Mike and wife Rose reside in Horsham, Pa., and enjoy the Delaware Beaches throughout the year. Andrea Grossman shared that she has joined the ranks of the retired. Her most recent career was as a change enablement manager, consulting on business transformation efforts. Andrea has moved out to East Hampton but still maintains an apartment in the city in order to visit her three grown and married children as well as three grandchildren, with two more on the way. In her spare time, she plays a lot of pickleball and Mahjong and enjoys walks with her Husky. Hopes to do more traveling in the future. This is my final Alumni Bulletin column submission. Mike Sheehan writes: “Longtime reader … first-time contributor. “In early February, I was able to catch up with a bunch of Chi Psi brothers at Blackjack Mulligan’s in Hawthorne, N.J. When I entered the bar and was greeted with robust ‘O’Hagan’ chants from the regulars, I realized that this was not some random bar. Apparently, the family legacy lives on at this establishment. It was a great afternoon catching up with Ken Allwood, Joe Bradshaw, Paul Camuti, Ron Carr, Pete Marquardt, Mike Kaufmann, Jeff Konigsberg, Mike O’Hagan ’89 and Gregg Van Orden. Lots of stories, drinks and hugs were shared by all. I was reminded that true friends are always there to support.” Lucia Mascolo Diana recently spent two weeks in Milan with Lehigh real estate students, guiding them through site tours, providing real-time industry insight and mentoring them throughout the experience. Lucia shared: “The experience exceeded expectations. Students toured projects by Generali Real Estate, Hines Italy and Lendlease, with presentations from Savills Italy, Dils and WeWork. They explored new developments, redevelopments, brownfields, greenfields, historical preservation and an innovation center across commercial, residential, mixed-use, hotel and serviced office assets—learning firsthand about development challenges in Milan and real estate development in Italy. “Beyond Milan, we traveled to Bellagio on Lake Como, Lake Lugano, Venice and Florence, and even attended an Inter Milan vs. Lecce match. “The students were exceptional—engaged, thoughtful and curious—and left with a deeper understanding that ‘real estate is real ….’ Walking sites offers a perspective no desktop exercise can replicate.” Lucia, what an amazing experience! Thanks for mentoring the real estate students! Karen Koch writes: “Heartbroken to share the passing of Allysa Scott Gatti, who lost her 16-month battle with cancer on March 2. “Allysa was nonstop energy both at Lehigh, and every day since! She majored in journalism and marketing. She was the editor of our Epitome yearbook, a founding member of Delta Gamma and always involved and busy with life on campus. “Allysa, Jennifer (Peoples) Stegers (Allysa’s roommate all four years), Susann (Islami) Donohue, Debbie Harmon and I met on our first day at Lehigh. August 24, 1979. Inseparable for 47 years. “We were girls together; we became women together. “We always cherished our time together. Annual events of beach weekends at my shore house, holiday parties and football games. As well as other gatherings, concerts, weddings, etc., as they popped up! “About 12 years ago during a night of copious imbibing at the shore, I had created several Facebook posts while we were out and (oops!) in every post I misspelled ‘girls’ as ‘girks.’ Hence, a name was born; since then, we forever called each other ‘The Girks.’ Nothing will feel the same with an absent Girk. “Allysa’s family meant the world to her. Heartfelt condolences to her father, Bill, her husband, Mike, her three children, Chris, Catherine and Connor, her sister, Sharon, her brother, Craig, nieces, nephews, extended family and all her friends. “Lysie, we will forever miss your smile, your wit, your kindness, your laughter, your charisma, your bubbles and your shakin’ it on the dance floor. “Rest in peace, and dance with the angels, my beautiful friend.” Enjoy your summer and fall and keep sending me updates. Alas, it is not my prerogative, and no such imprimatur would be forthcoming, so it is away with the thesaurus and on to the news. Oh, but congratulations and good wishes to the men and women, the coaches, support staff and parents! You have made memories of a lifetime, and you have made Lehigh proud! Lehigh sent an item about one of our class’s legal professionals: “Saxton & Stump extended its Pennsylvania footprint into the Lehigh Valley with the opening of a new Allentown office. The professionals of Design IP, a highly regarded intellectual property boutique law firm with a global client base, joined Saxton & Stump. The addition includes senior counsel, Michael Berkowitz, who guides domestic and international clients through the full intellectual property lifecycle, with a focus on protecting innovation, managing risk and creating longterm enterprise value. He earned his law degree from Widener University School of Law and his industrial engineering degree from Lehigh University.” My freshman roommate, Benjamin Blinder, has been reading the column, took pity on me and submitted his news: “I am still working as COO for Gattefossé USA, an affiliate of the French company Gattefossé, producers of specialty pharmaceutical excipients and specialty personal care actives and oleochemicals. I am one of only 11 affiliate directors in the Gattefossé Group worldwide; I do get to travel to headquarters in Lyon several times a year and recently joined the organization ONLYLYON as an ‘ambassadeur’ in the New York area. Apart from work, I sit on two boards—I am the president of the Verona Public Library Board of Trustees, and I am a member of the Board of Trustees for ArtPride New Jersey, an organization that ‘advances, promotes and advocates for the arts as essential to the quality of life of every citizen and to the economic vitality of our state.’ And of course, still playing trumpet whenever I get the chance, mostly with the Montclair Community Band.” From the first time I met Ben, I knew he was a leader. He had all the qualities—ambition, diligence, patience and kindness—which have served him well in his career. He is an all-around great person, a great son of Lehigh.
