CLASS NOTES | FALL 2024 | 59 pare her for this business, going to school mostly with men did. Lam Geotechnics is now a leading geotechnical company with over a hundred professionals serving customers throughout Hong Kong and Asia. Check out lamgeo.com! She recently passed on the helm to her nephew, allowing her and her husband to spend some time together in retirement. I recently connected with Dave Auperin (Alpha Sigma Phi), who retired from his research scientist career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Pfizer Global Research and Development. Dave and wife Kathy live in North Easton, Mass., where Dave is giving back to higher education as an adjunct professor in biology and microbiology at Massasoit Community College. During summers, Dave and Kathy enjoy their passion of sailing on Narragansett Bay. In the winter, they enjoy skiing in New England. Dave has four adult children and four grandchildren all living close by in Connecticut. He is enjoying his years of retirement. After graduation, Steven Einstein went to law school, then got his LLM in tax law. After a judicial clerkship and brief period in private practice, he headed to Wall Street to work mainly in mergers and acquisitions. On Wall Street, he worked at several top investment banking firms, and also worked in private equity and venture capital. He’s now winding down his professional work. He and his life partner, Jan, live in Connecticut and have a second home in Longboat Key, Fla. Steve has three grown children. Interesting fact: Steve and I were on the same floor in Dravo dorm in freshman year. I traded emails with fellow Kappa Sig Dan Grgurich, who is enjoying the retired life in Charlotte, N.C., with his wife, Mary Lou (Rogers). Dan stays busy golfing, restoring a 1963 Studebaker Avanti, and going on an occasional long-distance run. He and Mary Lou enjoy traveling and volunteering with the Assistance League, a nonprofit that benefits needy children in the community. Dan also hosts a yearly Zoom call with most of the Kappa Sig ’76ers. Another interesting fact: I was badly injured in an accident eight years ago, losing my kidneys, among other things. When Dan heard that I had a bunch of friends and family try and fail to qualify to donate a kidney to me, he quickly tried to qualify, too. Though he was eventually rejected, he spent two days in the hospital going through dozens of tests. (It’s hard to qualify to receive a kidney transplant. It’s harder to qualify to be a donor ….) My memory may not be as sharp as it was, but I don’t remember where it says that fraternity brothers are expected to donate kidneys to each other. Thank you, Dan! On a final note, after Lehigh, I served 22 years in the Marine Corps (active and reserve) then worked at Merrill Lynch for 35 years, retiring last August. Jill (my wife of 48 years) and I are aboard our 38-foot trawler doing the Great Loop. We have three grandkids, with number four due soon! I have actually run out of room. What a great problem to have! Send a brief comment to our joint email address above and Jamie or I will get you in! ’77 Ann Louise (Werley) Price, 2 Colton St., Farmington, CT 06032. (860) 677-1295 (H); prokemo@comcast.net Joe Diorio retired in 2020 from FM Global after 43 years. Joe was an assistant vice president-senior engineering specialist, and enjoyed working in the Lehigh Valley as an engineer for all those years. Actually, Lehigh was one of his clients, and he was involved in many building projects on campus and worked directly with the engineering group for years. Joe and wife Liane have been married for 45 years and have two daughters, both of whom graduated from Lehigh. Julie graduated in 2004 and is currently the executive director of supply chain management at Merck, and Cara graduated in 2007 and is vice president of communications at Marcolin Eyewear. Joe and Liane have two grandchildren. Joe sees Rod Gardner, Ken Schmidt and Glenn Willard at the football games. Dean Konner officially attended his 50th Lehigh-Lafayette football game in the fall of 2023. Dean says that “though Lehigh lost, I still have attended more wins than losses. I frequently see Dave Klein and Michael Goldberg. We are all founding fathers of Lehigh’s Sigma Eta chapter of AEPi.” Our daughter, MaryHelen ’11, was married on June 22 to Gyle Warner with about 25 Lehigh alums in attendance. There were lots of Gamma Phi Beta sisters there, ranging from myself as the ancient one, and Carol (Ehrens) Gordon ’81 (and Mike Gordon ’81) and on to the majority from Class of ’11. ’78 Gail D. Reinhart, 215 N. Center St., #1407, San Antonio, TX 78202-2723. ladygailus@yahoo.com Glenn Riggin and Carol (Richardi) Riggin retired about a decade ago (Glenn from AT&T, Carol from J&J) and relocated to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where they had vacationed with Colleen and Jeff Hummel for over 30 years. Jeff and Colleen relocated there from Northern Virginia a few years ago. Glenn also reports that Jeff Shaffer and his wife, Sue, live in New Hope, Pa. Jeff recently retired as president of IE Shaffer & Company, their family benefits administration business, and they’ve purchased a vacation home in Jacksonville, Fla. In 2023, the Riggines, Hummels and Shaffers traveled to Morristown, N.Y., where Jim Maynard and wife Maureen have a vacation home on the St. Lawrence River. Jim and Maureen have also retired, and split their time between Morristown, N.J., and “The River.” Everyone had a great time boating, and later, traveling to the Finger Lakes for wine tasting. Rob Nahigian continues to run his commercial real estate firm, Auburndale Realty Co., in Newton, Mass., and continues to be of service to others in that field. He’s serving as an instructor for Certificate of Real Estate Studies programs offered by Boston University and by the Massachusetts chapter of the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks. In addition, he provides litigation support to the Massachusetts Division of Occupational Licenses on complaints against real estate brokers. Bob Brown and his wife, Charlotte, now spend most of the year in Naples, Fla., but go back to the Philadelphia area in the summer to see kids (two), grandkids (two), and friends. Since Bob retired from PwC in 2017, they’ve done a lot of traveling. Bob stepped off the Lehigh board last year after 18 years of service. He says, “It was great to see our alma mater thrive in the years since we were on campus.” Bob also mentions that four other AXP brothers live in Naples (Paul Thomas and Zack Lilienfeld, as well as John Schatz ’77 and Ray Trakimas ’77), and they see a good deal of each other, for golf or dining. Tom Faughnan and his wife, Maura, visited the group for several days this February. Terry Pilch now lives in the Florida Panhandle and is doing well but doesn’t get to Naples as often as Bob would like. A while ago Bob Kennedy sold his company and retired from electrical engineering to write children’s books under the pen name “Mr. ChickenBiscuits.” He’s published
