A Phi Delta Theta brother, Mr. Kephart was the CEO of Mellon Bank Delaware following the bank merger. His son, Harrison Todd Kephart, is a member of the Class of 1992. Peter E. Kise ’63, Plano, Texas, Feb. 24, 2023. Dr. Kise briefly taught engineering at Widener University and went on to have a long career as a systems engineer at Bell Labs, Mitre Corporation and Sabre Systems. His child, Catherine Kise, is a member of the Class of 2002. Norman Leit ’63, Maplewood, N.J., March 28, 2023. Mr. Leit was a veteran of the U.S. Air National Guard of New Jersey and Air Force Reserves. He worked as a finance and securities analyst in his own firm. Calvin S. Mankowski ’63, Cranford, N.J., Dec. 31, 2022. Mr. Mankowski was the editor-in-chief of The Brown and White. He had a career spanning more than five decades in radio and print. Most recently, he finished his career with Reuters in New York City as a financial news editor. Edward G. Pringle ’63, Shelburne, Vt., Dec. 15, 2022. Mr. Pringle was a member of the track and cross-country teams, as well as the Gryphon Society. He had a 30-year management consulting career with Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC), retiring as deputy chairman. He went on to teach in the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina. Frederick W. Twichell II ’63, Washington, Miss., Feb. 24, 2023. A veteran of the U.S. military, Mr. Twichell worked as a CPA and part-owner of Code 3, where he designed the low-profile lights used on emergency vehicles today. Howard E. Virkler ’63, Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 12, 2023. A member of the Glee Club, Mr. Virkler worked in high-tech textile chemical manufacturing at The Virkler Company. He became president in 1978. Harley D. Huebner ’64, Newport News, Va., March 14, 2023. Mr. Huebner worked for Newport News Shipbuilding. Roger B. Jellenik ’64, Lugoff, S.C., March 13, 2023. Mr. Jellenik was a member of the Glee Club. He practiced law at an eponymous firm. Paul T. Teacher ’65, Greensburg, Pa., Feb. 23, 2023. Mr. Teacher served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He had a law degree. James E. Askew ’66, Sandy Springs, Ga., Feb. 12, 2023. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Askew was a player with the Mustard & Cheese and was involved with WLVR. He made his career with IBM and then worked as a financial adviser and co-founder of Guardian Capital Management. Victor J. Mergard ’66, Tucson, Ariz., Jan. 30, 2022. Walter J. Wriggins ’66 ’67, Pleasanton, Calif., Jan. 4, 2023. Mr. Wriggins was a baseball player and a brother of Phi Sigma Kappa. He started as an aircraft engineer but made a long career in the semiconductor industry. He held many roles, including CEO of Core Systems, which later became Coherent. James C. Dempsey ’67, Brookline, N.H., Feb. 19, 2023. A member of the Glee Club, Mr. Dempsey worked with BAE as an electrical engineer. James A. Schneider ’67, La Plata, Md., April 2, 2023. A Theta Xi brother, Mr. Schneider worked at NSA and several private companies until retiring from SRA Corporation. Richard B. Brugram ’68, Edwardsville, Ill., March 13, 2023. Dr. Brugam was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He taught biology and ecology at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Robert F. Maloney III ’68, Oakmont, Pa., Feb. 13, 2023. Mr. Maloney was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had a long and varied career in banking and business consulting. His sibling, Michael Maloney ’68, and child, Robert Maloney ’94, are members of the Lehigh family. Marlin D. Smith ’68, Asaph, Pa., Jan. 11, 2023. Mr. Smith practiced law in Alaska for more than 30 years. Edward S. Berretta ’69, Heppner, Ore., April 21, 2023. Dr. Berretta was a Phi Kappa Theta brother and member of Tau Beta Pi honor society. He worked for the NASA Apollo Mission before going to medical school. Gary S. Figore ’69, Tarentum, Pa., Feb. 21, 2023. Mr. Figore was a Theta Delta Chi brother and member of the basketball team. He practiced law for over 40 years in civil litigation. Thomas W. MacVaugh ’69, Lancaster, Pa., Jan. 27, 2023. A Pi Kappa Alpha brother, Mr. MacVaugh made his career in hospital and health care supply chain leadership. Gale A. Pittenger ’69, Denver, Colo., March 4, 2023. Mr. Pittenger worked at his own accounting firm. 1970s Edward Griffith II ’70, West Chester, Pa., Jan. 24, 2023. Mr. Griffith was a partner at Duane, Morris & Heckscher before becoming a judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Chester County. Frederic P. Lutcher III ’70, Lancaster, Pa., March 31, 2023. Mr. Lutcher was a CPA and managing partner and co-founder of Tandem Investment Partners. Jack R. Parker ’70, Hellertown, Pa., Dec. 21, 2022. Mr. Parker worked for the family business, Parker Excavating. He and his wife also owned and operated Town & Country Press for 50 years. Keith N. Strohl ’70, Franklin Township, Pa., Dec. 19, 2022. Mr. Strohl was an assistant superintendent of the Coke Works for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He then worked as a courier for First Northern Bank of Palmerton. Peter K. Zanger ’70, Naugatuck, Conn., April 2, 2023. Mr. Zanger was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air national guards. He was a Kappa Sigma brother and member of the Epitome. He worked for Pitney Bowes. Eugene A. Wrona ’71, Allentown, Pa., Jan. 3, 2023. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Wrona worked in records management at PP&L. Alexander Chong ’72, Pottstown, Pa., March 24, 2023. Mr. Chong worked for a number of companies as a lead hardware designer and later a manager, ultimately retiring from L3 Communications. Harry S. Chassey III ’73, Bracey, Va., March 13, 2023. Mr. Chassey was a Phi Kappa Theta brother. He worked for Pfizer and Heubach Ltd., where he retired as vice president of engineering and manufacturing. Edward W. Purdy III ’74, Doylestown, Pa., Feb. 9, 2023. Mr. Purdy was a member of the football team and an Alpha Tau Omega brother. He was a member of the Tower Society. Robert E. Surdan ’74, Roswell, Ga., Dec. 14, 2022. Mr. Surdan was a Sigma Chi brother. He made his career planning production for manufacturing and supply chains, mainly for medical devices with Ethicon/ Johnson & Johnson and Integra Lifesciences. Russel J. Wintner ’74, Pepper Pike, Ohio, Jan. 23, 2023. A Phi Sigma Kappa brother, Mr. Wintner was the owner and manager of Memphis Kiddie Park. He was a pioneer in the motion picture industry’s transition from celluloid to digital. Jeffrey E. Smith ’75, Arlington, Texas, Feb. 27, 2023. A Theta Chi brother, Mr. Smith coowned and operated Techsas, a successful water treatment business, with his wife. He also retired from Tinius Olsen, Inc. His father was Earl Smith ’49. Alan W. Smolowe ’75 MBA ’76, Clemmons, N.C., Jan. 22, 2023. Dr. Smolowe was a Theta Chi brother. He worked
