LEHIGH GIVING DAY 2021

LEHIGH GIVING DAY 2021 The Lehigh community is known for its loyalty, generosity . . . and for always rising to a challenge! That was proven yet again on Giving Day 2021, held on April 27, when donors challenged and inspired fellow alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, and friends to support the causes they care about. The challenge was met, thanks to the persistence and tenacity of the Lehigh Liners. They feverishly called and texted donors across the country, finally meeting the challenge with a buzzer-beater gift from a supportive parent in North Dakota! International Challenge Another challenge was made by vice president and vice provost for international affairs, Cheryl Matherly, and her husband, Steve Wilson, assistant provost for academic affairs and registration. The successful challenge aimed to help provide support for international students with financial hardships. They matched all gifts up to $1,500.  “I was proud that so many alumni and community members supported Lehigh’s international students by matching our challenge gift.” -Cheryl Matherly Class Affinity Challenge 67 The Class of 1967 won the Class Affinity challenge by having the highest number of donors of any class. This victory was in large part due to the matching challenges from D’Arcy Roper ’67 and William C. Cavanagh ’67. They challenged their classmates to continue their legacy by giving to the Class of 1967 Scholarship Fund, which they established to help future Lehigh students. The Soaring Together Challenge The women of Lehigh really came through: About a third of the matching challenges were from women. And when more than 500women gave on Giving Day, a $50,000gift was unlocked from Maria Chrin ’87 ’10, co-chair of GO: The Campaign for Lehigh and Board of Trustees member. Gifts toward the challenge were designated for the Women of Lehigh Scholarship Fund, established in honor of Soaring Together, a yearlong celebration of 50 years of coeducation at Lehigh.
