Page 18 • Lehigh University In the years before Lehigh admitted female undergraduates (1971) and when nearly all the graduate students were male, the University sponsored a unique way to raise money for Southside charities -- the Ugly Man Contest. Students could self-nominate or be nominated by friends. Canisters placed around campus were emblazoned with the names of the candidates, and the one who received the most donated cash was proclaimed "Ugliest Man."
