The following were reported to us as of April 30, 2024: 1940s Walter E. Margie ’44, Bethlehem, Pa., Jan. 15, 2024. A Sigma Chi member, Margie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an internal medicine doctor for over 50 years. Robert M. Fuller ’49, Hilton Head Island, S.C., Dec. 12, 2023. Fuller was a Theta Delta Chi member and U.S. Army veteran. He worked in life insurance and investment planning. 1950s James J. Armstrong Jr. ’50, Hamilton, N.J., March 14, 2024. Armstrong was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Delta Sigma Phi member and worked as an attorney for 48 years. Walter G. Hagenbuch ’50 M.A. ’53, Dorchester, Mass., Feb. 24, 2024. A veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and member of the Marching 97, Hagenbuch made his career as a science educator. Paton Lewis Jr. ’50, Minneapolis, Minn., Feb. 26, 2024. Lewis was a dentist and orthodontist. He served in that capacity during the Korean War before setting up a private practice. Theodore Madfis ’50, West Hartford, Conn.., Jan. 24, 2024. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, Madfis was a Pi Lambda Phi member. He worked for the family meat-packing businesses. His grandchild, Andrew Salner ’04, is a member of the Lehigh family. John M. Tomasic ’50, Hilton Head Island, S.C., Jan. 18, 2024. Tomasic was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Leonard J. Bachman ’51, Media, Pa., Jan. 15, 2024. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Bachman was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He worked for Bell Telephone for 33 years. Edward D. Parsons Jr. ’51, Essex, N.Y., April 7, 2024. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Parsons went on to fly for United for 32 years. Edward T. Schmitt ’51, Stroudsburg, Pa., Jan. 8, 2024. Schmitt worked as a mechanical engineer for Western Electric, RCA and General Electric. Ira G. Epstein ’52, Salisbury, Md., Dec. 16, 2023. Epstein was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Tau Delta Phi. He was a chemical engineer at Dupont and held several patents. Walter J. Foster ’52 ’53, Fort Meyers, Fla., Dec. 18, 2023. Foster served in the U.S. Army after graduation. He worked for Continental Can Company, retiring as the vice president of manufacturing and technology. Peter J. Ginesi ’52, Hellertown, Pa., Feb. 15, 2024. A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, Ginesi was a member of the 1950 undefeated football team and Lambda Chi Alpha. He was the owner and president of a Hershey’s Ice Cream distribution facility in New Jersey. Peter B. Seasholtz ’52, Newtown Square, Pa., Feb. 26, 2024. Seasholtz was a member of Phi Delta Theta and the freshman football team. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. His professional career as an engineer included positions with General Electric and the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency. His child, Matthew Seasholtz, is a member of the Class of 1981. George Skorinko ’52, Palmerton, Pa., Feb. 20, 2024. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Skorinko taught at Brooklyn College CUNY. Robert J. Szakmeister ’52, Whitehall, Pa., March 5, 2024. Szakmeister was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Emil G. Hamburg ’53, Melcroft, Pa., Feb. 20, 2024. A member of the track team, Hamburg served in the U.S. Army before going on to work in research and development with several steel companies. Grant Hansel Jr. ’53, Lancaster, Pa., Dec. 27, 2023. Hansel was a member of the undefeated 1950 football team, as well as Delta Upsilon and the Glee Club. He spent 50 years as general manager and president of Henry S. Wolkins Co., managing the sale and installation of furniture and equipment for schools. James R. McKnight ’53, Severn, Md., March 31, 2024. McKnight served in the U.S. Army. His sibling, George McKnight, was a member of the Class of 1944. George G. Scott Jr. ’53, Panama City, Fla., Feb. 10, 2024. Scott was a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. He worked for US Steel and in the wire rope and cable industry. Robert O. Soper ’53, Moorestown, N.J., March 29, 2024. Soper was a member of the Marching 97. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in Japan. After discharge, he joined the family business, J.G. Ott Packagings, and rose to president. Joseph M. Workman ’53 ’54, Bethlehem, Pa., April 11, 2024. Workman was a member of the basketball team and president of Alpha Tau Omega. He served in the U.S. Air Force after graduation. His 33-year career with Bethlehem Steel culminated in founding and managing the company’s first business planning function. He was a force in his volunteer work for Lehigh, serving with the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees and as the president of his class for over 25 years. For his services, he received the Young Alumnus Award in 1968, the Eugene Gifford Grace 1899 Award in 2003, the George F.A. Stutz ’22 Award in 2007, the Senior Alumni Council Meritorious Award in 2011 and the Joseph J. Persa ’48 Award in 2018. He was the first recipient in 1981 of the Men’s Basketball 6th Man Award. He was proud to have attended 70 Lehigh-Lafayette football games. Over 18 years in his second career, he worked for the Lehigh University Development Office as director of the annual fund, then its capital campaign for “Preserving the Vision” and finally in international fund raising. He was a member of the Asa Packer and Tower societies. His son-in-law, Andrew McIntyre, is a member of the Class of 1980. William A. Haase ’54, Jamesville, N.Y., March 7, 2024. Haase was a member of the baseball and basketball teams, the Marching 97 and Pi Kappa Alpha and was the editor-in-chief of The Brown and White. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, before making his 39-year career with General Electric as a marketing communications manager. He was a member of the Asa Packer and Tower societies and was recognized with the Alumni Award in 2014. Roy A. Hopkins ’54, South Abington Township, Pa., March 19, 2024. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, Hopkins wrote the electrical engineering curriculum at the International Correspondence School and worked for the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
