When we care deeply about something, when we know the world is better because of it, we take steps to ensure it thrives. An endowment preserves what we value while creating opportunities for growth and impact. At Lehigh, the endowment is not just the financial lifeblood; it reflects the values, memories, relationships, and aspirations that unite us. By building our endowment, we secure a bright future for generations of Lehigh students. While public discourse has scrutinized the role of higher education, Lehigh has never stood on firmer footing. The admissions office has received a record-breaking number of applications for two consecutive years. Your support has been instrumental in allowing Lehigh to admit the best students, regardless of their financial circumstances. In fiscal year 2024, more than 50% of undergraduates received financial aid and felt the pride of being awarded an endowed scholarship. This fall, the new Lehigh Commitment was launched to provide a full tuition grant to undergraduate students from families with a total income of less than $75,000. Expanding access to talented students strengthens the Lehigh community and enriches the experience for all. As key initiatives take shape around the university’s ambition and clear sense of purpose, momentum is building in every corner of campus. The implementation of Inspiring the Future Makers, Lehigh’s bold strategy, is well underway, and GO Beyond: The Campaign for Future Makers is achieving impressive results, having surpassed $918M toward our $1.25B fundraising goal. In these pages, you’ll learn more about the campaign, Lehigh’s endowment, and the farreaching impact of your support. As the outgoing chair of the Tower Society, it has been my privilege to work with you in service of Lehigh. I’m excited to pass the baton to the next generation of philanthropists as Kevin Clayton ’84 ’13P assumes the role of Tower Society chair. And while my role is changing, I remain committed to standing with you as we shape Lehigh’s future together. Thank you for your partnership in this journey and your unwavering commitment to this special place. With warmest regards, Mike Caruso ’67 Chair, Tower Society Cover: Students engage in rapid prototyping during Lehigh’s Hatchery program. The Baker Institute’s student idea accelerator is a six-week summer intensive designed to spark creativity, foster innovation, and ignite a passion for entrepreneurship. In fiscal year 2024, the endowment increased by 10.5%, net of all fees and expenses, leading to an ending value of $2.2 billion endowment and total assets under management. The strong one-year performance was largely due to the public equity markets’ returns. There were no major asset allocation changes, and our diversifying asset classes, absolute return and treasuries, have continued to generate solid absolute performance. For the year, public equity was the best-performing asset class, returning 20.7%, due to mega-cap and high-growth technology companies driving the returns of broad market indices. We also saw strong public market performance from our sector specialist managers. The absolute return portfolio was another bright spot, generating an 8.5% return and providing significant diversification benefits. The private equity portfolio underperformed long-term return expectations as venture capital continued to deal with a tough fundraising environment and lower valuations. However, buyout and growth equity strategies performed in line with expectations. The treasury portfolio performed well given our decision to shorten overall duration and capture an attractive yield opportunity as short-term treasury rates were higher than 5% for most of the fiscal year. The real estate portfolio outperformed its benchmark but was negative for the year, as the asset class continues to feel the impact of rising interest rates and major shifts in real estate supply-demand dynamics. Most important is the continued strength in our long-term absolute and relative performance. The long-term portfolio has returned 9.4% over five years and 7.8% over 10 years, net of all fees and expenses. Not only have these returns eclipsed our absolute return target, but they have also outperformed relative benchmarks, such as a “60/40” portfolio. It is also notable that due to growth in the long-term portfolio, the annual payout to the university will be over $100 million for fiscal year 2025. As we enter fiscal year 2025, we remain vigilant of the current market environment. The endowment retains its flexibility with an appropriate cash balance and by monitoring potential opportunities to take advantage of declining rates and market volatility. Thank you for your ongoing support of the Lehigh endowment and the very important role it plays in advancing Lehigh’s strategic priorities and programs. Kristin Agatone Chief Investment Officer 3

6 GO BEYOND: THE CAMPAIGN Adding more than $324 million to the endowment’s principal, Go Beyond: The Campaign for Future Makers has already left a multi-generational imprint on Lehigh’s future. The 328 endowed scholarships established since the start of the campaign make Lehigh more accessible to talented and deserving students. A shining example is the Soaring Together Scholarship Program, which combines a full-tuition scholarship with opportunities for experiential learning and alumni mentorship. The highly competitive program, created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of coeducation at Lehigh, is helping to shape the Lehigh community by bringing top students to campus. One year into Inspiring the Future Makers, Lehigh’s bold strategy is producing tangible outcomes across campus. The renovation of the Clayton University Center at Packer Hall is rapidly nearing completion, and new programs like the Compelling Perspectives speaker series have strengthened community bonds while fostering respectful discourse. Graduate and doctoral programs are evolving, showcasing Lehigh’s leadership in reimagining higher education. Meanwhile, six endowed chairs and the Kevin L. and Lisa A. Clayton College of Business deanship, all established in the campaign, continue to elevate Lehigh’s formidable academic and research capabilities. This momentum and its impact on the student experience has not gone unnoticed. The Wall Street Journal ranked Lehigh #15 among the top 500 universities in the country, with student outcomes cited as a driving factor. The endowment is the foundation that fuels this progress and makes our aspirations possible. Your impact on Lehigh’s endowment has been, in a word, transformational. Through collective action and a shared sense of purpose, this community has built a strong endowment that ensures we are always ready to meet the moment. And this is Lehigh’s moment. Thank you for your unwavering support. Lehigh’s future is ours for the making. Let’s GO Beyond! ENDOWMENT PERSPECTIVE When Asa Packer founded Lehigh University in 1865, he realized that a solid financial base was necessary if his vision was to transcend generations. His $3 million initial endowment fund, Lehigh’s first, is now one of the largest funds in Lehigh’s $1.873 billion endowment. Packer’s fund has been joined by almost 3,000 other endowments. Together, they advance Lehigh’s strategic priorities and the programs you care so deeply about. Consider the ways in which endowment has an impact: Endurance. The endowment is one of Lehigh’s most powerful financial tools. Your support sustains the educational mission of the university and creates a legacy for generations to come. Quality and Reputation. A gift to Lehigh’s endowment, particularly one supporting financial aid and scholarship, ensures that the most talented students have access to a distinctive Lehigh education. This increases the quality of Lehigh’s academic profile and reputation. Prestige. Named endowed funds allow Lehigh to recognize the generosity of the donors who make them possible. They also carry great honor for the beneficiaries, who put their knowledge and expertise to work to expand our impact as a university. Agility. When continuous resources are provided by an endowment, annual budget dollars become available to pursue ideas and innovations, allowing Lehigh to remain competitive and thrive in today’s rapidly changing world. External research partnerships provide hands-on learning experiences. Students in LU e-NABLE, Lehigh’s Enabling the Future organization, are collaborating with an international nonprofit to develop an upper-limb prosthesis with increased functionality and affordability. 8
VALUE OF THE ENDOWMENT Fiscal year ending June 30, 2024 In the past 10 years, the university’s endowment experienced growth based on donor support and investment return net of operating distributions. During this period, the market value has increased from approximately $1.208 billion on June 30, 2015, to $1.873 billion on June 30, 2024. While the $79.7 million of distributed earnings from the university endowment must be used according to the specified purpose of each fund, the payout touches all areas of the university and demonstrates the ongoing commitment to financial aid with more than 46% of the university’s donor-restricted endowment designated for scholarships and fellowships. In fiscal year 2024, institutional financial aid was provided to 55% of undergraduate students, with an average needbased award of $44,824. 10 Fiscal year ending June 30, 2024 ENDOWMENT OVERVIEW Endowment Management Lehigh’s Investment Office manages the day-to-day operations of the investment program. The office is under the fiduciary oversight of the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees and is led by the chief investment officer. There are three primary objectives in the management of the endowment. Financial Objective The chief financial objective of the investment program is to preserve and, if possible, enhance the real purchasing power of the endowment principal to ensure the university’s financial future. The endowment must strike a balance between preserving principal in real terms for perpetuity and supporting the university’s current operating needs. Investment Objective To achieve the financial objectives of the investment program, the investment goal of the endowment is to generate a real return of 5% annualized (net of inflation) over the long run. This goal is expected to allow the university to grow the endowment principal to support future generations’ needs and to maintain its current spending objective, which supports near-term university operations. Set by the Finance Committee and Investment Committee, the asset allocation of the endowment will be the primary driver of its performance over time. While the Finance Committee and Investment Committee set the asset allocation policy, the Investment Office is responsible for the implementation of the policy and the day-to-day management of the endowment. Spending Objective The endowment will transfer to the university’s operating fund annually 5% of the 12 quarters’ moving average market value of the endowment. On a per-unit basis, the transfer will result in a minimum and maximum annual increase of -2% and 5%, respectively. The spending distribution from each endowment fund is used to support the purpose specified in the endowment agreement between the donor and the university. The university’s endowment earned 10.5% for fiscal year 2024, net of all fees and expenses. The policy benchmark is a weighted average of market indexes that represent each asset class in the endowment’s policy asset allocation. The Global 60/40 portfolio is defined as 60% MSCI ACWI index and 40% Barclays Aggregate index. 11 At EUREKA! Pitch Nights, student entrepreneurs shine as they present bold ideas to a panel of judges. Hosted by The Baker Institute, these Shark Tank-inspired evenings generate funding and mentorship opportunities for innovative student projects. Target Asset Allocation Percentages ASSET CLASS FISCAL YEAR 2024 RETURN FISCAL YEAR 2024 TARGET ALLOCATION COMMENTARY Public Equity 21 37 The Public Equity portfolio was the highest contributor as the global equity market continued to benefit from outperforming mega-cap technology and growth companies. Like last year, the increase in these stocks has largely been driven by demand for AIrelated technologies and the supporting infrastructure. Private Equity 5 30 The Private Equity portfolio performed below long-term return expectations as venture capital managers dealt with a difficult fundraising environment and minimal valuation increases, except for a small group of outperforming companies and the previously mentioned AI-related technologies. Buyout and growth equity managers performed well compared to the broader private equity benchmark. Absolute Return 8 20 The Absolute Return portfolio was a consistent contributor to performance despite some volatile periods in the global markets. The portfolio is structured to be highly uncorrelated to markets and achieved positive performance across each of the subportfolios including hedge funds, credit, and opportunistic strategies. Real Estate -4 5 - The Real Estate portfolio outperformed its benchmark but still saw negative perfor mance due to high interest rates and shifting supply-demand dynamics. The largest exposure is to industrial and multi-family, with industrial performing especially well. Treasuries & Cash 5 8 The Treasuries and Cash portfolio was positive as the short-term treasury yields were above 5% for most of the fiscal year. The portfolio was set up to capitalize on the meaningful yield the market provided. This will be reevaluated as rate cuts are expected over the next year.
12 Endowment Gift Expands Access to Global Learning: THE MAIDA EDUCATION ABROAD GRANTS For students to change the world, they first have to experience it. Through the Iacocca Institute’s global programming and related international learning initiatives, students travel with faculty during winter and summer breaks, conduct research overseas, and study abroad for a semester or academic year. While these experiences develop cultural competency, financial barriers unfortunately prevent some students from participating. Expanding access to global learning was important to generous Lehigh benefactors Sharon and James Maida ’85 ’17P ’19P, whose $2 million endowment gift to establish the Maida Education Abroad Grants has made it possible for students with high financial need to study, intern, research, or serve communities around the world. James and Sharon are opening doors for students who may have never dreamed of experiencing the world through international education. —Carol Packard, Vice President, Development and Alumni Relations The Maida Education Abroad Grants will create a seamless pathway for students in the Passport to Success program, which assists those from underrepresented backgrounds or with significant financial need. Once students complete the program, they can apply for a Maida Education Abroad Grant to participate in one of many prestigious international leadership programs offered through Lehigh and the Iacocca Institute.
The gift also creates great momentum to unlock the $4 million matching gift from the Iacocca Family Foundation to the Iacocca Institute and an additional $1 million matching gift to support Lehigh’s global initiatives. “It’s important to Sharon and me that every student have the opportunity to learn about the world through international education,” Maida said. “We were inspired to create this endowment after talking with Dr. Henry Odi about the Passport to Success program.” “The Maidas’ unwavering commitment is transforming education at Lehigh University,” said Odi, deputy vice president for equity and community and associate provost for academic diversity. “They both believe that the next generation of leaders, regardless of their background, must have a well-integrated education that includes global experience.” James and Sharon Maida are long-standing philanthropic leaders at Lehigh, and James also serves on the Board of Trustees. Members of the 1865 Society and the Tower Society, they have provided for the Lehigh Fund, established scholarships, and launched numerous initiatives to benefit students. In addition to funding global learning experiences in perpetuity, their latest contribution also endowed a previously established current-use scholarship for local high school students to attend Lehigh. It’s a gift with a direct throughline to the future and an example of the power of endowment support. “James and Sharon are opening doors for students who may have never dreamed of experiencing the world through international education,” said Carol Packard, vice president of development and alumni relations. “Their dedication to creating opportunities that foster personal growth, cultural understanding, and global leadership is inspiring, and their impact on the Lehigh community will be felt for generations. We are so grateful for their enduring service and generosity.” James Maida ’85 ’17P ’19P and Sharon Maida ’17P ’19P 13
14 A Legacy of Learning and Leading the World: ESTATE GIFT SHAPES THE FUTURE OF THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
15 Earning his accounting degree in the 1960s was just the beginning for Barry Haacke ’64. Lehigh helped lay the foundation for his international career in business, financial and project management, and strategic planning. Haacke worked for global banking, development, and consulting firms in the U.S., Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, but he never forgot his Lehigh roots. He passed away on August 12, 2021, at the age of 78, leaving an enduring legacy through an estate gift of $6 million to support the College of Business. From his student experience, Haacke knew that the intellectual rigor and practical, hands-on approach of the College of Business is what shapes bold innovators, astute problem-solvers, and global leaders. His philanthropy and planning will grant the college flexibility in the ways it prepares students to GO Beyond in whatever competitive industries they might enter in the future. Planned gifts have the power to shift steady progress into a surge of strategic momentum. Haacke’s generosity is being realized during an exciting moment for the College of Business. In September 2024, Lehigh officially installed Manoj K. Malhotra as the Kevin L. and Lisa A. Clayton Dean following the retirement of Georgette Chapman Phillips. Malhotra is excited to build on the college’s momentum. “I look forward to leading Lehigh Business on its upward ascent of being recognized as a highly regarded comprehensive center of business and education research with international prestige and stature,” he says. He envisions the College of Business as an “edifice with five pillars:” undergraduate programs, graduate programs, the Ph.D. program, faculty research and excellence, and executive education. Haacke’s gift will be pivotal to furthering his vision, which aligns with the university’s Inspiring the Future Makers strategy. Sixty years stand between Haacke’s graduating class and the current generation of students, but their paths intersect today because of their common experience in the College of Business. Both are generations of boundary breakers that encourage and facilitate learning beyond disciplines, borders, and classroom walls. Because of Haacke’s generous foresight, students 60 years from now will thrive in a future that feels the force of Lehigh business leaders. This is the power of planned giving. Its impact is transcendent.

The Tower Society represents the bedrock of philanthropy at Lehigh. It recognizes those generous alumni and friends who make a gift to support Lehigh’s mission with a confirmed bequest, by participation in the life income program, or by creating an endowed fund. The Tower Society includes the university’s most long-standing, dedicated benefactors and serves as a living reminder of how the past — and the present — can provide for the future. We are enormously grateful to everyone who has contributed to Lehigh over the years. Your enduring support provides a source of stability and strength to fulfill the bold ambitions of the university. We thank you for your support and everything you make achievable. 18
