N O T E S Asa Packer and Tower societies. William E. Hopler ’53, Long Valley, N.J., March 5, 2022. Mr. Hopler worked at Allied Chemical/Allied Signal for many years in several diferent managerial and director positions. J.K. Snyder ’53, Taylors, S.C., Dec. 29, 2021. As a quality assurancemanager, Mr. Snyder worked on the NASA Apollo programand for a variety of corporations, including General Electric, Honeywell, Control Data and Seagate. Upon retiring, he became involvedwith Furman University’s Lifelong Learning Program, teaching over 50 courses. During his stint as president, he helped to raise the funds for the program’s building. He also volunteered with his local Lehigh alumni club. Bert Schweigaard-Olsen ’54, Sarasota, Fla., Feb. 25, 2022. Mr. Schweigaard-Olsen was a Kappa Alpha brother. He worked for Procter & Gamble and Corning Glass, where he was awarded patents. He went on to head his own executive recruiting frm in New York City. He was an active alumnus, volunteering with his class, including as class correspondent for 50 years. He led regional clubs and was a member of the LUAA Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Tower Society. For his dedication to the university, he won the Alumni Award in 2009. Harvey N. Weiss ’54, Delray Beach, Fla., Nov. 1, 2021. Mr. Weiss was a Tau Delta Phi brother. A successful entrepreneur and businessman, he built Telecommunications Network, Inc. into a public company. Richard J. DiBlasi ’55, Greensport, Pa., April 1, 2022. Mr. DiBlasi was a Phi Kappa Theta brother andmember of the wrestling team. He served in the U.S. Navy and was president of DiBlasi Motors in Corona, N.Y., for 38 years. He earned various naval citations and was a Ford Motor Co. Dealer Award winner. Augustus M. Filbert ’55, Corning, N.Y., Feb. 24, 2022. Dr. Filbert was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He joined Corning Glass Works as a glass composition chemist. He retired as director of research and development and technical services. He helped author books on the company’s history and served on the Alfred State College of Technology Council. His children, David Filbert ’92 andMark Filbert ’94, are members of the Lehigh family. Carl W. Licini ’55, Allentown, Pa., Dec. 16, 2021. Mr. Licini was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard during the KoreanWar. He made his career with Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Robert F. Margotta ’55, Ellicott City, Md., March 13, 2022. Mr. Margotta served in the U.S. Navy for three years and the U.S. Naval Reserves for over 30. He worked as an aerospace engineer. George W. Plohr ’55, Spring Hill, Fla., Feb. 24, 2022. AKappa Sigma brother, Mr. Plohr was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He volunteered with his class in reunion planning and fundraising. He was also amember of the Tower Society. David Baillie ’56 M.S. ’60, Pont L’Abbe, France, Oct. 28, 2021. Mr. Baillie was a Kappa Sigma brother and a senior executive in the crane industry. Anthony J. Cirucci ’56, Nazareth, Pa., Feb. 28, 2022. Mr. Cirucci retired after a career with Bethlehem Steel Corporation. C. Richard Conti Jr. ’56, Gainesville, Fla., Feb. 21, 2022. Dr. Conti was Kappa Sigma brother and amember of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He served in the U.S. ArmyMedical Service and was chief of cardiology for the University of Florida. John E. Dougherty ’56, Largo, Fla., Feb. 7, 2022. Mr. Dougherty was a Phi Gamma Delta brother and amember of the track teamand Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Hemade a career as an accountant. Richard J. Haughwout ’56, Cherry Hill, N.J., March 20, 2022. Mr. Haughwout worked around the globe in the pioneering years of the plastics industry before founding K&R Plastics in 1977. Theodore P. Glueck ’56, Norwood, N.J., Feb. 21, 2022. A veteran of the U.S. Army during the VietnamWar, Mr. Glueck had a long career in commercial banking before serving as vice chairman of Meyers Parking Systems. He also founded his own turnaroundmanagement and investment banking company. Herbert C. Kammerer ’56, Blufton, S.C., Dec. 27, 2021. Mr. Kammerer spent his 35-year career with IBM. Russell B. Mallett Jr. ’56, Basking Ridge, N.J., March 3, 2022. Mr. Mallett was a founding member and president of Delta Chi. He made his career in accounting, retiring as vice president, operations controller fromTriangle Industries. He was a member of the Tower Society. His children, Russell Mallett III ’84 and JohnMallett ’86, and grandchild, Russell Mallett IV ’17, are members of the Lehigh family. Charles K. Reller ’56 M.S. ’57, McGaheysville, Va., Dec. 22, 2021. A Theta Chi brother and veteran of the U.S. Army, Rev. Reller was the pastor of churches in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia andmost recently served as medical chaplain at Arlington Treatment Center Richard A. Valentine ’56, Charlestown, R.I., March 17, 2022. Mr. Valentine was a Kappa Alpha brother. Harry G. Wood Jr. ’56, Aiken, S.C., Feb. 4, 2022. Mr. Wood was amember of theMarching 97 and concert band. He retired as the president of textile sales forWood Textile Corp. James R. Keith ’57, Fairfax, Va., March 22, 2022. Mr. Rust was amember of theMarching 97 and a Theta Chi brother. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Hemade his career with the DowChemical Company, including serving as the chair of the Chemical Manufacturing Association and its successor, the American Chemistry Council. C. Keith Rust ’57, Bethlehem, Pa.,March 25, 2022. APhi GammaDelta brother andmember of the football team,Mr. Rust served in theU.S. Army. Hewas president and owner of Roland& Roland for over 40 years. Hewas a very active alumnus, serving as a pastmember of the Lehigh University Board of Trustees and past president of the Alumni Association andwas activewith the LehighUniversity Athletic Partnership and the football program. Hewas a fxtures at Lehigh home football games, tailgating at the Rust Family Football Pavilion. For his dedication to the university, hewon the Alumni Award in 1987. His children,Wayne Rust ’82 andCraig Rust ’89, aremembers of the Lehigh family. Richard S. Smith Jr. ’57, Pelican Bay, Fla., March 2, 2022. Mr. Smith was a Theta Delta Chi brother, as well as amember of the cross country, track and golf teams. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as president and CEO of the family business, RigidizedMetals, and was chairman of the board at the time of his passing. Stephen J. Urban ’57 M.S. ’59, Huntingdon Valley, Pa., Dec. 16, 2021. Mr. Urban was a Tau Beta Pi honor societymember and sang with the Glee Club. He worked in telecommunications for 45 years, co-chaired international meetings for establishing fax standards and authored a book on the topic. John E. Alspach ’58, Naples, Fla., Jan. 14, 2022. Mr. Alspach worked as a process engineer for Fluor Daniel Corp. Samuel D. Constan ’58, Peconic, N.Y., Dec. 12, 2021.
