E V E N T S & E X H I B I T I O N S We celebrated NATIONAL POETRY MONTH Poets for Justice Poetry Slam Artists from the local community performed works related to racial and social justice to a live audience at SteelStacks Levitt Pavilion as well as livestreamed. A Reading and Conversation with poet Lauren K. Alleyne James Madison University Professor Lauren K. Alleyne read from her latest poetry collection, Honeyfish, and spoke about her experiences as Assistant Director of the JMU’s Furious Flower Poetry Center, the nation’s first academic center for Black poetry. Sponsored by the Friends of the Lehigh Libraries. Poem in Your Pocket Day A yearly tradition of the Academy of American Poets, Poem in Your Pocket Day is a day when poetry is exchanged widely and joyfully. Observed this year on April 29, we invited the Lehigh community to post their favorite poems on social media throughout the day. OverDrive Collection We created a new Poetry Month OverDrive Collection, a diverse selection of titles by poets including Danez Smith, Claudia Rankine, Ocean Vuong, and rupi kaur, among many others.
