Summer Bulletin 2023

CLASS NOTES | SUMMER 2023 | 67 well! Here are some updates about two of our classmates. After graduating, Andrea Moreau-O’Donnell earned her doctorate in clinical psychology and went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology. She now lives outside Indianapolis, Ind., with her husband, 6-year-old daughter and newborn daughter, who was born in June. After working for 12 years in hospitals and nonprofit clinics, she recently opened her own pediatric neuropsychology practice. Hayley Teich is currently living just outside of Ann Arbor, Mich. She received her doctorate degree from Tufts University and is currently a pediatrician in a busy practice. Hayley is married and has three delightful and energetic children (ages 7, 5 and 1.) When not taking care of her own children or someone else’s, she enjoys running (having completed several half-marathons) and singing. I would love for you to reach out and share what’s happening in your part of the world! Contact me at LCarino@att.net or on Facebook at Laura Schwamb Carino. Our classmates and I can’t wait to hear what you’re up to! ’03 Jessica DeSantis-Berg, jessicadesantisberg@yahoo.com Hi, everyone! I’m your new class correspondent, taking over the reins from Safiya (Jafari) Simmons. I am looking forward to sharing stories from across our class since we have all experienced a great deal over the past 20 years. (At the same time, doesn’t that hot, sunny day in May feel like just a few years ago?) My brief story is this: I started my career with short stints in college admissions at institutions in New Jersey and Maryland. Then, and for most of the past 20 years, I worked for our alma mater as an undergraduate admissions counselor. Recruiting high school students may have kept me feeling young, but reality catches up quickly whenever I visit with those former teenagers who are now fellow alumni. Along the way, I married Jon Berg and earned my master’s from Lehigh. We live in Allentown with our son who is in first grade. Jon is a process engineer with Air Products, while I’m working part time remotely for a college access organization in Colorado. I support their information systems and help to provide revenue through college consulting services. So, what have you been doing? Contact me at jessicadesantisberg@yahoo.com with your stories! ’04 Lloyd Henderson, lloydjr04@gmail.com ’05 Jessi (Schimmel) McMullan, jessi.mcmullan@alum.lehigh.edu Anthony Brichta started with our class, finished early, took a grad year and still graduated with us. So, ’04 ’05G, but we’re very proud to call him one of ours. Anthony practices law at Norris McLaughlin, P.A. in Allentown, Pa., focusing on liquor law, business transactions and real estate. In addition, Anthony operates a craft distillery, County Seat Spirits, which makes from-scratch spirits including bourbons, gin, vodkas and rums. The distillery expanded to Easton, Pa., with a cocktail bar and tasting room. ’06Zach Baron was promoted to associate principal at general contracting and construction management firm INTECH Construction. He has worked there since 2006 when he joined the LOOP program for recent graduates. According to the press release: “Over 17 years at INTECH, Baron has led challenging projects including the National Museum of American Jewish History and the University of Pennsylvania New College Houses East and West. “‘To be rewarded for commitment and passion means a lot to me,’ Baron said. ‘I look forward to helping grow the business and carry it forward for the next generation.’” Editor’s note: We are excited to welcome Kevin Frost to the role of correspondent. He can be reached at kpfrosty@ gmail.com. His first column will appear in the next issue. ’07 Brian Roth, lehighclassof2007 @gmail.com Carolyn Sterling ’10 and Michael Collins welcomed their third daughter, Eliza, in March. Big sisters Maisie and Charlotte are beyond excited. ’08 Olivier Lewis, olivier.lewis@alum. lehigh.edu This summer, the Class of 2008 has much good news to share, especially the wonderful news of births. Megan Hess Haley and Jonathan Haley ’09 announce the birth of Daisy Nolan Haley in August 2022. Finn, born in March 2021, loves being a big brother. Joseph Sidney “Jay” Wilcox III was also born in August 2022, joining his mother Katy (Jacobson) Wilcox. Just over a year ago, Carly (Bradley) Gigl, her husband, Colin Gigl, and their two daughters, Alice (6) and Caroline (3), welcomed Abigail to the world. Carly is coordinator of hiring at the Empowerment Academy. In 2021, Deborah Ou-Yang’s son, Jordan, was born. And in July 2021, Alexandra (Fehring) Schickli, her husband, Eric, and their son Ansel (4) were joined by Ezra. Alexandra is marketing director at Nehemiah. We also have some good news on the professional side. Congratulations to Calvin John Smiley, Ph.D., whose new book, “Purgatory Citizenship: Reentry, Race and Abolition,” was published by the University of California Press. Hats off to Calvin for covering a very interesting topic with a prestigious publisher. Felicitations are also due to Clay Talley, who was included in the 2023 edition of the Best Lawyers: ones to watch in America for banking and finance law. In 2021, Clay started working at Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft as an associate in the finance group, currently at the Charlotte, N.C., office. Finally, I should mention that I left my lecturer position at King’s College London for a similar teaching position at the Rabdan Academy in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Many travelers stop by Emirates on their way to Europe, Asia and Africa. So let me know if you ever have a layover, and we can chat over coffee and palm tree dates. ’09 Bobby Buckheit, lehighclass2009@ gmail.com Going to jump straight into updates, as I am very behind on this submission and trying to not miss a deadline. Flashback to cramming for 4 o’clocks and final papers—and not in a good way. Ashley Weiss Schiff and her husband, Adam, welcomed baby boy No. 2, Xander Hudson, to the family on March 12, 2023. She reports that “Xander’s big brother Ryder is SO excited for his early birthday present; he couldn’t wait for his little bro to arrive.” Gwen Purdom and her husband, Tim, welcomed their second child in early March 2023. Their daughter’s name is Eberle Candace Ottolin, and she joins big brother Wilder, who is 4. Ted Boyer’s family just welcomed their second baby boy, Jamison, on Feb. 16, 2023. Ted reports that he is still living in Vermont and working as a neurologist. Patrick Cucci and Nicole (Montegary) Cucci ’07 welcomed their son, Cillian John Cucci, on Oct. 4, 2022. As not-
