Stabler Report 2023

Favorite Lehigh tradition My favorite Lehigh tradition thus far is LeLaf. The weeks leading up to the game are filled with activities like Bed Races and putting up signs poking fun at Lafayette. The school spirit is unmatched. Hometown: South Ozone Park, NY College: College of Health Major: Population Health Why did you choose Lehigh? I chose Lehigh because of its commitment to helping every student receive an excellent education while being able to pursue all their passions. I’m excited about the opportunities at Lehigh that allow me to learn beyond the scope of my major. In my case, I’m studying population health with a double minor in global studies and maternal and child health. In addition, I’ll be graduating with a certificate in global citizenship. My courses range from number-heavy classes like biostatistics to discussion-based classes like Cosmopolitanism and Culture. Being able to effortlessly pursue my diverse interests is unique to Lehigh’s support of interdisciplinary programs. What is your favorite class or subject? The courses required for my certificate in global citizenship are my favorite. They have forced me to think about my future role in the world from a global perspective. The global citizenship courses are taught by Professor Angelina Rodríguez, and she helps facilitate the difficult conversations that come with discussing the implications of a globalized world. As someone whose goal is to ultimately enter the medical field, I believe learning about global citizenship will help enhance my future bedside manner. Interests outside the classroom: I enjoy giving back to the local community in Bethlehem. My work-study program is tutoring at the local middle school, and I like helping the kids with their homework. I also enjoy going on walks across campus, reading on Lehigh’s lawn on sunny days, and going to the gym, especially during the winter months when outdoor activities and exercise are difficult. A message from Sofia: Thank you for helping me get a college education. Growing up in a low-income household, college was always something I thought was too expensive. By the time I was a senior in high school, I had the grades but didn’t know how I would be able to afford to go. Opening up Lehigh’s financial aid package felt like a dream come true. I come from an immigrant family, and going to college has made me a step closer to the American dream. I can’t express how grateful I am to you. Receiving this scholarship is truly a blessing I don’t take for granted, and I hope to be able to donate to students like me in the future. SOFIA ROUSSEAU
