54 | LEHIGH ALUMNI BULLETIN | CLASS NOTES NYC via power line trails and rail trails; and forthcoming this summer, the Denver Metropolitan area and the Finger Lakes.” And finally, from Denis Nadas, in response to a question from Jim Ruhl: “No, I am not a race fanatic! The only overnight biking trips I have done were several one-week guided/ supported, starting with a 2001 ride from Buffalo to Schenectady along the Erie Canal, 2014 bicycle tour of the Rockies, 2016 Biking the Maze in Canyonlands (Utah), 2017 Great Big FANY Ride (500 miles across New York (Niagara Falls to Saratoga), and 2019 Back-Country Idaho Hot Springs Ride. My wife and I did a one-week bike and boat trip in Germany in 2018 and a one-week bike and boat trip from Ghent, Belgium, to Amsterdam. The biggest oneday ride I did was in June 2014 with a friend, from my home in Niskayuna through Albany and Williamstown, Mass., to North Adams, Mass., up to the top of Mt. Greylock, Mass., down the other side, connecting with Williamstown for the return ride to Niskayuna. It took more than 12 hours and totaled about 120 miles and involved 11,000 feet of climbing. Some of my favorite rides near home are in the Glenville hills off Route 5, west of Scotia and east of Amsterdam, such as Wolf Hollow Road, and Washout Road. Some very steep hills abound there! In the summer, we live in our simple cabin at the south end of Schroon Lake, and I do hilly rides several times a week with my summer biking friends. I often bike with my wife—sometimes on bike paths—but sometimes on hilly rides where she zips up the hills on her ebike (which she needs because of two torn meniscus surgeries on each knee!). ’66 James A. Greg O’Brien provided the following: “After serving as president of three universities for over thirty years, wife Mary and I retired to Destin, Fla. We spend summers at a cottage on Vinalhaven Island in Maine and fall/winters cruising, visiting grandchildren, and [I do] a little consulting. In 2021, we moved to Ponte Vedra, Fla. (Jacksonville), to be near our older daughter who is on staff at the nearby Mayo Clinic. We spend more time with our Florida grandchildren, but our downsized house and daughter’s family living nearby give plenty of space for our California daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren to join us annually for Christmas/Hanukkah. We continue to cruise and travel and hope to add to our list of over 100 countries visited while we are both young and energetic.” Young and energetic?! Herb Green reported that he served 42 years for the School District of Philadelphia as a mathematics and computer science teacher, academic department head supervising 22 teachers and professional development leader. He earned a doctorate and is a mathematics education associate professor at Temple University. As first master teacher, he helped establish the TUteach Program to train math/science majors to teach in high-needs high schools from 2008 to present. Blair Smith also provided an update. “Since moving to Houston in 1977, I [worked] brokering commercial properties for clients and my own account until late 1999 when we moved about an hour north toward Dallas to a small but growing gated golf community on 22,000-acre Lake Conroe. I have continued to practice real estate buying, selling and brokerage work on my own schedule in between rounds of golf on our three courses. I have been very fortunate Featuring a keynote presentation by Jackie Joyner-Kersee, world’s greatest female athlete of the 20th century.
