PAGE 33 ANNUAL REPORT 2022–2023 Retirements James Eshleman After a long and impactful career at Lehigh, Jim Eshleman retired from his position as Senior Systems Engineer in May. For over forty years, Jim was a dedicated fixture through substantial technological shifts, expansions, and organizational changes in LTS. He’s provided infrastructure support to many different teams since starting in 1982 as a member of the Systems Programming group, where he focused on administrative systems mainframe computers in what was then known as LUCC (Lehigh University Computing Center). Over the years, Jim's contributions were instrumen tal, especially in support of Enterprise Systems (ES), previously known as Administrative Systems. Jim held primary responsibility for managing ES systems on-site and played a crucial role in transitioning Banner to the Cloud as part of the Banner to the Cloud (B2C) team in June, 2020. - - - - - Jim's commitment was evident when he stepped up to assume the role of interim Systems Engineering manager in 2016. Always ready to assist, colleagues and clients alike appreciated his helpful and collaborative nature. In retirement, Jim is active and engaged, ded icating time to family and pursuits such as Astronomy, Electronics, and Amateur Radio Operation. Remarkably, since his retirement, he's established over one thousand contacts across 26 countries and 43 states. Gregory Skutches This summer, Greg concluded his 17-year career as a champion of peer tutoring in writing at Lehigh, having led what would become recognized as one of the most innovative programs in teaching and learning at the university. “As the founding director of the Writing Across the Curriculum program at Lehigh, he built the program into what it is today: a trusted place for faculty who are seeking to deepen student learning by rethinking and re-crafting their writing assignments and assessments,” said Greg Reihman, Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services. “His commit ment to the TRAC Fellows has helped them become exemplars of peer-learning at Lehigh. And his expertise in student-centered learning, authentic assessment, and impactful faculty development has been crucial to the broader success of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning.” The TRAC Fellows program set out to test innova tive approaches by including library and database research, multimodal communication, and new instruc tional technologies, together with proactive efforts in faculty development, and a fellows-driven model of organizational leadership. Under Skutches’ leadership, TRAC has served over 120 faculty and instructors, and approximately 10,000 students. Greg’s impact on students he mentored is perhaps his greatest legacy.
