Alumni Bulletin Spring 24

CLASS NOTES | SPRING 2024 | 59 Leslie (Orysh) Connor ’78, Jocelyn (Ochs) Hughes ’78 and John Hughes, Larry Johnson ’78, Robert Haimowitz ’78, Jodi (Smith) Capps ’79, John Connolly ’79, Beth (Schratz) Hyder, Joe Burke and his wife, Kathy, BeaKay (Pisano) Stryker, Spence Reid, Ellen Iobst ’81, Barb Engel Tomalonis ’81, Dave Pietruszynski ’81, Tim Shea ’81 and Sara Haimowitz ’81. Mary and George also attended the November Lehigh vs. UNC Chapel Hill men’s basketball game. While pregaming at the iconic Top of the Hill Restaurant adjacent to the university campus, she spotted two other diners sporting Lehigh gear. She introduced herself, noting that she was Class of ’80. To her surprise, Craig Madsen and Mark Hembarsky replied, “So are we!” Mary and George are now retired and live in Wilmington, N.C. Craig and his wife, Corrine, have been in Cary, N.C., since 1991. A couple of years ago, Craig connected with his old Dravo roomie, Cliff Martin, at a Lehigh wrestling match, the only time they have seen each other since graduation! Mike Connor happily notes that on the Friday before the Lehigh-Lafayette game, there was a small gathering with Rick Rogers, Dave Beard, Ray Trevisan, Finn Wentworth, Jeff Eggert and Mike, as well as Lee Ann Lusardi Connor ’79, Ken Colangelo ’79, Matt McDonough ’82 and a bunch of innocent bystanders. Mike was not forthcoming with what the bystanders witnessed! Frank Scattene attended his 45th Lehigh-Lafayette game this year (the last 35 of them in the press box) and has his eye on joining the 50 game club! After working 20 years as tax director for Computer Aid Inc., he is now working part time as a project manager for Jeras Corporation in Allentown. He also golfs with his wife, Roseann Corsi, who retired two years ago after many years in Lehigh Athletics, working as public relations director, intramurals, assistant volleyball coach, creating the C.O.A.C.H. and Adopt-A-Family programs and substantially increasing the fundraising levels in the Athletics Partnership for women’s basketball, volleyball, softball and lacrosse. Our thanks to Frank and Roseann for their many years of service to Lehigh. ’81Tom Wocklish, twocklish@alum. lehigh.edu ’82 John P. Belardo, 152 Berkeley Circle, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. On Facebook, like “Lehigh University Class of 1982.” Having recently acquired a condo on Crescent Beach in St. Augustine, Fla., my inquiry as to whether classmates lived there permanently or partially revealed the following Floridians. Michele (Mildenberger) Ruth has lived in Stuart since 2002. Michelle surfs over 200 days a year. She and her husband work remotely. Michelle has owned her own hydrogeology consulting business since 1989, cleaning up Superfund and other hazardous waste sites. Since captaining lacrosse at Lehigh, Michelle has coached high school lacrosse and even coached the New Zealand 2017 World Cup team—making connections worldwide. Also, Michelle founded a private college recruiting and consulting business. Check out barefootrecruiting.com. Michelle also does extensive trekking and open-ocean swimming, which is fitting since she was also on Lehigh’s swimming, water polo, soccer and ultimate Frisbee teams. Laurence Reisman has lived in Vero Beach since 1985 and is in the newspaper business, presently with the Gannett/USA Today paper there, Treasure Coast Palm newspapers. Larry’s youngest son is in graduate school, so he will “be working a while longer.” Caroline Pomeroy has resided in Indialantic since spring of 2022. She still likes to ski during the winter months. She has now retired as the chief sales officer from One Medical Passport after a career of 30 years in high tech sales in Boston and Silicon Valley. Thomas Reeves and his wife, Erika, winter in Port St. Lucie at PGA Village. Tom spent 35 years with IBM in its semiconductor technology and intellectual property organizations, retiring as a vice president. These days, they own (and some of their seven children operate) the largest gymnastics facility in Vermont. Tom states that multi-billion-dollar IBM hardware P/L or multi-million-dollar small business P/L really are very similar to manage. The Reeves also own two Vermont homes in Essex and Concord near the New Hampshire border. They each have Harley Davidson motorcycles in Florida and Vermont. I ride an electric bike. Does that count, Tom? Ann (Dragoumis) Murtlow and her husband just established residency in Florida, although they have owned a place in Naples for several years. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary this year. Ann has had an incredible career. Starting as a design engineer with Bechtel Power Corporation and onto several president, CEO and director positions with major corporations and nonprofits, including as a member of the board of directors of Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Great Plains Energy, Inc., First Internet Bank, United Way of Central Indiana, AM Consulting, Mind Trust, Wabash National and Energy. Ann was too modest to tell me this. I looked up her LinkedIn profile. Geno Curran wants to remind us that his Curran Brewing Company in Madison Township, Pa., is open May through December with free live music, craft beer and food trucks. Go to curranbrewing.com. In non-Florida news, Ken Shriber, managing director of Petroleum Equity Group, attended his first Lehigh-Lafayette game in 40 years. His youngest daughter, Chloe Shriber ’26, is a proud cheerleader. I spoke with Thomas Hammond at length about politics, which we are wont to do. No problems of the nation were solved. Tom operates a high-profile political consulting firm in Falls Church, Va. Tom’s daughter, Caitlin Hammond, an actress, recently played opposite Paul Rudd in Hulu’s series “Only Murders in the Building,” season 3, episode 2. Tom’s 22-year-old son is a Virginia Tech mechanical engineering graduate working for Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding in Newport News, Va. His 24-year-old daughter just won the mock trial team competition at the University of San Diego Law School. Lastly, his 26-year-old son is in veterinarian school at Ross University on the island of St. Kitts. Lee Martucci is now the class correspondent for the Class of ’51, along with Wes Wardell ’51. Lee states Wes is 97 years old, a pleasure to talk with, has a better memory than Lee and can tell you all about Lehigh wrestling for the last 70 years or so. Many of you will recall that John Gennusa passed away unexpectedly in 1992. Lisa Gennusa-O’Connell sends the following news: “I was just reading the latest Bulletin and wanted to say hi. I hope this holiday season is bringing you big smiles and lots of love. John’s kids are doing well. Marty ’09 is continuing to work toward a partnership at WFFA, working alongside Jason Ackerman ’09. His twin boys, Lucas and Jordan, turned 4 in October.
