Palmer, Vira; Sethi, and Junmoke James; (Front) Laura Duffany, Bonar Ayambem, Marina Mendez Legarra, Alexis Soulias, and Emma Chzusano RAIHAN ALAM is an Eckardt Scholar, pursuing a dual degree in psychology and political science with a minor in philosophy. He is the founder and president of the Douglass Dialogues, a club devoted to constructive dialogue about important contemporary social issues, for which he won the Contribution to Student Life Award. Raihan is an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Michael Gill's Blame Lab and Dr. Valerie Taylor's Stereotyping and Social Interactions Lab. He has received a number of research grants from the College of Arts and Sciences for research on interventions to reduce intergroup conflict. He has a publication in review on reducing verbal retaliation between liberals and conservatives. Outside of Lehigh, he is an undergraduate trainee for the Society for Personality and Social Psychology and a student affiliate of the Center for the Science of Moral Understanding. Previously, he has served as a volunteer counselor for the Crisis Text Line, a not-for-profit organization that provides a free mental health texting service; a tutor for elementary and middle school students in South Bethlehem; and an attorney for the university's mock trial team. He plans to pursue a Ph.D. in social psychology and study the psychology of extreme intergroup conflict and violence. ASGAR ALI is pursuing a degree in materials science and engineering. He was born and raised in Chittagong, Bangladesh, and came to the United States for his higher education. He has a strong interest in impactdriven work. At Lehigh, he has worked as a Global Social Impact Fellow for two years, running the GRO Mushroom social venture that seeks to establish mushroom production systems in low-resource environments, to strengthen local food security. While running the venture, he authored two articles published at the IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference. Asgar is a self-taught photographer and has taken photos for several restaurants and many Lehigh University organizations. He is a co-founder of Creatives of Lehigh, a student-led club that aims to highlight the stories of artists from various walks of life through photography. He is the marketing chair of the Muslim Student Association. Asgar has a co-op with the Dow Chemical Company, working part-time as a wire, cable, and specialty plastics engineering intern. He will work there full-time in the summer of 2022. After graduation, he plans on pursuing a master's degree in polymer science and engineering. BONOR AYAMBEM is pursuing a degree in computer engineering and a minor in creative writing. She was born and raised in Abuja, Nigeria, and arrived in the US to pursue her undergraduate degree. At Lehigh, she is a resident assistant, a senator in the National Society of Black Engineers, and a member of the Eta Kappa Nu engineering honor society and is on the Dean's Student Advisory Council. She created and hosts a podcast, Lehigh Insider, produced by The Brown and White. There, she interviews members of the Lehigh faculty and staff to learn more about their lives in and outside of the institution. She also belongs to two dance teams and enjoys literature and film. She plans to pursue a career in software engineering and fiction writing. EMMA CHIUSANO is pursuing majors in biocomputational engineering and in health, medicine, and society within the Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts and Sciences (IDEAS) honors program. At Lehigh, Emma participates in phycology research and an independent study to design a vertical axis wind turbine. She is co-founder and president of the Lehigh renewable energy club, internal vicepresident of Lehigh Pre-SOMA, a Rossin Junior Fellow, and a Med Mentor and has previously served as a team leader in the corporate social responsibility class for Engineers Without Borders. Emma enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering at ENGin, where she helps Ukrainian students improve their English via Zoom conversations. She has also spent the past seven years as a "Big" for Big Brothers Big Sisters. This summer, Emma plans to work with startups and entrepreneurial leaders in the Netherlands as a Lehigh University Global Entrepreneurial Fellow. LAURA DUFFANY is an Eckardt Scholar, pursuing a dual degree in behavioral neuroscience and global studies. She was originally adopted from China but was raised on the island of Puerto Rico by mainland Americans; therefore, multiculturalism is an essential part of Laura's identity as well as part of her motivation to stay intellectually curious. In her free time, Laura enjoys listening to diverse music genres as well as spending time outdoors. At Lehigh, Laura is involved with the Office of Residence Life, where she serves as head gryphon (head residence assistant), as well as the LeMED (the Lehigh medical club), which she helped co-found in spring 2020. Laura is also part of the Global Social Impact Fellowship program, where she works with the SicklED team to develop a low-cost, point-of-care diagnostic tool for sickle cell disease in low- to middle-income countries. Laura is inspired by the unique ways in which human neuroscience drives the ability to connect cross-culturally; therefore, she hopes to eventually pursue a career in public health or medicine. BRYCE ERDMAN is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in industrial and systems engineering. At Lehigh, he participates in the Baja racing team; he has travelled with the team to compete in New York (2021). Bryce is an active member of the outing and ski clubs. He has been involved with the community service office, frequently participating in their blood drives and tutoring at the local middle school. In 2022, he will study abroad in Germany through the Pforzheim University Engineers Made in Germany program, concentrating on the German automotive industry. Bryce plans to pursue a career as a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry, focusing on sustainable transportation. JUNMOKE JAMES is an Eckhardt Scholar, pursuing a degree in English and minors in psychology and economics. She was born and raised in Marietta, GA, and came to Lehigh after being recruited to play for the varsity women's tennis team. At Lehigh, Junmoke is a member of the Gryphon Society. She continues to be an avid tennis player and writer, last year competing for Jamaica's national tennis team in the Billie Jean Cup and publishing a short story, "Kickball," in the Sierra Nevada Review. MARINA MENDEZ LEGARRA is pursuing a dual degree in civil engineering and finance in the Integrated Business and Engineering Honors Program (IBE), with a minor in economics. At Lehigh, she is part of the Division I women's golf team and serves on the student-athlete council. Marina is an admissions fellow, a head resident assistant, and a University Committee on Discipline student representative; she is also involved in the Newman Council (Catholic Campus Ministry) and the Engineers Without Borders chapter. Last summer, Marina interned with Artisan Partners through the Lehigh Enterprise Systems Center. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in structural engineering. CAROLINE E. PALMER is a predental student pursuing a major in biology and a minor in religion. She works as a lead fellow for the Technology, Research, and Communication (TRAC) program and next fall will take on a veteran mentor fellow position. She is an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Amber Rice's lab, testing the learning and memory capabilities of hybrid chickadees versus their parent species. Caroline is the president of the LU Bhangra dance team and public relations chair of the Dental Society and previously served as treasurer of Zeta Tau Alpha. In her free time, she operates a self-established embroidery business, hand-sews masks for the nonprofit Give Back a Smile, and frequents the gym. Caroline will be applying to dental school this June and aspires to matriculate in August 2023. VIRAJ SETHI is majoring in accounting and pursuing a certificate in business information systems along with his CPA license. He is from Short Hills, NJ, but he was born in Singapore and has lived in London. As part of the 2021 Tauck Scholars Program, Viraj interned at Dataconomy, a Berlin-based, data-science media company. On campus, he is president of the sports analytics club and a member of the spikeball club executive board. Viraj loves to play golf, basketball, poker, and almost any competitive game. He is in his happy place when he is watching the Mets play at Citi Field with his close friends and family. After graduation, Viraj hopes to enter the public accounting world in New York City, with aspirations of a postgraduate degree. ALEXIS SOULIAS is pursuing a degree in computer engineering with a minor in business. At Lehigh, she participates in research within her department, studying acoustic transmissions for underwater communication. She placed second in the IEEE Morton Student Paper Contest for her research on the 555-timer integrated circuit. Alexis is also a Rossin Junior Fellow and a teaching assistant for an undergraduate course in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. She is the treasurer for the Society of Women Engineers as well as an orientation coordinator, working to organize and train staff for the upcoming summer orientation program. She continues her studies outside of Lehigh as a system-on-chip design engineer intern for Intel Corporation. In her free time, she has tapped into her business interests and created a clothing company with two friends. Their product designs are centered around various humanitarian causes, and their company donates its proceeds to nonprofit organizations. BEN WAINFAN is pursuing a degree in economics. He currently works with faculty in the economics department, researching monetary policy models and their effects on US citizens from varying income brackets. Ben is a former Tauck Scholar and spent the summer of 2021 working virtually for Capitals Circle Group, a boutique economic and investment consulting firm based in Berlin. He is a portfolio manager for Lehigh's Thompson International Portfolio; a Technology, Research, and Communication (TRAC) fellow; and an active member of several on-campus discussion clubs and has been an analyst for the Lehigh Consulting Group. In summer 2022, Ben will join Bank of America as a debt capital markets analyst in New York City; he is pursuing a career in environmental, social, and governance capital markets. College of Business
