Cummings ’10, Baltimore, Md., Jan. 23, 2025. A Sigma Alpha Mu member, Cummings worked for TranSystems as a marine-industrial structural engineer. His sibling, Owen Cummings, is a member of the Class of 2005. Graduate John H. Young M.S. ’52, Lancaster, Pa., Feb. 9, 2025. Young was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a research chemist at Armstrong Cork Company and holds five patents. Kathryn (Verona) Schott M.A. ’56, Oxford, N.J., Jan. 28, 2025. Schott was a teacher and guidance counselor for over 30 years. She then served as the executive director of the Northampton County Bar Association. Milton L. Embree M.S. ’57, Wyomissing, Pa., Jan. 9, 2025. A veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, Embree worked for AT&T Bell Labs for over 40 years and held over 30 patents. His child, David Embree, is a member of the Class of 1976. James C. Werkheiser M.Ed. ’59, Marshalls Creek, Pa., April 18, 2025. A drafted baseball player and veteran of the U.S. Army, Werkheiser worked in the East Stroudsburg Area School District for 35 years. Jack O. Beamer M.A. ’64, Bethlehem, Pa., April 14, 2025. Beamer worked for PP&L for 30 years, serving as director of rates and market research. He then worked for Northampton Community College as an assistant dean. Helen (McKinney) Irvine M.Ed. ’64, Bethlehem, Pa., Dec. 14, 2024. Irvine worked as a flight attendant and then teacher in the Bethlehem Area School District for 25 years. John F. McCarty M.S. ’64, Raleigh, N.C., Dec. 26, 2024. McCarty had a 35-year career with IBM. Harold G. Bonekemper M.Ed. ’65 Ed.D. ’74, Pennsburg, Pa., March 10, 2025. Bonekemper was the retired superintendent of Upper Perkiomen School District. He was also the coordinator of professional development at Muhlenberg College. Charles G. Stoltz M.A. ’65, Bethlehem, Pa., Feb. 4, 2025. Stoltz was an English teacher in the Palisades School District for 35 years. William L. Bronstein MBA ’66, Elizabethtown, Pa., Jan. 5, 2025. Bronstein made his career with Hershey Foods. Barton B. Proger M.A. ’66, Ed.D. ’68, Selinsgrove, Pa., March 17, 2025. Proger worked as a director of special education at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit for 32 years. Joseph Colella M.S. ’67, Bradenton, Fla., April 17, 2025. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Colella made his career with Western Electric/AT&T. Patricia A. (Blaschak) Hussar M.Ed. ’67, Phelps, N.Y., Jan. 21, 2025. Hussar had a 30-year teaching career. Herbert L. Gilles Ph.D. ’68, Easton, Pa., Jan. 17, 2025. Gilles worked as a research consultant for Bethlehem Steel. Paul F. McLaughlin M.S. ’68, Naples, Fla., March 7, 2025. McLaughlin was an engineer who worked mostly in the semiconductor industry, including as CEO of Rudolph Technologies. Johann M. Evely M.Ed. ’69, Dunmore, Pa., Jan. 21, 2025. Evely taught in the Easton Area School District. Eden M. (Abad) Thompson M.S. ’71, Orem, Utah, Feb. 3, 2025. Thompson taught mathematics at several different levels, retiring as tenured faculty at Utah Valley University. Clifford G. Franks Ed.D. ’72, Exton, Pa., March 6, 2025. Franks spent 32 years with the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District, where he held several positions including principal and assistant to the superintendent. Catharine S. Dunn M.Ed. ’75, Bethlehem, Pa., March 5, 2025. Dunn was the founder and director of the Salem United Church of Christ Preschool Program for many years. She was also a guidance counselor for Sheckler Elementary School for 16 years. Toby B. Mills MBA ’75, Upper St. Clair, Pa., Dec. 24, 2024. Mills worked in the controller’s office of Westinghouse and as a homemaker. Nancy (Connolly) Compton M.Ed. ’77, Lititz, Pa., March 24, 2025. Compton was a commercial artist, art instructor and substitute teacher. Her spouse, Glenn Compton ’75G, is a member of the Lehigh family. Mildred E. Henning M.Ed. ’77, Bethlehem Township, Pa., Feb. 18, 2025. Henning worked as an educational consultant, a remedial and developmental reading teacher, an educational diagnostician and a mentor teacher to new hires. She was also an adjunct professor and college supervisor in the graduate school of Cabrini College. D. Cameron Alderfer Jr. M.A. ’82, Easton, Pa., March 17, 2025. Alderfer was a teacher for 33 years. He taught Spanish in high school and established the foreign language programs at Warren County Community College. Baidya Nath Paul M.Eng. ’82, Allentown, Pa., April 8, 2025. Paul worked for the Fuller Company for 44 years. Mark C. Plucinsky M.S. ’83 M.S. ’84 Ph.D. ’86, Whitehall, Pa., Feb. 1, 2025. Plucinsky worked as associate director of laboratories at Johnson & Johnson, Shire and Medimmune. Zhongcheng Xiong M.S. ’84 Ph.D. ’89, Philadelphia, Pa., Feb. 4, 2025. Xiong taught math at the University of Scranton for 37 years. She was the first Asian faculty member there. Brenda L. (Smith) Griffin M.Ed. ’85, Beach Haven, N.J., Feb. 28, 2025. Joseph A. Sohara Ph.D. ’86, Northampton, Pa., March 16, 2025. Sohara worked in energetic materials, received seven patents and eventually retired from Minerals Technologies Inc. His child, Heather Sohara ’16G, is a member of the Lehigh family. Michele L. Millhouse M.Ed. ’04 Ed.S. ’05, Midland, Mich., March 4, 2025. Millhouse was a school psychologist with the Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District. Laurian (Taylor) Van Munster M.Ed. ’04, Rochester, N.Y., March 13, 2025. Van Munster made her career helping young children with special needs.
