Jason Shacter Chicago, IL Business Analytics and Management [Entrepreneurship Track] Majors Why Lehigh Business? Lehigh College of Business has allowed me to explore entrepreneurship as a serious career choice. Through the entrepreneurship curriculum, I was able to take classes that leveled up my existing business ideas and ventures, equipping me with new skills that I would not have learned in a traditional classroom. I built software from scratch, built a personal brand on social media, and actually increased my business cash flow through Lehigh coursework, which I believe is quite unique. I am grateful for the Lehigh faculty and programs that embrace these passion projects and turn them into real impact. Mike Pinette Saco, ME Accounting Major, Psychology Minor Why Lehigh Business? Lehigh Silicon Valley Lehigh Silicon Valley takes you to the San Francisco Bay Area: the hub of entrepreneurship that spawns countless new enterprises with their breakthrough technologies, next-generation software, and trend-setting social media. Students meet with experts, tour spaces, and begin to learn how to apply these lessons within their own entrepreneurial journey. Startup Academy The College of Business and Lehigh West launched Startup Academy in the summer of 2018. This unique, 10-week internship program gives students the opportunity to learn about the entrepreneurial process by immersing themselves in the innovation ecosystem of San Francisco, as they experience the messy, exciting realities of a startup. In addition to the internship, students engage in a one-credit course as a cohort, enabling them to put classroom knowledge into action in real-world business environments while expanding their skill sets and professional relationships. Lehigh-Led Programs Lehigh University faculty or staff lead programs for one to ten weeks over winter and summer breaks. Many of these programs (Lehigh in Belgium, Lehigh in Ireland, Lehigh Business: Study and Intern in Milan, and the Global Immersion) include classes for Lehigh credit taught by the business school faculty, and some of these programs also offer internships. Students can participate in short-term programs starting in the winter of their first year. Tauck Scholars The Tauck Scholars Program, endowed by Arthur Tauck, ‘53, provides an opportunity for business students to participate in an international internship or other international educational experience during the summer once they have reached Junior standing. This scholarship program enables each Tauck Scholar to apply for an international internship program that best meets their interests and career goals. Iacocca International Internships This global summer internship program for Lehigh students includes international co-ops, research experiences, and internships or cohort internships. These are led by a Lehigh faculty member who matches Lehigh students with their peers from another country to work as a team on a common problem facing a multinational corporation. Real-world experience is where your education hits the ground. You’ll have the space to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and apply it through internships, research, clubs, study abroad, and leadership roles. These aren’t just additions to your resume—they’re opportunities to see the tangible impact of your work and gain a clearer sense of where you want your career to lead. As a proud 2008 alumna of the Lehigh University College of Business, I experienced firsthand what makes Lehigh special. From day one, I felt like part of a close-knit community, not just another student. Faculty quickly learned our names and built supportive mentoring relationships that continued well beyond graduation. Those connections, along with Lehigh’s rigorous academics and strong alumni network, helped many of us secure internships and successful careers. Now, as a faculty member, I’m proud to help continue that tradition. Our students benefit from hands-on learning through real-world case studies, collaborative projects, and mentorship from faculty and accomplished alumni. They also learn how to combine emerging technologies, including AI, with strong leadership and critical-thinking skills. Lehigh’s recent R1 research designation creates even more opportunities for impactful, facultymentored research. Alex Motley, Orange, New Jersey Finance Major “Through empowerment, unity, and opportunity, the Lehigh Minority Business Alliance (LMBA) strives to provide a professional community for all minority students on campus. Through this initiative, I was able to further discover my passions and contribute my time, effort, and leadership to my fellow peers. As a result, not only did I grow personally, but I was also able to see my peers grow in ways that far exceed our comfort zones. I am truly grateful for the opportunity that this club provided me and for the support I received throughout my time at Lehigh.” “Working on a diverse team added intangible value to my Lehigh experience and it allowed all of my peers to bring fresh perspectives to club events, especially ‘speed networking’ and career workshops with Fortune 500 companies.” For more information, visit businessundergrad. lehigh.edu/ student-organizations- and-leadership – Alex Motley Class of 2020 14
