Graduate Mary Jane Capozzoli-Ingui ’85G took second place in the National League of American Pen Women’s biennial letters competition in the Evelyn B. Wofford Journalism Award category for her article “The Silent Killer,” which addresses radio frequency radiation. Yue Xiao ’15G and Junjun Liu ’15G are celebrating their third wedding anniversary this May. Yue was a master’s student in mechanical engineering when he met Junjun, a master’s student in accounting then, during a spring break trip in New York City, and the couple quickly fell in love. After their graduation in 2015, they reunited in Arizona in 2016 after a one-year remote relationship. Junjun and Yue got married in May 2020 after receiving their Ph.Ds. in accounting from Arizona State University and mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona, respectively. They both treasure their days at Lehigh, where two fates crossed and converged. Currently, Junjun is an assistant professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Yue is an R&D engineer at Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. in Lancaster, Pa. The couple resides in both Huntsville, Ala., and Lancaster, Pa. 1940s Thomas H. Golden Jr. ’43, Little Flock, Ark., Jan. 4, 2023. Dr. Golden was a Phi Gamma Delta brother, as well as a member of the football and wrestling teams. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. David C. Kirk ’44, Brevard, N.C., March 12, 2023. Dr. Kirk was a Lambda Chi Alpha brother, and member of Tau Beta Pi and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. He worked for Merck & Co., Hercules, Inc., Ecusta and retired as technical director of SCM Corp. Creighton L. Lytle ’44, Beaverton, Ore., Jan. 22, 2023. Dr. Lytle was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was employed for 21 years at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, serving as an industrial physician and later the senior medical officer. He also had a private family medical practice. His children, Nelson Lytle ’72 and Douglas Lytle ’77, are members of the Lehigh family. He was a member of the Asa Packer Society. Rodney F. Merkert ’45, Lakeland, Fla., Aug. 28, 2022. Mr. Merkert was a Sigma Phi Epsilon brother. He worked for Union-Carbide. Ernest R. Gerlach ’46, Sarasota, Fla., Jan. 1, 2023. A member of the orchestra, Mr. Gerlach interrupted his education to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in the transportation industry. Joseph A. Hardy Sr. ’46, Farmington, Pa., Jan. 7, 2023. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and a Phi Gamma Delta brother, Mr. Hardy co-founded 84 Lumber, which became the largest privately owned building materials supplier in the world. He went on to work in hospitality and real estate development, including the Nemacolin Resort. Webster Dawley ’49, Lansdale, Pa., Dec. 30, 2022. Mr. Dawley worked for Nabisco. He was a member of the Tower Society. Vincent J. Dowling ’49, Vero Beach, Fla., Feb. 27, 2023. Mr. Dowling was a Kappa Alpha brother and soccer player. He served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. He practiced law for 40 years with Cooney, Scully and Dowling, focusing on construction law with an emphasis on defense of architects and related complex litigation. Harold S. Kachline ’49, Matthews, N.C., March 7, 2023. Mr. Kachline was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a mechanical engineer for U.S. Gauge, Schick, Robertshaw and Moore Products, designing several patented products. 1950s Willard Binzen ’50, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Dec. 31, 2022. Mr. Binzen was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps and a Delta Tau Delta brother. He worked as an engineer and patented several devices for industrial dust collection. Joseph H. Groeger ’50, South Russell, Ohio, March 20, 2023. A Lambda Chi Alpha brother, Mr. Groeger served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked his way up to become president of Revere Copper and Brass and retired from North Coast Brass and Copper. He was a member of the Tower Society. Nathaniel S. Norton Jr. ’50, Freehold, N.J., April 5, 2023. Mr. Norton was a Sigma Phi brother. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard in Korea. He made his career in sales, marketing and management in the printing business. Robert H. Wheeler ’50, Greenwood, S.C., Feb. 4, 2023. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force during World War II, Mr. Wheeler worked for Parke Davis for 37 years. Richard M. Elrick ’51 M.S. ’55 Ph.D. ’63, Albuquerque, N.M., Nov. 12, 2022. Dr. Elrick worked for Sandia National Laboratories for 32 years. His wife, Mildred (Greer) Elrick, earned a graduate degree from Lehigh in 1960. Mark E. Ginder ’51, Cincinnati, Ohio, Dec. 27, 2022.
