Don’t miss out on our golden reunion, as it’s sure to be a special event! ’72Charles S. “Chuck” Steele, 2080 Flint Hill Road, Coopersburg, PA 18036. (610) 737-2156 (M); chuck. steele@alum.lehigh.edu When you receive this, we will be only about two months away from our 50th Reunion, June 9-12, 2022. We should already have bombarded you with promotional mail and emails, and some personal phone calls. Ideally, you have already registered to be with us that weekend. If not, this is my last chance to urge you to act now. We are looking forward to our best reunion attendance ever! By now, I expected that six consecutive columns focused on attorneys would have resulted in more feedback or flack. I did not receive even one correction about an erroneous, defamatory or libelous statement. I’m rather certain that there were errors and guess that there were also some omissions. If I missed you and you were at any time a lawyer, then please let me know so that these class notes can include an amending clause in a future issue, OK? I’ve had the privilege of playing music with very few world-class bassists over the years. RichardW. Lusignea is one of them. We attended Lower Moreland High School, then migrated to Lehigh together with John P. Strehle andDouglas H. Sammak ’88G. Fromour freshman to junior years, Rick, John (trumpet) and I (sax/flute) were in a band namedGauze. It was a horn-driven band, rounded out by two other 1972 classmates: Leslie Gasser (trumpet/harmonica) and Richard Eisenberg (valve trombone). We played quite a few fraternities and residence halls at Lehigh and evenmore prestigious private day schools along School House Row in Philly. It was a fun band. When the LMHS Class of 1968 celebrated our 20thReunion, another of Rick’s bands graciously invitedme to sit inwith them. That happened again at our 50th Reunion in 2018. I mention the musical involvement first, and continue that below, but believe that I can make Rick even more recognizable to many if I explain that he and John (both mechanical engineering majors and roommates) were also entrepreneurs while at Lehigh. Lots of you who lived in residence halls or frats on the lower Hill may recall them announcing their entrance “Hoagie Mon!” just when you needed an evening study snack break. Rick was the taller of the two, with a distinctive, dark-haired, permed Afro hairstyle. These days, he has a full head of wavy-straight, white shoulder-length hair. He received a master’s degree from MIT and has been living in the Boston/Cambridge area ever since. He is principal of his own firm, leveraging research and development capital and contracts for innovative engineering entities. Rumor has it that he was involved in the development of the stealth bomber, but if I knewmuch more than that, somebody might have to kill me. For the official presentation of his professional persona, check out LinkedIn. Getting back to the music, however, “Slick Rick Roscoe” has been laying down the funky, soulful bass line for the Chicken Slacks, one of the absolute hottest party bands in the Boston area, for quite a long time. They were Thursday night regulars at the Cantab Lounge in Cambridge until the pandemic closed things down for a bit. I understand that they have recently returned to action and are regularly booked on wedding and corporate affair circuits. If you can get out to see them in person, do it. But search Google or YouTube and you can also see and hear them. John and Les seem to have eluded even Lehigh’s long informational arm. Rich Eisenberg was my predecessor as class correspondent. I’ll ask him to generate his own update now that he’s retired in Florida. ’73Patrick Fekula, 1891 Evans Drive South, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. (904) 4514949 (M); Pfekula7@gmail.com Daniel Richter reported that the 1971 champion Lehigh soccer teamwas honored at halftime of a Lehigh-Lafayette soccer game this past October 16. They were recognized alongside the 2000 team, who were also league champions. Fourteen members of the 1971 teamwere there to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their championship season and to meet with the 2021 team in a locker room pregame rally with Coach Dean Koski ’20P ’21P ’23P ’24P. Their presence must have motivated the team; the Lehigh squad beat Lafayette 2-0! The 1971 teamwas led by players from all four Lehigh classes and finished their season with a 103-1 record under the late Coach TomFleck. Teammembers who represented the Class of ’73 during that championship season are Bob Cicale, Paul Degen, Drew Fetters, Dana Pizarro, Daniel Richter and John Spahr. Robert “Bob” Vitale checked in to let everyone know he is essentially retired but has retained a small book of clients to “stay in the game.” Bob has been a CPA and shareholder since 1976 with Concannon, Miller & Co., located in Bethlehem and St. Petersburg, Fla. He has been married to Suzanne since 1974 and has two children, Jan and Matthew ’05, but added, “no grandchildren yet.” Bob and Suzanne have been splitting their year, residing in Macungie during the spring and summer months and enjoying the fall and winter seasons in Scottsdale, Arizona. They have traveled to St. Martin almost every year since 1990, taken several cruises and riverboat tours throughout Europe, and, added Bob, enjoyed “two great trips through Italy.” Wedding bells rang out for Michael Holtz and Joy Reader on November 6, 2021. The ceremony, officiated by two rabbis from their synagogue, was held at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. All seven children from their first marriages participated in the ceremony. Their blended family includes Traci, a business owner and fashion designer in Florida; Jennifer, a partner at an accounting firm in Delaware; Tiffany, who has three sons, in addition to serving as the director of event planning for three venues in Georgia; Jonathan, who celebrated having a baby and a promotion to Navy chief in 2021; Ken, also a Lehigh grad5 4 | L E H I G H B U L L E T I N
