I will be the new alumni correspondent for our year! My name is Clare Fonstein, and I graduated last spring with a B.A. in journalism and international relations. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. In college, I was very involved in The Brown andWhite and the Martindale Student Associate Honors program. Now, I am pursuing journalism as a Hearst JournalismFellow. The fellowship is two years long, and I get placed in reporting positions at diferent Hearst-owned newsrooms throughout my time. My current location is at the Houston Chronicle. I chose to be an alumni correspondent because when refecting on my time at Lehigh, one of the major highlights was writing for the student paper. Some of the things I enjoyed about the paper was getting to know Lehigh better and connecting with others on and around campus, which I am feeling a bit nostalgic about in my very new post-grad life. I am hoping, in this role, that I can take a piece of that enjoyment with me. If you would like to be featured in the Alumni Bulletin Class of 2022 section at any point, please reach out! Whether it is life updates or Lehigh-related thoughts, my brand-new alumni inbox is open. You can reach me at clf222@alum. lehigh.edu. I hope you are all having a nice fall, whether it is on campus or not! ’23Connor Melko, clm323@lehigh. edu Hello all. I am glad to be writing my frst detailed article as the correspondent for the Class of 2023. As we are in our senior year, we are looking to enjoy our last year here on SouthMountain before departing. There are great stories to report from this past summer about internships and travel. Allison Duane was living in Santiago, Chile, for eight weeks with a host family. She had an internship with Good Neighbors, an NGO working to mitigate educational inequalities and protect children’s rights. She researched, wrote a paper, created educational infographics and helped run a robotics workshop. While living with her host family, she was able to learn a lot about Chilean culture. She was also able to travel up north to the Atacama Desert and south to Torres del Paine in Patagonia while there, as well as rock climb in lots of places surrounding Santiago. It was a stunning country, and everyone she met was extremely welcoming. She can’t wait to go back someday. Staying closer to campus, Andrei Arion had a great time interning for B. BraunMedical in the R&D pump development team. It was amazing to be a part of the product development process for a medical device. He could have never imagined the amount of work that goes into the tiniest mechanical/electrical/software details that are present in a product. Additionally, learning how to design for manufacturability was an eye-opening experience. He was thankful to the B. Braun team for a terrifc summer. Jacob Martinez interned at Adidas in Portland, Ore., working as a digital marketing intern and traveling down the West Coast. He was also able to attend the 2022World Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., showcasing the Adidas three stripes. My classmates were very active this past summer, and I cannot wait to report what is in store next. If anyone has interesting job/experience news about accomplishments for my classmates, please reach out to me: clm323@lehigh.edu. ’24Samantha Gropper, shg224@lehigh. edu Hey, Class of 2024! I hope everyone enjoyed their summer break. I’mexcited to share some updates about what Lehigh’s rising junior class has beenup to during their time of fromschool. Rhea Jadhav spent her summer in SanFranciscowith the Startup Academy at Lehigh@ Nasdaq as a product marketing intern for Buzzboard, helping themwith external outreach, generating marketing content and writing blog posts for its website. As a New Jersey native, Rhea loved living in San Francisco for 10 weeks and getting to explore a new city with her fellow interns. This part of the programmade her experience even more meaningful and allowed her to grow personally in many ways. She also gained a new sense of professionalism and confdence in the workplace, applied communication skills and learned newmarketing techniques from her co-workers. Rhea is also involved in diferent clubs on campus. She is a returning orientation leader through the Ofce of First-Year Experience and the vice president of marketing for Alpha Phi. Rhea looks forward to utilizing her knowledge and new skills in her future marketing classes and extracurriculars on campus. Isabella Insingo traveled to Bududa, Uganda, this summer with professors Kelly Austin and Mark Noble and the Global Studies department. As a journalism and global studies double major and history minor, Isabella combined her interests to flm and interview people in the village. She is now creating a documentary-style project about the challenges young girls experience while pursuing their education. Isabella traveled with 12 other students and enjoyed once-in-a-lifetime experiences together. Some of her favorite parts of the trip were going on a safari, hiking to Murchison Falls and cruising on the Victoria Nile. Every day, she was able to learn something new from her fellow students, doing research, living in a homestay and getting to meet the people of Bubiita, the sub-county within Bubuda, where they lived. Getting to experience life in a diferent country has broadened her view of the world and helped her grow in so many ways. Isabella hopes to become a news anchor. This experience will give her hands-on experience in investigative and digital-media journalism. She is looking forward to editing her flm this semester and sharing her work with the rest of the world. Lehigh students were able to experience so many unique opportunities this summer! From traveling, working, conducting research and more, it has been a rewarding and transformative summer break.
