The exhibit (of which a portion was held over in fall 2024) also included maps drawn by him, letters written between his family members, and examples of Miles’ work as both an astronomer and a surveyor displayed in Linderman Library with selected reproductions in Fairchild-Martindale Library. Associated events included a panel discussion sponsored by the Friends of the Lehigh Libraries; a tour of the Friedensville Zinc Mine led by com munity member Mark Connar; a meet and greet with descendents of Miles Rock; a coffee tasting to commemorate Miles’s ownership of a coffee farm in Guatemala; as well as class use. In April, more than 50 students, staff, and faculty gath ered at the LTS CIRCLE in Fairchild-Martindale Library for Remembering Jeanne: The Clery Act and Campus Safety, a panel discussion commemorating the life of Lehigh student Jeanne Clery, a gifted student and athlete who was tragically murdered in 1986 during her freshman year, and the significant improvements to campus safety that followed. The discussion included the introduction of the Clery Act, which mandates trans parency in campus crime reporting, and the ongoing efforts to enhance campus security. The discussion underscored the vital role of the Clery Act in shaping safer university environments nationwide. Panelists included Jessica Mertz, Executive Director of the Clery Center; Jason Schiffer, Assistant Vice President of Campus Safety and LUPD Chief of Police; Brooke DeSipio, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Survivor Support and Intimacy Education; and Samantha Haggert ’24, Intern, Center for Gender Equity (pictured right). Lehigh Giving Day+March Mania Experiential learning is an important part of the Lehigh experience. On Lehigh’s Annual Giving Day+March Mania Combined Challenge for Lehigh, friends, alumni, and colleagues helped us raise over $3,600 to provide more job opportunities in LTS for students to gain experience and professional skills, discover their passions, become leaders and expert problem solvers, and build resumes and grit for life after Lehigh. Gifts from 55 donors unlocked $500, courtesy of Greg Reihman, Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services, and free pizza for students at both libraries during finals. ▶ LEHIGH GIVING DAY +MARCH MANIA 48 hours 55 donors $3,662 raised 90 pizzas
