HASHEM ALHATTAB is a Davis United World College Scholar studying chemical and biomolecular engineering. Born and raised in Jordan, he pursued a global education from Amman to India before arriving at Lehigh. On campus, he embodies the spirit of community engagement and leadership as vice president of the Middle Eastern Student Union, a tutor for America Reads, and an international orientation leader. As a Global Social Impact Fellow, Hashem researched Almaty food systems, examining sustainability and supply chain. While working on the Purple Drop project with Professors Mayuresh Kothare and Mark Arnold, he explored how biological systems can revolutionize data storage through DNA computing. Hashem has interned at Sanofi and Merck, aiming to pursue a career in pharmaceuticals. LAILA S. DAGES is a pre–physician assistant student pursuing a degree in behavioral neuroscience and a health, medicine, and society minor. As a member of the Lehigh University chapter of the American Medical Student Association, she volunteers at Broughal Middle School, teaching basic science experiments. Laila is part of the music committee for University Productions, planning the spring concert and collaborating with the marketing team. She enjoys observing physician assistants in the operating room and in outpatient offices. She has held several leadership positions in Zeta Tau Alpha. Laila’s other interests include running half-marathons and traveling to the British Virgin Islands. After Lehigh, she plans to work as a medical assistant and pursue physician assistant school. NATALIE JAVITT is pursuing an economics degree with minors in applied math and mass communication. She serves as the news editor for The Brown and White and is a peer writing mentor in the Technology, Research, and Communication program. Through the Community Service Office, she tutors local school students. In the summer of 2024, she interned with the York County Economic Alliance, working on projects that spearheaded economic development. During her time at Lehigh, she has prioritized taking mathbased economics classes to support her love of quantitative reasoning in addition to her writing-based extracurriculars. After graduation, Natalie hopes to find a job that combines her love of economics and journalism in financial reporting. OLIVIA A. LUNDQUIST is pursuing a dual degree in materials science and engineering and in environmental studies through the Lehigh Integrated Degree in Engineering, Arts and Sciences honors program. She is a veteran tour guide; Technology, Research, and Communication Writing Fellow; UN Youth Representative for the World Corrosion Organization; Rossin Junior Fellow; and two-time orientation leader. She co-founded the Lehigh Arts & Crafts Club and plays club tennis. Olivia was selected for Lehigh Launch: Ecuador and Global Citizenship Programs, and studied abroad in the Dominican Republic. She has conducted research in Xuanhong Cheng’s laboratory, studying biopolymer degradation, and in Lesley Chow’s laboratory, developing artificial corneal replacements. Olivia aspires to postgraduate studies in polymer sustainability or biomaterials. JOSEPH (GUS) MAASS is a Davis United World College Scholar and a Gilman Scholar, pursuing a B.S. in economics, a minor in business information systems, and an international business certificate. Gus was raised in Tryon, NC, and attended the United World College Costa Rica. At Lehigh, Gus is a Technology, Research, and Communication Fellow and a marketing and communications assistant MARTINDALE STUDENT ASSOCIATES HONORS PROGRAM 2025–26 CROATIA
