56 | LEHIGH ALUMNI BULLETIN | CLASS NOTES served as interim executive director for Delta Conveyance Design & Construction Authority. She was general manager of Zone 7 Water Agency for more than a decade. Before she joined Zone 7 in 2005, she was general manager and chief engineer for the Scotts Valley Water District. She has also worked as an attorney at Wendel, Rosen, Black and Dean and as an engineer and production manager for the Alameda County Water District.” After graduating, Jill earned a master’s in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a J.D. in public interest law from Santa Clara University. She is the mother of three grown children, is an active Rotarian and has six grandchildren. Emily Winn-Deen holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. “She is president of Rx Dx Advisors, a diagnostics and life sciences consulting company, where she focuses on assisting clients with bringing cutting-edge molecular diagnostics to market. She is also senior vice president, diagnostics, for Mercy BioAnalytics, a start-up company working to develop blood-based tests for the early detection of cancer.” She is an inventor on 38 issued and eight pending U.S. patents. Eric also wrote to draw our attention to the obituary of Professor Richard Aronson. “He was the winner of a faculty/ teaching award from our class,” Eric pointed out. I never had Professor Aronson—my biggest influence in the business school was Brian Brockway—but I know he was a favorite of many students during his 50 years on the economics faculty. If anyone has a fun reminiscence to share, I’ll use it in a future column. ’75 Thom Hirsch, 139 McHenny Court, Chester, MD 21619, ThomasHirsch44@Outlook.com By the end of our sophomore year, 50 years ago, America’s involvement in the war in Vietnam was winding down and the investigation into the Watergate scandal was heating up. In September 1973, Billy Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs in the “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match. Early in the start of our junior year, Vice President Spiro Agnew pleaded “nolo contendere” to tax evasion and resigned and the New York Mets almost won the World Series. Popular songs in 1973 included “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree” by Tony Orlando and Dawn and “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John. These references to 50 years ago are intended to remind everyone of our 50th class reunion, to be held on June 12-15, 2025. Our class presidents, Mardi Blacher-Reich and Jeff Sherman, are heading up the effort to make this reunion our best reunion yet. So, mark your calendars! I checked in with Sybil Stershic who recently celebrated 35 years in her own business in quality service marketing, helping companies strengthen workplace engagement with internal marketing. Sybil relayed that, believe it or not, for the past several years, her work has involved playing with LEGO® bricks. She has become a certified facilitator of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® that she uses for team building and believes is a powerful and fun experience, adding that she enjoys it as much as her clients. Sybil and her husband, Michael ’74, reside in the Lehigh Valley and are happy their son, a podcast producer and writer, chose to live in the area as well. Michael is fully retired from a long career in community and economic development, and Sybil plans to retire within the year. They stay active by serving on community boards, visiting New York’s Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley regions and staying in touch with Lehigh friends near and far. One of their favorite traditions since their children were young has been spending Thanksgiving with classmates Velma (Gebhard) Conway and Richard Conway ’74. The couples alternate hosting the turkey meal. Sybil and Velma reportedly have custom aprons that read “It’s My Turn to Wrestle the Turkey.” Sybil and Mike also make a point to get together with another classmate, Ann Schmoyer Story, and husband Steve whenever they visit the Lehigh Valley. Speaking of wrestling, I checked in with my freshman hallmate (Richards 2A) Terry DeStito. Terry reports that he is retired from Lowe’s Home Improvement, for whom he trained employee staff in locations in multiple states. Despite being retired, Terry reports that he still flips a house now and then. Terry lives near Harrisburg and travels to Walnut, Miss., and Memphis to be with six of his 11 grandchildren. Terry visits his four other grandchildren in Pittsburgh and one in Emmaus. He recently was blessed with a great-granddaughter! Terry reports that he had great fun attending this season’s NCAA Wrestling Championships in Tulsa and compliments Josh Humphries ’23, who placed third at 157 pounds. Terry saw some Lehigh people at the NCAAs but no one from our class. He occasionally speaks with former teammates Tom Hutchinson ’71, Herbie Campbell ’72 and Tom Sculley ’74 and our much-beloved coach, Thad Turner ’61. Terry enjoys hanging out in his hometown of Enola, Pa., not far from Harrisburg, and seeing his high school friends. In addition to his travels to be with his grandchildren and great-grandchild, Terry recently went on a cruise to the Bahamas and a trip to Chicago. Don’t forget to “Like” our Class Facebook page run by Jeff Sherman to keep up to date on information about our class and Lehigh. It can be found at facebook.com/lehighseventyfive?fref=ts. Send me information about yourself and what you have done since you graduated from Lehigh, including those of our class you have stayed in touch with. Your classmates want to hear about you. ’76 Mark E. Goehring, 10 Princeton Drive, Shamong, NJ 08088. The ’79ers in attendance were Steve Carpenter, Bob Rentler and, of course, Jim Schwanda (enjoying the buy four, get one free offer for the last time). Jim also shared a link to photos on the KA Alumni website (ka-lehigh. org/archive/the-last-greekerrun). After lunch, the brothers played a spirited game of Frisbee at the location of the old Lodge. Ed McGlynn contacted me for help reconnecting with ATO brothers Chuck Dippo, Tom Kulp and Dave Snyder. Ed notes that at Lehigh, they were all good friends, except when they caught Ed stealing their
