He has been working as an application developer for AEGIS Insurance, where he helped create a health screening app to assist employees to return to the office. Alex will be working as a web security intern at VMware this summer. He plans to work in cybersecurity after graduation. JESSICA FRANOLIC is pursuing a dual degree in mechanical engineering and finance with a minor in energy in the Integrated Business and Engineering Honors Program. At Lehigh, she is involved with clarinet choir and outing club and is the off-campus outreach chair in the Society of Women Engineers. She is involved as a Rossin Junior Fellow and as a head teaching assistant for an undergraduate course in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. She interned at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and at St. James’s Place Wealth Management in London through the Iacocca International Internship Program. In 2021, she will intern at Air Products as a mechanical engineer. Jessica plans to pursue a career as a mechanical engineer in renewable energy. CLARE FONSTEINis a junior pursuing a degree in journalism and international relations. At Lehigh, she is a reporter and deputy news editor with the student newspaper, The Brown and White. She also is a member of the investigative reporting team, which tackles more research-based, long-term articles. Last summer, she participated in Lehigh’s Data for Impact fellowship program and was able to work on a project collecting data on elections in Ireland. She also worked as a marketing intern for a small business in the San Francisco Bay Area. This summer, Clare will be working as an intern for the Lehigh Valley newspaper, The Morning Call. Clare plans to continue with journalism after graduation. GRIFFIN FOX is pursuing a double major in philosophy and history. His research interests include metaphysics, political and social philosophy, and theology, with a particular focus on Christian existentialism. For two years, Griffin has been a Global Social Impact Fellow, working to create short, educational videos about the maternal mortality crisis in Sierra Leone, with the goal of better informing women of practices that lead to healthy pregnancy and delivery. At Lehigh, Griffin is the president of Spectrum, Lehigh’s student-run LGBTQIA+ organization, and works as a student coordinator in the Community Service Office, where he co-runs the blood drive. After graduation, Griffin plans to attend seminary and ultimately hopes to become an Episcopal priest. MELISSA HERTZBERG is pursuing a degree in finance on the economics track with minors in earth and environmental science and in entrepreneurship. Melissa is the president of the club field hockey team, works as a volunteer notetaker, and is the director of philanthropy for Zeta Tau Alpha. Melissa was selected for and participated in Lehigh Silicon Valley, an entrepreneurial immersion program run by the Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation. This summer, Melissa will be interning with Bank of America as an advisor development summer analyst. Her career aspirations include working with people to help them succeed through financial advising and wealth management. She is passionate about the environment, sustainability, and moving forward toward a greener future. MICHAEL NARDELLI is pursuing a major in chemical engineering with a concentration in energy and the environment. He currently is part of a research group looking to create a vertical axis wind turbine that could produce enough energy to charge a cell phone. This summer he is interning at PPL Electric Utilities. Outside of academics, he is a member of Lehigh’s varsity track and field team. Knowing the struggles of the transition from high school to college, he joined the mentor collective and became a student athlete mentor to help first year students. Michael plans to continue his studies in chemical engineering at graduate school and then enter the field of renewable energy. THOMAS PERILLO is pursuing a degree through the Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts and Sciences (IDEAS) program, with concentrations in bioengineering and health economics. Tom is involved with Lehigh’s emergency medical services serving as administrative lieutenant, where he is responsible for managing EMS call shifts for the 24/7 quick response service as well as overseeing organization staffing for the on-campus COVID-19 testing center. He currently is enrolled as a Global Social Impact Fellow, where he and his team are designing a low-cost test strip to be used as a screening device for diagnosing sickle cell anemia in low- to middle-income countries. He also has conducted research through the Research Scholar Program at the Lehigh Valley Health Network. Tom plans to pursue a career in medicine. ADRIAN THOMAS DE VERA SUAREZ is an Eckardt Scholar, pursuing a degree in theatre with a minor in global studies and a certificate in global citizenship. He has won the Williams and Amaranth prizes for his creative and critical writing. He is an actor in Lehigh’s Department of Theatre and is an active member of the Iacocca Global Village for Future Leaders. Adrian has served as a UN youth representative for the Unitarian Universalist Association at the UN headquarters in New York; a public health intern in Kisumu County, Kenya; a consultant for organic farming in Germany; a data analyst for the arts and culture sector in the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania; a Global Citizenship Program student in New Delhi, India; and a sustainability researcher in his hometown of Manila, Philippines. He plans to pursue a career in comedy, media, and entertainment. HELEN TYNES is pursuing a dual degree in mechanical engineering and economics in the Integrated Business and Engineering Honors Program. At Lehigh, she is the president of the beekeeping club, an admissions tour guide, a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society, and a 2021 recipient of the Bond Memorial Prize. She interned for CHONEX, a startup in Birmingham, Alabama, working on nutrient recycling to make agriculture and animal production more sustainable. In 2021, she will intern for Boeing as an electro-physics engineer. She plans to pursue a career in developing sustainable technologies or green energy.
