AlumniBulletin-Summer24-interactive

74 | LEHIGH ALUMNI BULLETIN | CLASS NOTES sappy yet. I’ll save that for later down the line. For now, let’s hear what the wonderful Class of 2026 students are up to this summer! Charlie Sheerin, a mechanical engineering major, will be spending his summer interning with the Navy. Charlie will be working for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division, in the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. His official title for the summer: a federal contractor employed by SaxmanOne as an NREIP (Naval Research Enterprise internship program) intern. Charlie says he’s always been a “patriotic guy” and wanted to help serve the country in any way he could. While he sees himself possibly working in the military in the future, he’s excited for the opportunity to learn more this summer. He looks forward to the machines and resources available to the American military, as they are of an unimaginable scope and “not things you’d get to work with in every internship.” Due to security clearances and branch assignments still pending, Charlie is not exactly sure what he will be doing, and he’s happy that this internship permits a more flexible schedule. Charlie, from New Jersey, will be able to individually schedule and do hybrid work, which he says was important for his summer. Good luck to you, Charlie. Don’t let us Mountain Hawks down! Charlotte Harobin will be spending her summer doing something I think we will all be jealous of—spending time with animals. Specifically, she will be interning with the conservation education internship at the Philadelphia Zoo! Charlotte will be engaging in animal observation, education and conservation as well as participating in research opportunities for the zoo, through educating guests on animal conservation and overall sustainability. Originally from Fort Washington, Pa., Charlotte is an environmental studies major, so this internship will help give her experience and new opportunities. At the zoo, Charlotte says she looks forward to facilitating guests’ immersion and interaction with the animals so they feel like they have learned something and have a part to play in animal conservation. Outside of her studies, she is a T.R.A.C. fellow, a member of the club swim team and a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. Let’s wish her a great time on this exciting internship, and maybe we’ll get to see a few pictures of the cute animals! And last but not least, we have another Charlotte! Charlotte Busch-Vogel, a global health major with a minor in psychology, will be spending two weeks in London interning for a mental health retreat. She will be working at the SilverBell Mental Health Retreat in North Hampton, United Kingdom, alongside clinicians and practitioners in psycho-educational workshops and discussions. Charlotte says she is eager to learn more about this holistic approach and learn about the impacts of spirituality and relaxation on trauma, joy and the nervous system. As a community health major, she said she is excited for the opportunity not only to travel, but to learn more through her work. That’s all for now! As always, email me abr226@ lehigh.edu to be featured in the next column for the Class of 2026. Until then, peace out, Mountain Hawks. ’27 Ava Koslowsky, ask227@lehigh. edu and Sydney Floch, sff227@lehigh.edu Hi! Welcome to the Class of 2027’s column. We are Ava Koslowsky and Sydney Floch, co-authors who are incredibly excited to share with you our class’ stories. We come from 46 states and 30 countries around the world, but are all united by one common thread – our shared love for Lehigh. Throughout the years and writing this page, we hope to find even more connections and develop memories with our classmates (next fall especially, as we hope to celebrate together as we beat Lafayette). Before we begin, we’d like to introduce ourselves. I, Ava Koslowsky, am from Westfield, N.J. I am hoping to successfully transfer into the business school and major in marketing with a minor in journalism. I am currently an associate community editor and reporter for The Brown and White. I am a new member of the sorority Alpha Phi and an active member in the Best Buddies and Community Growers club. I love playing the guitar and singing and have a passion for traveling. Although it’s only my freshman year I already am in love with Lehigh and have been having the best time here. I’ve already made friendships that will last a lifetime. I am so thrilled to be a part of this community and to be a voice for my class. I, Sydney Floch, am from Old Greenwich, Conn., currently hoping to pursue a major in journalism and a minor in psychology. I am a part of The Brown & White and currently serve as one of the newspaper’s associate news editors and an anchor for the broadcast. I also love playing on Lehigh’s club tennis team as well as meeting people in and out of my sorority, Kappa Delta. I love to travel and meet new people, which is such a large part of why I’m thrilled to be writing my class’s notes. Lehigh is unlike anywhere else I’ve been, and I am so excited to share my developing love for this place and its people with you all. Drew Smith is from San Mateo, Calif., with freshly cleaned eyeglasses and a completely shattered iPhone always in hand. He has absolutely adored his time at Lehigh so far, and truly plans to make the most of it as he is involved in a plethora of extracurriculars as a tour guide, orientation leader, and Student Senate’s next and youngest president! He describes Lehigh as a very warm place–even warmer than California (though he describes the people as warm and welcoming, not necessarily the temperature). “Everyone here holds the door open for just a little too long. No matter who you are or where you are, someone will take the time out of your day to do that for a stranger,” Drew said. Smith’s term as the youngest Student Senate president began in the spring. He is involved in student leadership to directly impact campus. He is a part of the allocations committee controlling over a $500,000 dollar budget. Graduate College of Business Melissa Wright MBA ’18 shared, “In April 2024, I started as an attorney with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, P.C. in San Francisco, Calif. In this role, I will continue to do corporate work in the technology space with a focus on emerging companies and venture capital in climate tech. I am thrilled to start this new chapter back in the Bay Area!”
