Clarke Applegate ’44, Holland Township, N.J., Oct. 27, 2021. Mr. Applegate was a Phi Kappa Alpha brother and veteran of the Pacific Theater during WorldWar II. He worked for Riegel Paper Corp., for 50 years, before starting his own company, Applegate Engineering. Carson F. Diefenderfer ’44 M.S. ’54, Bethlehem, Pa., Dec. 23, 2021. Mr. Diefenderfer was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WorldWar II. His unit helped liberate Ohrdruf concentration camp, the first such camp liberated by American forces, opening the eyes of theWest to Nazi atrocities. He also served in Korea. Hemade his career with BethlehemSteel, retiring as the company’s chief engineer of buildings. Amember of the 50-Game Club, Mr. Diefenderfer volunteered prodigiously for Lehigh, representing his class inmany roles, notably as correspondent for 15 years and president for 15 years before that. He was amember of the Senior Alumni Council and greeted visitors to campus in the Alumni Memorial Building. Walter E. Miller ’44, Raleigh, N.C., Oct. 1, 2021.Mr.Miller served theU.S. Army in the Pacific Theater duringWorldWar II. He worked for DuPont andCiba-GeigyCo. during his career. Robert C. Pope ’47 ’49, Quakertown, Pa., Oct. 19, 2021. Mr. Pope served in the U.S. Army Air Force duringWorldWar II. He worked for BethlehemSteel for nearly 40 years in the blast furnace division. RichardW. Davis ’48, Niskayuna, N.Y., Dec. 17, 2021.Mr. Davis interrupted his studies to serve in theU.S. Navy duringWorldWar II before returning to finish his degree. Hewas thewrestling team manager, amember of theGlee Club and a brother of Pi Kappa Alpha. Heworked as a banking executive. His Lehigh legacy includes childrenBarbaraDavis ’79 and SusanDavisHanks ’82, son-in-lawPaul Hanks ’81 and grandchildMeganHanks ’11. Morgan L. Miller ’48, Palm Beach, Fla., Aug. 17, 2021. A veteran of the U.S. Navy during WorldWar II and a Sigma Alpha Mu brother, Mr. Miller worked in the garment industry. He was the chairman of the National Spinning Co. Inc. He was amember of the Tower Society, and his grandchild, MaxMiller ’16, is a member of the Lehigh family. Howard C. Applegate ’49, Eureka, Calif., Sept. 18, 2021. Mr. Applegate worked for Librascope (later Lockheed) for more than 21 years developing weapons systems for the U.S. Navy. He would later become an author, publishing eight novels. Richard N. Franz ’49, Harrisburg, Pa., Aug. 11, 2021. Mr. Franz was a Delta Tau Delta brother. He served in the U.S. Army before starting his career as an engineer and salesperson. He retired fromStabler Industries as president of Protection Services Inc. His brother, Paul Franz ’44, was amember of the Lehigh family. Henry C. von Blohn ’49, Johnstown, Pa., Nov. 18, 2020. Mr. vonBlohnwas a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps duringWorld War II. Heworked for Bethlehem Steel for nearly 35 years and retired as the superintendent of the railroad axe division. 1950s JohnC. Deisher Jr. ’50, Pottstown, Pa., Dec. 18, 2021.Mr. Deisherwas a veteranof theU.S.Navy duringWorldWar II.Heworked for 42years at his familyfirm, RoyersfordFoundry andMachine Co., and retiredas president. RichardW. Stoeltzing ’50, Pittsburgh, Pa., Oct. 13, 2021.Mt. Stoeltzingwas amember of the concert band andMarching 97, sangwith theGleeClub, acted with theMustard&Cheese, and was a brother of Phi SigmaKappa. He spent his career withWestinghouse, where he developed and patented the proximity sensing device for elevators. Hewas a member of the Tower Society. John E. Buhl Jr. ’51M.S. ’54, Bethesda,Md., Sept. 14, 2021. APhi Kappa Alpha brother,Mr. Buhl served in theU.S. military in Korea. Heworked for theDepartment of theNavy for 35 years. In retirement, he and his wife owned a small business. His brother, Thomas Buhl, was amember of theClass of 1954. Hewas amember of the Tower Society. Stephen B. Jareckie ’51, Holden, Mass., Sept. 25, 2021. Mr. Jareckie was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean era. He worked as the curator at theWorcester Art Museum and as a consulting curator of photography at the Fitchburg Art Museum. Frederick S. Mohr ’51, Exeter Township, Pa., Oct. 25, 2021. Mr. Mohr was a Delta Phi brother and amember of the wrestling team. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and worked as a salesman and as an advertising representative. Stafford R. Gellatly ’52, Jupiter, Fla., June 28, 2020. Mr. Gellatly owned and operated the Gellatly Construction Company in Connecticut. AlanW. Koppes ’52 ’53, Carmichael, Calif., Nov. 17, 2021. Mr. Koppes was an Alpha Sigma Phi brother. He was amember of Tau Beta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies. He also was amember of the Epitome, Arcadia and the Mustard &Cheese. He spent his career with Procter &Gamble. In his retirement, he worked for a California startup called Information for Public Affairs. He was amember of the Asa Packer and Tower societies. JohnM. Wright ’52, Wilmington, Del., Sept. 14, 2021. Mr. Wright was a Theta Xi brother. He served in intelligence for the U.S. Army. He worked as a chemical engineer for Delaware City Refinery his entire career. WilliamD. Allen ’53, Bridgeport, Conn., Aug. 23, 2021. Mr. Allen was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as an attorney for many years. Floyd Krengel ’53, Tinton Falls, N.J., Oct. 10, 2021. A Tau Delta Phi brother, Dr. Krengel was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He practiced familymedicine, led departments in the Jersey ShoreMedical Center, and taught at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ-NJ School of OsteopathicMedicine. Stephen D. MacFarlan III ’53, Mundelein, Ill., Oct. 28, 2021. Mr. MacFarlan was amember of the lacrosse and wrestling teams, as well as a Phi Gamma Delta brother. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
