CLASS NOTES | SUMMER 2023 | 45 ’51 Dick Allen 15010 Shell Point Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33908. (239) 243-0969 (H); dickelise2@ gmail.com Hank Bauer sent a note saying, “Hello, Dick. I am going to be 94 in April and still walking on my own two feet, even though it is getting a little harder these days. I am still volunteering at a little private school and lending them my expertise on construction and maintenance issues. My eyesight is probably my biggest worry, and the day may come where I will not be able to drive anymore. Such is life. Editor’s note: Our many thanks to Dick Allen for his service as class correspondent over the last seven years. He has filled this space with updates on a diversity of classmates, as well as memories of college days. We will miss his creativity and dedication to his class. Lehigh was honored to award him the Alumni Award in 2021. As he announced his retirement from this role, he sends his “thanks to all my classmates who have contributed to the column.” ’52 Bill Erdman, (407) 644-0391; 1171 Willa Vista Trail, Maitland, Fla., 32751 wce96@seeoursite.org; seeoursite.org/lehigh In March, Bob Arndt wrote: “Last August, I moved into a retirement facility (finally) here in suburban Philly, in Audubon, Pa. It is called Shannondell ... a very big place with 10 buildings and 1,300 residents. There are endless activities, pretty good food and touring entertainment groups coming through in the evenings. About the same time, Bob Hoyt also moved into a retirement place in Newtown Square, 20 miles away. I was surprised when Burt Sutker ’55 (also a resident here) contacted Lehigh to get a list of all Lehigh grads presently living at Shannondell. Turns out there are eight of us (classes of ’52 to ’91). We had a grand dinner here on Feb. 1, 2023, complete with a picture of us, which we sent on to the Alumni Bulletin. Jessi McMullan ’05, of the Alumni Office, reports it was printed in the spring issue of the Bulletin. “I had another surprise when I attended the Lehigh- Dispatch Welcome to Dispatch, where you can find out what your fellow alums are up to. Thanks to our dedicated correspondents for the work you do to keep our extended Lehigh community together. Please send class notes to your class correspondent, or, if unsure of the class to which the news applies, send to classnotes@lehigh.edu.
