P - AGE 26 LIBRARY AND TECHNOLOGY SERVICES - - Harvest of Ideas reception Harvest of Ideas On Thursday, October 26, 2023, the Friends of the Lehigh University Libraries hosted its 12th annual Harvest of Ideas reception in the Linderman Library Rotunda for faculty who published or edited a book or composition during the previous year. Greg Reihman, Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services, Boaz Nadav-Manes, University Librarian, Bill George, Chair of the Friends of Lehigh University Library Programming Committee, and Jasmine Woodson, Assistant University Librarian for Instruction and Outreach & Education Librarian, presided over the celebration. Reihman and Nadav-Manes opened the event by discussing the new LTS Strategic Plan, emphasizing its focus on strengthening support for research and scholarship as Lehigh continues to advance into inno vative and impactful research futures. George and Woodson reinforced this by highlighting the impor tance of community engagement and the societal significance of Lehigh’s breadth of research. The Faculty Authors collection represents a range of scholarly output, and this year’s additions include monographs, textbooks, a children’s book, short stories, poetry, and more by faculty from across Lehigh’s colleges. A copy of each book authored by OTHER EVENTS In October, faculty and staff had the opportunity to reconnect with LTS professionals, meet new team members, and learn about the latest tools, services, and resources. Highlights included updates on software, generative AI, Course Site tips, and a tour of the CITL Visualization Lab. In November, the inaugural Leh-Laf Hackathon brought together over 80 students from Lafayette College and Lehigh University to compete in coding projects focused on edu cation, infrastructure, safety, sustainability, or mental health. Sponsored by Amazon Web Services and supported by Lehigh’s Computer Science and Business honors program, the event challenged students to create impactful programs for the Lehigh Valley. Judged by faculty and technology professionals, the competition awarded hundreds of dollars in prizes, fostering innovation and collaboration between the two rival schools. Members of LTS leadership addressed over 40 faculty at the 2023-24 New Faculty Orientation on topics ranging from LTS essential services, library resources and outreach, technology services and support, and Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning resources and consultation services to help prepare faculty and students for a successful academic year. Dr. Greg Reihman, with students in his 5x10 session, “Thinking Through Technology.” Students explored how innovations like neuroimaging, virtual reality, AI, and social networking are reshaping how we view ourselves and the world. The session sparked discussions on reality, ethics, and identity, encouraging students to reflect on how these technologies influence our choices and future.
