A Delta Chi brother, Mr. Walsky worked in fnancial management for several companies, including Thun Investment Co. and theWyomissing Foundation before becoming the owner and operator of Walsky Investment Management, Inc. He was a member of the Asa Packer and Tower societies. His son, Eric Walsky, is amember of the Class of 1983. John L. Canova ’59, Boulder, Colo., March 24, 2022. A football player and Phi Gamma Delta brother, Mr. Canova was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a senior executive inmarketing for Time Inc., at Time-Life Books and at St. Anthony’s Publishing. He was the Class of 1959’s co-correspondent for nearly a decade and won the Alumni Award in 2019 for his dedication to the university. Gilbert E. Loper ’59, Greenville, S.C., March 21, 2022. Mr. Loper served in the U.S. Army. He spent themajority of his career working forMetropolitan Life Insurance Company. George K. Lummis ’59, Birmingham, Ala., March, 4, 2022. A Sigma Phi brother, Mr. Lummis made his career with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. He retired as the director of industrial relations for North America. Charles F. McClurg Jr. ’59, Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 6, 2022. A member of Tau Beta Pi honor society, Mr. McClurg spent his 37-year career with Proctor & Gamble. He was also amember of the Tower Society. John E. Murphy ’59, Vestal, N.Y., Jan. 8, 2022. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the KoreanWar, Mr. Murphy was a licensed professional engineer inNewYork and Pennsylvania and retired fromNewYork State Electric and Gas Corporation after 35 years. Mitchell E. Sisle ’59, Philadelphia, Pa., March 30, 2022. Mr. Sislemade his career as an engineer with Raytheon, where he helped develop the PATRIOTGuidance Test and Simulation Facility. He served on the LUAA Board of Directors as an alumnus. W. Robert Smith ’59, Citrus Hills, Fla., Feb. 3, 2022. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in Korea. He was a Delta Phi brother. Hemade his career as the owner-manager of The Ironstone Lodge at Mt. Snow, Vt. His daughter, Tina (Smith) Novick, is amember of the Class of 1988. Christopher A. Wilson ’59, Tega Cay, S.C., Jan. 24, 2022. Mr. Wilson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a Sigma Phi brother. He was a licensed engineer in multiple states and spent most of his career as president of Beitman andHuyett Inc. 1960s Howarth C. Gilmore ’60, Hackettstown, N.J., March 26, 2022. A Sigma Phi Epsilon brother, Mr. Gilmore worked as an engineer for Summit Associates and the Township of Teaneck, N.J. Jo N. Hays ’60, Oak Park, Ill., March 20, 2022. A Theta Xi brother, Dr. Hays was a history professor at Loyola University for 37 years. A historian of science and disease, his best-known work was “Burdens of Disease.” His most recent work, “Epidemics and Pandemics fromAncient Plagues toModern Threats,” was recognized as one of the best references of 2021 by Library Journal. Richard A. Kalady ’60, Allentown, Pa., Jan. 17, 2022. Mr. Kalady worked as a sales manager in the computer software industry. Robert Lazarchick ’60, West Reading, Pa., Jan. 25, 2022. Mr. Lazarchick’s professional career evolved over a span of 50 years, working in engineering, sales andmanagement. He retired fromTerre Hill Concrete as president and CEO. Michael J. McNamara ’60, Hamburg, N.Y., Feb. 19, 2022. Mr. McNamara was a Beta Theta Pi brother and amember of the track and cross-country teams. He spent his career with BethlehemSteel Corporation. Stephen F. Payer Sr. ’60, LinthicumHeights, Md., Feb. 20, 2022. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Payer made his career withWestinghouse. E. WilliamRoss Sr. ’60, Villanova, Pa., April 25, 2022. Mr. Ross was an Alpha Tau Omega brother and amember of The Brown andWhite and the soccer team. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Professionally, he rose through the ranks to become chairman and CEO of Key Chemicals, Inc. He also owned and operated Pelmor Laboratories, Inc. and Pelseal Technologies, LLC. He was very involved with his class leadership as an alumni volunteer, as well as the LUAA Board of Directors. For his dedication, he won the Alumni Award in 1985 and the Joseph R. Persa ’48 Award in 1990. His father, Edwin Ross ’32, and children, Edwin Ross Jr. ’90 and James Ross ’93, aremembers of the Lehigh family. Attila L. Salamon ’60, Line Lexington, Pa., Feb. 8, 2022. Mr. Salamon was a Phi Delta Theta brother and amember of the swimming and soccer teams. He worked for LockheedMartin as an engineer. Robert J. Scavuzzo ’60, Emmaus, Pa., Feb. 14, 2022. Dr. Scavuzzo was a brother of Delta Chi. He spent most of his career working with Bell Labs, working on the predecessors of today’s smartphones. Leonard L. Schmidt ’60, Maitland, Fla., Jan. 16, 2022. A Sigma Nu brother, Mr. Schmidt made his career in the savings and loan industry. Later in life, he became an entrepreneur, owning and running several businesses and consulting groups. Edwin J. Wendlocher Sr. ’60, Jeferson Township, N.J., Jan. 27, 2022. An Alpha Tau Omega brother, Mr. Wendlocher worked for many corporations as an environmental health and safety engineer, eventually starting his own consulting business. He published the book “InfammationNation” regarding how certain foods directly afect arthritis pain and swelling. Thomas R. Daniels ’61, Sausalito, Calif., April 15, 2022. Mr. Daniels was a member of the baseball team. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for United Airlines as director of business services. Wayne J. Fischer ’61 M.S. ’62, Boulder, Colo., April 12, 2022. Amember of the Gryphon Society, Dr. Fischer worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, where he was instrumental in implementing the transfer of weather forecasting technology to the international community.
