GRADUATE PROGRAMS COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES / HISTORY / PAGE 13 How to Apply • Please review the College application requirements and submission instructions on page 1. • The GRE is required for the Ph.D. program and highly encouraged for the master’s program. MA applicants can choose to send two writing samples instead of the GRE and a single writing sample. • Please include a historiographical essay or research paper in your application submission. Writing samples that demonstrate an interest in transnational history are particularly encouraged. • Applications and all supporting materials are due by January 1 for fall enrollment. Financial Aid The Department is committed to helping you fund your graduate education. Incoming MA students benefit from various forms of financial aid and support, including scholarships, TAships, and fellowships. Upon admission, Ph.D. students normally receive five to six years of full financial support, primarily in the form of fellowships and TAships. Other funds support student travel to archives and conferences as well as language study. Department Contact Dr. Nitzan Lebovic, Graduate Director nil210@lehigh.edu Research Statement Lehigh is an R1 research institution in which the Department of History is the only academic unit wholly dedicated to doctoral-level social inquiry. Our faculty and graduate students pursue first-rate historical scholarship concerned with all regions of the world and a variety of historical periods. The overall emphasis of research in the Department is on transnational history. Students are invited to participate actively in the research culture of the Department, including through participation in the Department Seminar, where faculty and graduate students meet regularly to discuss work in progress by both Lehigh historians and visiting historians from all over the world.
