N O T E S … remember those on Fridays with the faculty?! My wife, Mary, and I stayed in the massive new dorms located between Delta Upsilon and Taylor, and I counted 25 workout machines in the allglass gym on the bottom level of the center dorm with a view of the Lehigh Valley. I still say Drinker 2B was better! Thanks to Ann Cowin and honorary ’76er Tom Targoss, Tom Vogelsong and Cindy, Anne Fisher and David Abbott, YoGi and Anne, Jim Stewart and Eileen, along with Joe Sterrett and Cindy (Glueck) Sterrett, Allan Frank, Ron Williams and Robert Wyrough. Forgive me if I missed some classmates … send me a note. There were some with more pressing last-minute plans: Armin Vaihinger’s daughter, Kerry, just had her frst baby boy, Jude, and he diverted to Florida; Rick Spieth was fnishing employment in Israel for construction with CDM Smith; Amey (Mesko) Upchurch and David were on their way to the U.K. for some fun when COVID caught up with them and they had to cancel … she is fne now; John Bolebruch was having some surgery to mend some back issues and looks very forward to our 50th; Al Bovahad a last-minute commitment out of the state and tried to get there Saturday but just couldn’t. We missed you, Al! George Reifsnyder retired in June from Linde in Bufalo, N.Y., with other plans, and he mentioned that he and his wife, Marcia, did extensive global travel prior to the pandemic. Jim Stewart easily wins the distance award, as he came from his latest challenge with the Raifeisen Banking Group as the CEO of the Raifeisen Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo. Jim was appointed by the Raifeisen Bank of Romania, where he worked for over 25 years, and is a board member. He lived there with wife, Eileen, and three children (all adults in U.S. with children now). It was in spring 2021 that he was asked to handle Bosnia and will be retiring October 2022 to their home in Pennsylvania. Eileen and Jim are looking forward to their retirement trip on the Orient Express from Istanbul to Paris this fall. Cheers to all! ’77Ann Louise (Werley) Price, 2 Colton St., Farmington, CT 06032. (860) 677-1295 (H); prokemo@ comcast.net A great time was had by everyone at our 45th reunion! The weather was perfect, dinner in the Asa Packer Roomwith the Classes of ’75 and ’76 was fun— and the DJ had everyone up and dancing! There is way more news than can be included in this issue, so stay tuned! Diane Wolf reports that she is approaching her 45th anniversary working. She has started traveling again and will be making her second trip to St. John, U.S.V.I. She still is in touch with Carol Herzon-Loney, Sue (Seruga) Falotico ’77 and Tony Falotico ’77, Abbie Esterman’76 and Debbie (Stern) Heidecorn ’78 and David Heidecorn ’78. Carol Herzon-Loney still works in her private psychotherapy practice three days a week and gets to babysit her grandchildren, Rylee (4 years), Saige (2) and Emmett (2). Carol reports that “she is lucky to have my two daughters, Devin and Natalie, and their husbands living in Bethlehem and Allentown. My husband and I reside in Easton, Pa., and continue to enjoy traveling and are fortunate to continue to spend two weeks every February in St. Martin.” Beth and Larry DiSabatino split their time betweenWilmington, Del., and Bonita Springs, Fla. They have six grandchildren, with number seven on the way. Larry, along with his three sons, who all work with him, celebrated 40 years in business last year. A huge congratulations to Mark Shiner for being named the Alumni Award winner from our class this year for his immense dedication to Lehigh! Pat (Henry) Bodenstab was terrifc in garnering lots of news from reunion and reports: “I am retired from practicing law but periodically volunteer for Lawyer for the Day at the Salem District Court. I have recently worked on a lot of prenuptial agreements, for clients and the children of friends. Everyone wants protection! “I have started to travel again and, along with Gina Tarantini, went to the Dordogne Valley, France, in April. We spent a week with Linda Bondemore Oliver at her second home in Bordeaux before our two-week tour. Lots of wine, markets and foie gras! Our France tour was great—until I got COVID (triple vaxxed and no symptoms). I was booted from the tour but could still walk outside around the medieval towns and outdoor cafes. Gina was one of the few to stay healthy. “I have two daughters with Jef Bodenstab. Both girls went to Lehigh—Jennifer ’08, an IE engineer like Jef, and Kelsey ’10, a business major like me. (They are third generation, as Jef’s dad is a Lehigh engineer.) Kelsey and husband Andy (a Lehigh Chi Psi) recently made me a grandma and live in Idaho—I go by ‘Patsy.’ Maybe my grandson, Otto, will make it four generations.” Linda Bondemore Oliver lives in London with husband David (who she met in NYC after we graduated), travels constantly and has two sons, one living in NYC, the other an oil tanker broker in Singapore. GinaTarantini retired two years ago froma long career at IBM. She lives betweenher houses inClarks Summit, Pa., and Sarasota, Fla., where she is building a new home with sunset views over the water. She has hosted several Lehigh girls groups every year, including Pat HenryBodenstab, Donna Suess and Sue (McGovern) Zabor. I had fun catching upwithGina again after the reunion, when shewas up inConnecticut for the TravelersGolf Championship. Donna Suess lives in Bethlehem and retired as a hospice nurse. Her daughter, Kayla, lives in Ohio and is a professional musician. Steve Bartosik is always in charge of music and the band in our reunion Parade of Classes. He works as a drummer for Radio City Music Hall shows. Pretty cool! Chris (Cardello) Modero joined a few Lehigh girls the week before for dinner. She lives inMendham, N.J., and loves spending time in Cape May, Key West and Alexandria, Va., where her son lives. Their daughter lives in NYC and works for New York Historical Society. Stellan Thoren retired six years ago ... according to his plan. In the last years, he worked with nuclear power—frst as chief engineer at Westinghouse Electric, then as a consultant in his own company. Stellan writes, “My wife, Heidi, is retired as well. Now we spend a lot of time with our six (yet) grandchildren. We are just putting fnishing touches on a guest house at our second home in the countryside. We need a place to escape to when things get a bit too busy with visitors. Not running (or skiing, for that matter) anymore for health reasons. But head is still up and feet are still down, so who am I to complain? Met with Coach Covert and his wife, Carol, during the Reunion weekend. A small get-together with a few other runners. Nice to see them so up and about.” FA L L 2 0 2 2 | 5 5
