PAGE 30 LIBRARY AND TECHNOLOGY SERVICES - - - - - - - Plant Therapy Plant Therapy with Brown Skin Plant Mama: Facilitated by educator and therapy advocate Veronica Moore, 30 students were guided through self-re flection, creative activities, and medita tion, with a focus on the power of plants to enhance well-being. Each student received a philodendron plant, a pot they painted, and a journal to take with them. Transitions: Zines Marking Moments of Trans formation: In this collaboration with the Center for Gender Equity, students learned about the history of zines, created their own zine using one sheet of paper, and reflected on their transition to Lehigh. Special Collections held an accompanying pop-up exhibition of some of the zines in Lehigh’s collection for inspiration. Places & Spaces This summer, the rotunda flooring in Linderman Library was refinished and new furnishings were installed, enhancing the space’s grand elegance. Beyond its use as an inviting and tranquil study space, the rotunda hosts numerous university events, including Harvest of OTHER LIBRARY EVENTS Songwriting with Travis Hobbie: Local music teacher Travis Hobbie led thirteen first-year students in a rollicking lesson on songwriting, part of our month-long National Poetry Month cel ebration. Students worked and sang together to write a song in this interactive workshop. Douglass Day Transcribathon: Lehigh Libraries and the English Department participated in the Douglass Day virtual transcriba thon, an event held annually on abolitionist Frederick Douglass’ chosen birthday, February 14th, in which institutions around the world work on transcribing works by prominent Black Americans. This year’s transcribathon focused on Douglass’ correspondence, archived in the Library of Congress. Read & Grow: Children’s Storytime & Plant Therapy with Veronica Moore: Author, educator, and plant therapy advo cate Veronica Moore joined the Libraries to read from her newly published book, Rosie’s Special Gift, where young Rosie learns valuable life lessons about kindness, generosity, and community. Veronica also led a planting activity for the storytime’s child participants, bringing to life the book’s themes around nurturing plants and the magic and power of nature. RLC Her Film Screening: As part of the Marcon Institute’s Radical Love Conference, our librarians collaborated with ArtsQuest and the Center for Gender Equity to hold a free screening of the Oscar-winning film Her at a local movie theater. More than 50 participants from Lehigh and the local community attended the film and engaged in a lively post-screening discussion, reflecting on concepts of technol ogy, humanity, and love. Banned Books Panel: In partnership with the Lehigh University Pride Center, the Eastern PA Trans Equity Project, and the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce LGBTQ Business Council, the libraries hosted a panel of local leaders who discussed the nature and impact of book bans, as well as the social and political processes that lead to them.
