7 6 | L E H I G H B U L L E T I N N O T E S REMEMBERING Revel ly Paul ’86 M.Ed. A Champion of Divergent Thinking Education specialist Revelly A. Paul ’86 M.Ed., who for years had brought Lehigh professors and university students together for thematic summer experiences for gifted middle school children, died May 28, 2022. Paul served as director of Lehigh’s Summer Gifted Program, which challenged creative and inventive students from throughout the Lehigh Valley (Pa.) and elsewhere. Under her leadership from 1996 to 2005, gifted students considered the challenges of planetary exploration on a “Mission to Mars,” dug to fnd clues to solve an archeological mystery and cleaned up a simulated acid spill inMonocacy Creek. Friends and family describePaul as quirky, funand intellectually curious. “To be sure, my mother did some extraordinary things,” said her daughter, Jessica Paul. “My mother dyed the Monocacy Creek green. It was for some educational purpose to teach kids about underground caves, but really, it was just for fun. And all in a day’s work for her.” Paul mentored parents, was instrumental in bringing advanced-placement classes to the Bethlehem Area (Pa.) School District and served as president of the Pennsylvania Association for Gifted Education, winning the Neuber-Pregler Award in 1998. She was a reference librarian at Linderman Library. David Snyder, adjunct professor in Lehigh’s College of Education, said he always found Paul to be “innovative, energetic and assiduous.” Snyder said, “Her wit and creative intelligence will be missed. Revelly was a tireless and powerful advocate of gifted education.” Robert Kachmar, amiddle school science teacher in the Saucon Valley (Pa.) School District, has fond memories of working with Paul at the gifted camps. When he was just starting out in his teaching career, he said, “I was fairly stif in my teaching, and she pushed me into an uncomfortable zone that showed me how to set up experiential learning. She believed in me. She was truly a mentor that I recognize now howmuch it impacted my teaching style and the experiences I went on to set up for my students. … I became a better teacher because of her infuence.” Paul is survived by her husband, Jack Paul, professor emeritus of accounting at Lehigh; son Jefrey Fynn-Paul ’94 and his wife Jennifer Fynn; daughter Jessica Paul ’97, an adjunct professor of architecture at Lehigh in 2002 and 2008, her husband, Kevin Chu, and their four children; and brotherMichael Finn. Pittsburgh, Pa., Aug. 4, 2022. Mr. Rust was a Phi Gamma Delta brother, as well as a member of the football and tennis teams. He owned a company working as a homebuilder in the Pittsburgh area. His father, S. Murray Rust Jr. ’34, and brothers, James Rust ’67 and John Rust ’72, are members of the Lehigh family. Robert D. Stetten ’61 Ph.D. ’70, Dallas, Pa., July 1, 2021. Amember of the Mustard & Cheese, Dr. Stetten was a professor at Wilkes University. He was also a playwright and author, writing “Calling the Piper’s Tune” and “A Flower of Our Age.” Andrew R. Ellenberger Jr. ’62, Essex, Vt., July 12, 2022. Mr. Ellenberger was a Theta Xi brother and a member of the Marching 97. He worked for IBM for nearly 40 years, focusing on semiconductor design and development. Ronald F. Falusy ’62, Hilltown, Pa., May 24, 2022. Mr. Falusy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for Moore Products Co. for nearly 40 years. His brother, Richard Falusy, is a member of the Class of 1966. Albert M. Jones Jr. ’62, Covington, La., Aug. 2, 2022. Mr. Jones was a member of the track team and a Sigma Chi brother. He worked for Dynamic Exploration before becoming an independent consultant. Alan G. Rieper ’62, Marblehead, Mass., Aug. 16, 2022. A Phi Kappa Alpha brother, Mr. Rieper was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, both active duty and reserves. He enjoyed a successful career in investment banking as a security analyst at Citibank, National Life, Cowen & Co, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse First Boston. Richard C. Sheppard ’62, San Angelo, Texas, Aug. 21, 2022. Mr. Sheppard worked in the oil business for over 40 years and served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Robert V. Henning Jr. ’64, Roslyn Harbor, N.Y., July 13, 2022. A Phi Delta Theta brother, Mr. Henning served in the U.S. Navy during the VietnamWar. He spent most of his career working in the family business, Belmont Metals. His Lehigh legacy includes his father, Robert Henning ’38, and brother, Douglas Henning ’75. He is also a member of the Tower Society. Peter B. Beck ’65, Mount Pleasant, S.C., Aug. 16, 2022. Mr. Beck was a Phi Gamma Delta brother. He worked as the chairman and president of the Lawrence-McFadden Company. He is known for revolutionizing the manufacturing process of coatings for guitars. He was also a volunteer for his class and a member of the Tower Society. David R. Pesuit ’65, Goshen, Mass., July 1, 2022. Dr. Pesuit was a member of the Marching 97 and Phi Beta Kappa honor society, as well as director of the chamber music ensemble. He was a Fulbright scholar. He founded The Accident Analysis Group, where he became an expert in forensic analysis and helped pioneer the use of 3-D animation as evidence in courtroom testimony. He authored a book called “The Art Sleuth— True Tales of Fakes, Forgeries and Incredible Finds.” His brother, Melvin Pesuit, is a member of the Class of 1974. James D. Womer ’66 M.S. ’67 Ph.D. ’70, Woodbridge, Va., July 16, 2022. Dr. Womer was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Phi Eta Sigma and Eta Kappa Nu honor societies. He worked for Miklos Systems Inc. Jack I.
