2021 Stabler Donor Impact Report R4

ARTS AND SCIENCES Name: Abigail Juan Santiago Hometown: Norristown, PA Major: Psychology Class: 2023 Favorite activity: Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority Favorite faculty or staff: Professor Hugo Ceron-Anaya, Sociology Dream job: Clinical Psychologist I plan to be a clinical psychologist. I know that going to a school like Lehigh will expand my network and give me better oppor- tunities. Lehigh offers many resources and opportunities to take advantage of in order to support my goals. My family inspires me to excel at Lehigh. I am a first-generation Latinx woman, and attending Lehigh means a lot to my family. I want to do well and graduate so that they are proud of the sacrifices they made for me to be here. I am originally from Oakland, California, and I came to Lehigh because I wanted to expand my network. I want to tell potential employers who want to hire me that I took a risk and stepped out of my comfort zone by traveling to the East Coast for college instead of remaining in California. One of my favorite classes was Dr. Hugo Ceron-Anaya’s class that taught the history of immigration. This is my favorite class because there is so much that we don’t learn about immigration in the typical classroom. His class provides a better understand- ing of immigration and how, as a society, we need to be more welcoming and inclusive. Thank you for this scholarship. Giving back means to give something that was once given to you in order to show appreciation. It is a gesture of kindness and gratitude that can be demon- strated in many ways.
