Stabler Report 2023

Favorite Lehigh tradition I’m unsure if this counts as a tradition, but I enjoy going to the Bethlehem Farmers’ Market in Farrington Square; it has a cozy feel to it. Hometown: Harrison, NY College: College of Arts and Sciences Major: Undeclared Why did you choose Lehigh? Lehigh made me feel comfortable about going to college without being sure of what area of study to pursue, let alone a major. I felt encouraged to explore all my interests by my adviser, and I have never once felt shunned by faculty, staff, or the student body for admitting that I am undeclared. Now, after my first year, I have a bit more clarity as to what careers I feel I could pursue after college. I also appreciate Lehigh’s attempt to diversify its student body and the events they host for us, like the casual events at Lamberton Hall or huge campus-wide events like the International Bazaar. What is your favorite class or subject? Psychology and anthropology courses were my favorite classes this past year. I have always found psychology interesting and considered pursuing a career in psychology due to my experience with therapists and psychologists who have fundamentally shaped my view on life. Anthropology started as a class I took to fulfill a distribution requirement, but it turned out to bear some similarities to psychology in that I learned why humans are the way we are from a biological approach. Professor Michael Gill and Professor Allison Mickel were enthusiastic about their respective areas of expertise. Professor Gill was always excited to share his research on the psychology of blame, and Professor Mickel designed creative in-class activities. Interests outside the classroom: I enjoy learning new recipes for meals/desserts and drinks, learning languages, and crocheting! Currently, I am fixated on learning new matcha latte recipes, practicing Italian, learning Russian and Japanese, and crocheting a plush doll. A message from Britney: If financial aid did not exist, I would have never even entertained the idea of going to college. My whole life, it was always assumed by those around me that I would go to college, and they have always supported me and prepared me for this end goal. I have always enjoyed learning and applied myself from a young age because I knew it would all eventually lead to a college education, which is a necessity for the current world we live in (in my opinion). However, without your generous help, it would all have been fruitless. I humbly thank you for working toward removing barriers for many others like myself and encouraging more equitable access to education for all. BRITNEY VENEGAS
