Faculty-authored books are also on display in the Linderman Library reading room. Special Collections and Library Exhibitions Lehigh Libraries Special Collections curated an exhibit featuring historic maps and atlases celebrat ing the gift of a number of rare books bequeathed to the Libraries by Lehigh alumnus Duncan Payne. The exhibit, Where Do We Go From Here?, included unique hand-colored maps in Linderman Library and reproductions of 30 city views from Braun’s atlases displayed in Fairchild-Martindale Library. The exhibit and associated programs aimed to increase aware ness of who we are and where we are headed, both in spirit and in the spaces we possess. The Lehigh Libraries hosted The Shadows of the 21st Century art exhibit by Shirin Lotfaliani ’24. Co-sponsored by the Center for Gender Equity and Student Affairs, the exhibition sought to raise aware ness about gender violence and the impact of these traumas on survivors’ lives through artistic expres sion and conversation. The exhibit was displayed in Fairchild-Martindale Library in late spring, with an artist discussion held in April. - - - - Duncan Payne exhibit In August, we hosted an Open House where new faculty could learn from library, CITL, technology, Digital Research & Scholarship, HPC, and Help Desk staff about a host of ser vices, creator spaces, and need-to-know resources available to them as they prepared for the fall semester. CITL hosted its annual Summer Workshop, this year provid ing faculty with opportunities to continue conversations and learn about Generative Artificial Intelligence. Greg Reihman, Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services, facilitated a discussion of considerations for the impact of this emerging technology on teaching and learning in fall 23 and strate gies for making use of AI in the classroom. Additionally, two hands-on sessions were held in the LTS Digital Media Studio computer lab, facilitated by CITL and library staff, to explore ChatGPT, DALL-E, and DataCamp, AI tools used to generate text, images, and computer code. CITL also hosted its annual Winter Workshop in January 2024 to help kickoff the spring semester. Workshop sessions again included a hands-on session to introduce generative AI tools including ChatGPT and DataCamp. The first meeting of the semester of the Generative AI Community of Practice was also held, during which numerous participants shared their current and ongoing uses of AI in the classroom. Additionally, the Instructional Technology team offered sessions and drop-in opportunities in advance of the upgrade to Course Site. CITL convened several Communities of Practice (COP) for faculty and staff including a New Faculty COP, two XR COP, and two Virtual International Exchange (VIE) COP, presented by Lehigh instructor Jessica Harbaum and Mussarat Shahid from Forman Christian College in the fall, and Professor Rudy Shankar, director of Lehigh’s Energy Systems Engineering program, in the spring. Twenty students explored “The Power of Questioning” during a 5x10 event in September. Through small group discussions, students practiced techniques to enhance learning, deci sion-making, and relationship-building with Lehigh community experts including a TRAC Fellow, digital scholarship specialist, a student robotics researcher, and an instructional technologist.
