Lehigh Fall Bulletin 2022

N O T E S many Denver Lehigh events as possible. Bonnie (Levy) Reagan and her husband, David, are living in Parsippany, N.J. Bonnie works for Novartis Pharmaceuticals as a program director for oncology drug development teams. They have two daughters, one to be a senior this fall at Lehigh and the younger daughter entering her sophomore year of college at U. Rochester. Bonnie chatted with a few folks at the reunion, including Jodi Landau Ryan, Gary Emig, Mike Pagan (and his wife, Terry (Treadwell) Pagan ’86) and Tim Tritsch as well as Janine (Tommassini) Keller. She also briefy saw James Maida (who received an alumni recognition award— congrats, James!). Robert Dunn lives inMiami, working as a fnancial adviser with Alex Brown, and spends the summers on Ashley Lake on the mountainside inMontana. He has gotten some sustainable forestry grants from the NRCS and has been cleaning up the propertymaking trails, campsites and more. Although he does have some hot days inMontana, he says that is nothing compared to the heat and humidity of Miami. Best of all, Robert says visitors are welcome! Joe Hancock came all the way to the reunion from near Milan, Italy, where he works as CTO for a cash machine company. His connection to Italy goes back to 1985, months after graduating Lehigh. At the time, he lived in Bologna for a total of three years and worked for a non-proft called The Navigators. His wife is from Italy, but they chose to move to the States, where Joe had better chances of getting back into engineering and she could gain a full experience of American life, culture and friendships. They both enjoyed their 29 years in the States together, raising their kids and visiting her family in Italy several times over the years, but had always hoped for an opportunity to return to Italy for a longer term. Joe was thankful to Jim Morabito, who rallied their circle of Theta Chi brothers well in advance, and Joe was able to combine the visit with attending his daughter’s graduation from Lehigh. And speaking of Jim, he and Mary Beth (Dulcey) Morabito, who have lived inMichigan for over 30 years, not only came back for the reunion but they renewed their wedding vows in Packer Chapel. Mary Beth has spent her career in volunteer service with her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, including elected positions on international council and now as the president of their national housing corporation board. Jim has been with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) for the last 17 years. He was one of the founding members of BCG’s Detroit ofce. Jimmoved to Detroit one week after graduation, knowing only that he’d be there for 10 weeks of training—and never left. Mary Beth moved there after their wedding in 1986. Speaking of Detroit, the city has been through an amazing transformation in the last 12 years, and they encourage everyone to visit! Jim and Mary Beth have three kids in their 30s, living inWestchester County, Ann Arbor and Boston, plus three granddogs. ’86Dave Polakof, 400 E. 71st St., #3K, New York, NY 10021. david@dpolakof.com. Look for “Lehigh University Class of 1986” on both Facebook and LinkedIn. “Word to the wise, Mary. The best kind of reunion is one where you don’t know anyone.” (Lou Grant of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”) Pandemic cancellations meant our 35th reunion, plus one, uniquely synced with the 1985 and 1987 classes—a distinct window for schoolmates of “all those years ago” (George Harrison). Props to Jan (Panariello) Mansley and Kari (Hackbarth) Arienti, plus Jon Daniels, Sharon (Kanovsky) Richter, Judy (Lannin) Panagakos and Foti Panagakos, Rebecca (Shapiro) Sendel and the Lehigh staf and vendors for a very successful weekend. Ironically, Judy and Foti missed the reunion, having moved to Yakima, Wash. Pacifc Northwest University of Health Sciences named Foti the founding dean of its School of Dental Medicine. A retired major in the U.S. Army Reserve, Foti recently served as the associate dean for research and postdoctoral afairs at the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. Judy is a senior career coach at Early Stage Careers, following 30-plus years in human resources at JPMorgan Chase. Not to worry, we had standby dental expertise via Howard Goldstein, whose reunion appearance was brought to you by the good people at Reach dental foss, available in cinnamon, mint and original; waxed and unwaxed. Howard recommends “waxed,” as does Vincent Price. Angie and Gene Marks celebrated the marriage of their son, Sam, a CPA with PwC, a former varsity men’s soccer player while at the University of Pittsburgh, where he met his future bride. Their son Josh is a non-Lehigh mechanical engineer with HDR, and daughter, Leah, graduated from the Veterinary Hospital, University of Pennsylvania. Basking Ridge, N.J.’s Lorraine Heinen started with KPMG, followed by 27 years in corporate accounting at Chubb, fromwhom she accepted lovely parting gifts, once Chubb was acquired by ACE (that’s ACE Limited, not Ace Hardware). Neither Lorraine, Johnny Olson, Don Pardo or Johnny Gilbert revealed the parting gifts. Lorraine enjoys walking/ hiking, reading, visiting family and volunteering at the Morris Museum. During 2022, she took her two 20-something nieces to Paris (France, not Texas, I presume). Nancy (Caswell) Coward and TomCoward ’88, who have been residents of the Florida Keys for 24 years, sold their bed and breakfast in 2017. Nancy is a real estate agent with Keller Williams. They bought a 1985Westphalia (I guess they couldn’t fnd a 1957 Chevrolet 6800 Superior, which works out since they are not the Partridge family) and traveled cross-country during the pandemic. They haven’t quite reached Johnny Cash “I’ve Been Everywhere” status but have visited North Carolina, Shenandoah, Indiana Dunes and Great SmokyMountainNational Parks, Graceland, Ozark National Forest and Denver, where they met up with Rebecca (Shapiro) Sendel and Scott Sendel ’85, then the Oregon Trail route throughNebraska, Chicago, the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame and Niagara Falls. Travels resumed in summer 2022 to Colorado, Seattle and the San Juan Islands. Their son Kevin (Duke ’20) lives in Brooklyn and other son Brian (University of Virginia ’21) lives inWashington, D.C. Joy (Rosenberg) Horstmann and Carl Horstmann’s son Sam ’15 and wife moved east fromColorado, where he worked at Hubspot and is now vice president of operations at Mass Tank, where Carl is president, expediting Carl’s future exit transition. Joy retired from commercial real estate. Joy and Carl spent a 2022 month in Europe and rented a place in Rome (Italy, not New York, I presume) for this winter. Sadly, Theta Delta Chi’s David Cobb, of Darien, Conn., passed inMarch. David received 6 0 | L E H I G H B U L L E T I N
