CAS Graduate Viewbook 2023

A Message from the Associate Dean Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Lehigh University. Increasingly, a graduate degree is critical to skill development, career enhancement, and intellectual growth. Most importantly, graduate studies will allow you to begin to contribute to the important work of knowledge creation by applying your educational experiences to solving current scientific, social, and cultural problems. Our vision for graduate education in the College is to foster a scholarly environment among a highly collaborative community. Here, you will develop close mentoring relationships with faculty who are personally invested in your success. My most rewarding work has been mentoring Ph.D. students toward fulfillment of their goals in my Auditory Neuroscience research lab. As Associate Dean, I have also had the privilege of working with graduate students from across the College. Regardless of your field of choice, in the CAS you will find enthusiastic faculty and ample resources to help you realize your aspirations. Our exceptional mentoring is nested in a research environment that is resourced to allow you to perform at the top levels of your field. Our graduates go on to excellent positions in the private sector and top research institutions worldwide. As a nationally-ranked research university, Lehigh provides students with state-of-the-art facilities while maintaining program sizes that allow close collaboration between faculty and students. Financial support for high-achieving CAS graduate students is available through scholarships, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships, which are funded by an annual $12 million in federal grant awards from agencies including the NIH, NSF, NASA, DOE, and beyond. Nestled directly into the side of South Mountain and overlooking historic Bethlehem, PA, our world-famous campus architecture shares its spaces with a culturally rich and vibrant community, creating the ideal environment for inspired minds. Bethlehem is close to both New York City and Philadelphia, and features affordable housing, excellent restaurants, and countless festivals and entertainment options close to campus.
