21-22 LTS Annual Report

Growing Green The Campus Sustainable Impact Fellowship (CSIF) team, working on a Lehigh Mountaintop Summer Experience project called EcoRealm Environments, brought the outdoors in with a hydroponic grow system on the 5th floor south of Fairchild-Martindale Library in October. The team spent its summer working to create a prototype for “living spaces”—cubicles or partitions made up of low-maintenance hydroponic systems that house nonallergenic plants that are shown to decrease stress hormones. Greg Reihman, Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services, said "We’re always looking to enhance the study spaces in our libraries. When this group of students came to us with a great idea, we were eager to partner with them. The result is a terrific addition to FML." We re-imagined workforce space for our networking and systems staff who had adopted hybrid work schedules following a period of remote work during the pandemic. In fall 2021, we redesigned 1,250 square feet of workspace used by formerly full-time, oncampus staff into a modern and open hoteling space. Employees who worked a portion of in-office hours now have reservable space to work, complete with computers, multiple monitors, partitioning, and a conference room equipped with a wall-mounted display for teleconferencing, whiteboards for collaboration, and a common kitchenette area for workers on the go. A modern, modular space for a hybrid workforce Meditation and reflection space FML has dedicated space for meditation, prayer, and reflection for use by individuals of all religious faiths and non-religious beliefs. Relocated to the 5th floor northeast area of the FairchildMartindale Library, the space has been established as a place where all are welcome to experience peace, prayer, meditation, and reflection. The area has soft seating, materials for use in prayer and contemplation, open floor space for prayer rugs, and is conveniently located near restroom facilities. We hope this space will be beneficial to all members of the Lehigh community who study and work in the library. "With the upgraded meditation and reflection space in FML, students can use this convenient area with comfort and privacy to spiritually commune without having to leave the building," said Jesse Pearson, Director of LTS Administration and Planning. 202 1 /22 | ANNUAL REPORT | 25
