Cece, a sophomore at Beacon College; son Michael, a high school senior; and daughter Lila, a high school sophomore.
