In this hands-on session, students learned about the history of zines, how to create a zine using one sheet of paper, and reflect on their own transi tion to Lehigh as they “make-and-take” a zine. The students also viewed vintage examples from the Frank Lunney ‘73 Fanzine Collection for inspiration. Berman Art Walk: This session combined the documents in Special Collections’ Philip I. and Muriel Berman archive with the monumental outdoor sculptures donated to the University by the Bermans. This event exposed students to primary source research in understanding the history and provenance of the sculptures managed by the Lehigh University Art Galleries. Encountering New Worlds: First-year students embarked on a journey through centuries of cartographic history. Using intricately detailed maps dating between 1509 and 1621, this session explored how new lands were put on the map and the impacts these discoveries had in the world of science and philosophy. Greetings from South Mountain: Drawing on the con current library exhibit, No Postage Necessary: Views of the Postcard World: This event acquainted first-year students with the concept and practice of postcards. Beginning with an overview of postcard history, students were encouraged to read historic messages and were offered the opportunity to write and send a postcard of their own, many for the first time. read from her books IntersectionAllies: We Make Room for All and Love without Bounds: An IntersectionAllies Book about Families, creating a safe and engaging space for children — of all ages — to learn about important but complex topics like intersectionality, family differences, gender, race, and inequal ity. Participants then created art projects celebrating their individuality and their families. The Student Library Advisory Board (SLAB) met six times this academic year, during which student board members reviewed and provided valuable feedback on ideas for library spaces, potential new library resources, and student outreach. The Board saw their ideas come to fruition with a year-long bus marketing campaign for library news sources, and a highly successful “Blind Date with a Book” event where members purchased, wrapped, and described their favorite books for participants to choose based only on the provided text, fostering community and excite ment among Lehigh’s student readers. The current membership has numerous ideas for future events and expressed excitement to continue their work with Lehigh Libraries. Traveling Internationally While Black (Panel): In conjunction with Zoellner’s Traveling While Black installation and in part nership with Study Abroad, a panel of Lehigh students shared their experiences as they studied abroad, describing the joys, surprises, and challenges they encountered in their journeys, which spanned the globe from Ireland to the Dominican Republic to South Africa and beyond. Panelists included Hajer Sabil, Alleyna Jean-Philippe, Kareem Hargrove, Tino Chibvuri, and Oluwafunmbi Ojo.
