He specialized in piping safety for nuclear power plants, teaching at Auburn University, then working at NASA and his own consulting firm, The Readiness Operation. Peter G. Beidler M.A. ’65 Ph.D. ’68, Seattle, Ore., April 6, 2023. Dr. Beidler taught English at Lehigh University. He authored 30 books. In 1981, he was named National Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. He was awarded the Deming Lewis Award in 2001. His wife, Anne (Gilbert) Beidler ’68G, and his children— Paul Beidler ’91, Kurt Beidler ’92, Gretchen Beidler ’93 and Nora (Beidler) Henrikson ’95—are all members of the Lehigh family. Audrey J. Gruver M.Ed. ’65, Cementon, Pa., March 19, 2023. Mr. Gruver was a reading specialist, teaching in the Allentown School District for over 40 years. Joan S. Sturtevant M.Ed. ’65, Doylestown, Pa., March 9, 2023. Ms. Sturtevant worked as a high school guidance counselor for the Centennial School District. John H. Daniels Ph.D. ’67, Bethlehem, Pa., Jan. 4, 2023. Dr. Daniels was a professor with Lehigh University’s Department of Civil Engineering for nearly 30 years, as well as operated a private forensic structural engineering consulting practice. His children, Byron Daniels ’81 and Diane Daniels ’98, are members of the Lehigh family. Philip N. Hublitz M.Ed. ’67, Allentown, Pa., April 9, 2023. Mr. Hublitz taught in the classroom for 37 years. E. Clark Riley Jr. MBA ’67, Littleton, Colo., Jan. 24, 2023. Louis P. DeLorenzo M.A. ’68, Allentown, Pa., Feb. 23, 2023. Mr. DeLorenzo had many roles in the Allentown School District, retiring as the principal of William Allen High School. Joseph H. Merkle M.S. ’68, Lavalette, N.J., April 7, 2023. Mr. Merkle was employed for over 40 years in the Bell System, starting as an engineer and retiring as a liaison in Europe, Middle East and Africa for emerging markets. Robert H. Uhl M.S. ’68, Wyomissing, Pa., Feb. 18, 2023. Mr. Uhl was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He made his 30-year career in materials research and development and production engineering. He retired from AT&T. Charles J. Ludinsky M.S. ’69, Chelmsford, Mass., Feb. 5, 2023. Mr. Ludinsky worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories and MITRE Corp. Richard F. Verhanovitz M.S. ’69 Ph.D. ’74, Center Valley, Pa., Jan. 18, 2023. Dr. Verhanovitz worked for Lockheed Martin. Don V. Christensen MBA ’71, Bountiful, Utah, Dec. 13, 2022. Mr. Christensen worked for Dixie Cup Products. He was also affiliated with Purdue University for his work in advanced statistical methods. He retired from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Vincent P. Seaman M.A. ’71, Bethlehem, Pa., Dec. 21, 2022. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Seaman retired after more than 35 years as an educator, curriculum coordinator, coach and assistant principal in the Bethlehem Area and the Saucon Valley school districts. Kenneth A. Sletvold M.A. ’72, Allentown, Pa., Jan. 20, 2023. Mr. Sletvold was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He taught physics at Emmaus High School for over 30 years. Robert I. Steckel Jr. MBA ’72, South Whitehall Township, Pa., Jan. 8, 2023. Mr. Steckel was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He made his 34-year career at Air Products and Chemicals, retiring in 1996 as manager of corporate accounting. Francis X. Kenny Ed.D. ’73, Surf City, Fla., Dec. 28, 2022. Dr. Kenny was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from his professional career as the director of pupil services for the Union County Regional High School District. Thomas B. May M.A. ’74, Salisbury Township, Pa., Jan. 20, 2023. Mr. May was employed as a history teacher at Catasauqua Middle School for more than 30 years. Robert D. Mulvin Ed.D. ’74, Harborcreek, Pa., Feb. 4, 2023. Dr. Mulvin was an educator, principal and superintendent of the Harbor Creek School District. He was also a pioneer of the drilling of natural gas and use of CNG vehicles. Samuel J. Dolgopol M.Ed. ’75, Lehighton, Pa., April 26, 2023. Dr. Dolgopol was a principal and supervisor of special classes at Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21. He also worked at Palmerton Area High School before retiring after 32 years in education, and he continued working as a behavioral psychologist through his private practice until retirement. Dennis A. Rott M.S. ’75 MBA ’80, Nazareth, Pa., Feb. 12, 2023. Mr. Rott worked for Western Electric, Bethlehem Steel, AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Agere Systems. Donald W. Snyder MBA ’76, Orefield, Pa., March 4, 2023. Mr. Snyder represented the Lehigh Valley’s 134th Legislative District through 20 years of service in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. From 2000 to 2013, he served as the president of Lehigh Carbon Community College. Louis M. Solcia M.A. ’76, Lewiston, N.Y., March 2, 2023. Father Solcia was an ordained priest of St. Paul (Barnabite). Jean F. Fiore M.Ed. ’77, Lower Nazareth Township, Pa., Jan. 30, 2023. Ms. Fiore worked her way up through the Visiting Nurses Association, retiring as chief executive officer. Thomas E. McWhorter MBA ’78, Allentown, Pa., March 27, 2023. Mr. McWhorter worked for Air Products in research and development and was the CEO of CDG Technology, consulting with various companies about gas ideas. Eric J. Vorgity MBA ’78, Shillington, Pa., Feb. 14, 2023. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Vorgity retired from Glen-Gery Corporation. William L. Burling Jr. MBA ’79, Ridgewood, N.J., March 1, 2023. Mr. Burling worked for Bowery Savings Bank; Bozell & Jacobs advertising; as a managing partner of Franklin, Blee & Burling advertising; and for William Raveis Real Estate. James M. Kasenga M.Ed. ’80, Palmer Township, Pa., Jan. 26, 2023. Mr. Kasenga retired as a guidance counselor from Delaware Valley Regional High School. Ilse (Kingsley) Stoll M.S. ’80, Bethlehem, Pa., Feb. 3, 2023. Ms. Stoll worked as a chemist, retiring from Agere. She held three patents. David A. Snyder M.S. ’81, Coopersburg, Pa., March 29, 2023. Mr. Snyder worked for Bell Labs for decades on the first compact discs and the fiber optic link. He co-founded OptronX and was a member of a team that made pioneering contributions to silicon photonics technology for fiber optics. Rosemary (O’Leary) Rutland M.S. ’83, Atlanta, Ga., Jan. 23, 2023. John B. Lojko M.S. ’88, Emmaus, Pa., Jan. 7, 2023. Mr. Lojko served in the U.S. Army. He worked on developing software and systems for business applications for companies such as IBM, Wang, Schaefer Beer and Crompton & Knowles. Nancy A. Cook M.A. ’95, Lansdale, Pa., Jan. 18, 2023. Rabindra N. Mahapatra Ph.D. ’96, St. Louis, Mo., April 11, 2023. Dr. Mahapatra worked on high-temperature crystal materials as a senior staff scientist for the United States Navy in Maryland. Gregory L. Adams M.S. ’07, Vincentown, N.J., Jan. 14, 2023. Dr. Adams was the associate director of discovery chemistry at Exscientia and was previously employed for many years as a scientist at Merck. He was also the editor-in-chief of Lean to Living, a camping periodical.
