During the spring semester, I continued to write for The Brown and White, which has been really interesting and exciting. In the beginning of the semester, I decided to rush, and joined Alpha Phi! So far, it has been so much fun, and I have met so many new people. I have been able to participate in tons of fundraising events and contribute my time to our philanthropy, the Alpha Phi Foundation, which raises money for women’s heart health. I also declared my majors! I am majoring in economics and psychology and minoring in journalism. So far, this semester has been the best one yet, but I am so sad to finish freshman year and move out of Lower Cents. Baylee Baker is double majoring in psychology and political science. She says the clubs and groups she is part of have given her many opportunities. She is part of the Debate Club and has visited different colleges competing in debate tournaments. She got to go to Washington, D.C., for the first time for a debate tournament. She is also part of College Democrats, which allowed her to have dinner with Susan Wild and President Helble. She also finds community in Phi Alpha Delta, the law fraternity on campus. All of these groups have allowed her to make amazing connections and friendships, and she is so excited to continue to get involved next year. Eliza Hirschey, a mechanical engineering major, has also enjoyed getting involved at Lehigh. She is on the club ski team. This year, the team made it to regionals, where they competed in Virginia. Eliza also attends Formula SAE meetings, where they are building a race car to be raced in Michigan at the end of the year. So far, she has learned how to weld to build parts of a car. She likes it because it is concentrated and precise, and she feels accomplished because they are working toward an end goal. She also rushed this year and joined Kappa Delta. She enjoys being involved in Greek life at Lehigh because it gives her a sense of community and purpose. Graduate College of Education Mort Sherman Ed.D. ’84 wrote in that he “was the first editor of the College of Ed newsletter, was one of two all university fellows when Perry Zirkel was dean, and loved my time at Lehigh.” He also reports that he and his daughter have a newly published book, “Resonant Minds: The Transformative Power of Music, One Note at a Time.”
