Lehigh Fall Bulletin 2022

FA L L 2 0 2 2 | 6 3 N O T E S Reunion 2022 was great! And everyone loved that multi-year classes were on campus! If you couldn’t make it, we still want to hear what’s happening in your lives. Send in updates but know the next few issues will be flled with reunion tidbits. As your new co-columnist, Melissa (Gitlin) Jacoby, I’ll provide a few updates. Still living in Massachusetts, I recently celebrated 23 years at Bright Horizons, selling family-friendly corporate benefts, and I’m training for my 22nd Pan-Mass Challenge, which I ride in honor of my frst husband (check it out at pmc.org/ML0078). My husband, Josh, and I have two boys ages 15 and 17, and we’re starting the college process! My wing-woman for the weekend was fellow government major Rachel (Beck) Diamond. Rachel married Lehigh grad Jason Diamond ’89, and they reside in Woodclif Lake, N.J., with Syracuse-bound Jessica, 18, and Justin, 16. After nearly two decades at The Associated Press, she hung up her journalism career and has spent the last 11 years helping students get into the top MBA programs. Rachel’s AXO sisters, Jamie (Alexander) Principe and Bena (Spiegel) Blakeslee, also were back on campus. Jamie, who works in interior design and for her family business, lives in Brooklyn with husband Mike and their two daughters, including Mira, a rising sophomore at Lehigh. Bena lives with husband Thomas and her two kids in Chappaqua, N.Y. Her daughter, Kaitlin, is a rising sophomore at UVA. A while back, Rachel reconnected with Mollie (Gilligan) Wolin, who also works in MBA admissions consulting out of Sudbury, Mass., where she keeps busy with her four kids, ranging from age 17 to 22! Mollie keeps in touch with fellow Gamma Phi Lesley (Shorr) Klein. Lesley lives in Wyckof, N.J., and owns the recruiting business Miller Klein Group. Lesley’s older son will be a senior at Clemson, and the other will be a freshman at Union. Lesley gets to see her sorority sister Tracy (Lazzaro) Byrnes in nearby Franklin Lakes. Tracy works for UBS as a fnancial adviser and has two kids attending Lehigh (’23 and ’24). Her daughter Julia is a second-generation Gamma Phi and rose to the ranks of house president for her junior year! A few more Gamma Phis were spotted at the “Block Party on the Hill” that weekend! We caught up with Heather (Sange) Mahland whose hubby, fellow grad Russ Mahland, couldn’t make it to the reunion due to European travel for work. Russ is CMO at Clearbridge Investments. They have three kids—one just graduated from BC and two currently go to Lehigh (’24 and ’26). They live in Larchmont, N.Y., not too far from Becky Hanley, who lives in Pleasantville, N.Y., with her 7-year-old son. Becky, who works in media sales, is loving life in the suburbs after fnally leaving NYC mid-pandemic. Also joining the reunion fun was Leslie Embree Kelly, who lives in Rowayton, Conn., with her husband and 12-yearold daughter. She works at Columbia on their Giving Day Program. Kristin (Vosburg) MacNight few in from San Francisco, where she lives with her husband (a Lafayette Leopard) and their daughters, a seventh-grader and high school freshman twins! Also visiting fromSan Francisco and back on campus after 20 years was Jef Bahrenburg. Jefworks in the insurance industry and has two boys, ages 10 and 12. Also visiting from SFwas Bryan Everett, who works in the ad-tech business at Amazon and has a 17-year-old son, who will be a senior in high school. Finally, Joseph “Riddles” Riddlesberger alsomade the cross-country trek back to Lehigh. He’s working in digital media in the cannabis industry and has three young children. ’93Leslie Keating Joiner, (404) 2763280; joiner1@comcast.net Hello, 1993 friends! Hope you are well. I know I mentioned this in the last update, but now is the time to start making plans to attend our (gulp) 30th class reunion. The dates are set, and if you’ve never attended a reunion (or you only hit the really big ones), this is your year. Mark your calendars for June 8-11, 2023. To the news: Great to hear from Mike Constantinou, who wrote that back in early November 2021 there was a Delta Phi reunion at Steven Napolitano’s backyard retreat. Almost everyone from the 1993 class was there: Mike, Andrew Kaufman, John Hinkle, Rob Sackett, Lance Baraker and Parag Patel. Mike recently joined Wolfe Research, while his wife, Maria (Caiazzo) Constantinou, is a managing director at PwC. They have three children: daughter Gillian attends Auburn University, son Trey is at Stevens and is playing lacrosse, and daughter Allie is at Westfeld High School, in the town where the family currently resides. CJ Weir got an M.S. in communications design from Pratt Institute in New York City. He is married and writes, “My son just chose TCNJ over Lehigh for some reason.” He works in information architecture in the autotech industry for Holman Automotive. In his spare time, he sails catamarans, surfs, paddleboards (old people surfng) and volunteers a lot with his county parks. He invites Lehigh classmates in the area to “come to the beach; I’ll teach you how to get in for free.” That’s all the class news I have this time. Remember, if you’ve never submitted an update for the class column, we would love to hear from you. Job change? Cross-country move? Exciting vacation? Grandchildren? Tell us what’s new in your life. Take care, and stay in touch. ’94Michael B. York, 575West End Avenue #9A, New York, NY 10024; michael.york@ nyplaw.com As many of you know, Lehigh held a larger than usual reunion weekend this year—for not only classes like 1997, who would celebrate their 25th, but also 1996 and 1995, who missed the celebration due to the pandemic. They made up for it this year! My fraternity, Zeta Psi, was made up of many soccer and lacrosse players. (It could also be the reason that it’s now a sorority.) My fraternity brother Rich Margolies ’96, along with Matt Hinton ’96 and Mark Wilson, organized a lacrosse game and tailgate to pay tribute to their teammate Michael Gardiner ’96, who sadly passed away on Feb. 10, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. It was a pleasure to know him while at Lehigh. Many of his teammates and family members made it back to campus to honor his legacy. They included Ryan Adams ’96, Vince Alferi ’97, Brad Baker ’98, Drew Bauer ’95, Craig Brown ’98, Brian Crawford ’97, Matt Donnelly ’99, Mark Duncan ’98, Robert Eising ’98, Todd Fletcher ’97, John Fowler ’99, John Gallucci ’95, Al Gardner, David Garris ’97, Patrick Gilligan ’92, Dolph Habeck ’98, Derick Hallahan, Bob Hamilton ’92, William Harke ’98, Jef Jenkins, Scott Kamin ’99, Dave Lyons ’98, BrianMalone ’98, EthanMarsh ’01, KevinMcCafrey ’93, Doug McKerns ’01, Michael Metzger
