A good example of this approach from my own work comes from the Landscape Architecture program at the University of Virginia, where we have committed to community engagement as an essential component of design education. Our students work with communities across the Commonwealth of Virginia and along the East Coast, engaging with placebased challenges through sustained partnerships that emphasize listening, trust-building, and shared learning. In Apalachicola, Florida, a small coastal city facing intersecting challenges related to climate vulnerability, economic transition, and community identity, we applied this same framework. Rather than beginning with predefined solutions, we worked closely with local residents, city staff, and Student work. UVA School of Architecture.
