Stabler Report 2023

Favorite Lehigh tradition I enjoyed my first Le-Laf at Lehigh. It’s a huge rivalry, but it’s also something that invites camaraderie. Hometown: Mechanicsburg, PA College: College of Arts and Sciences Major: Psychology Why did you choose Lehigh? When I started my college application process, I chose to apply to Lehigh because I had heard about the scholarship and financial aid awarded to prospective students. However, as decisions from colleges came in, and I could better understand the weight of my decision, I felt myself more drawn to Lehigh. I ultimately decided on Lehigh for the opportunity to study my desired major, as well as the beautiful campus and its rich history. I’ve found now that I really enjoy the old architecture, notably the Linderman Library. What is your favorite class or subject? I’ve enjoyed several of my classes and found many others interesting, although my absolute favorite of the past year was Jewish Heretics with Professor Hartley Lachter. This was the first college class I got to choose for myself, without having to follow guidelines for classes I need to take for my major. I enjoyed it a lot. As someone from a Christian background, learning about Jewish history and texts that were important to the people who made up the foundation of Christianity was immensely educational. Professor Lachter was a joy in the classroom and a wonderful teacher. He seemed so genuinely enamored with the subject he taught, and his enthusiasm was infectious to our class discussions. If there was a class I could go back to experience again for the first time, it would be his Jewish Heretics class. Interests outside of classroom: I enjoy the many mediums of art. I make digital art and am very interested in comic books and animation of various genres. I like studying the numerous ways people can draw out images from flat pieces of paper and canvas, watching as they push shadows and pull lights by layering colors, paints, and textures to create something familiar out of something abstract. A message from Hannah: Thank you for generously investing in my education and my future. I’m very fortunate to be able to attend a university such as Lehigh, and I’m extremely grateful for the financial aid that allows me to continue to attend. I have two younger siblings, and this scholarship allows my parents some breathing room when it comes to handling the college expenses of three children. Not only am I grateful for taking this stake in my education, but my family is as well. It gives me the freedom and opportunity to be able to explore many possibilities for my future career and eventually give back to my community, my family, and Lehigh. HANNAH ALAS
