Alumni Bulletin-Spring26

48 | LEHIGH ALUMNI BULLETIN | CLASS NOTES The foreword was written by past PGA of America President MG Orender. After the book was published, Len was a featured guest on the golf podcast “Next on the Tee” to share stories from the book. Lori (Litman) Erlich shared that she has accepted a position at Boston University as the inaugural Executive Director of a new journalism initiative to support and sustain local news. This follows her 14 years in the Massachusetts legislature establishing the local journalism commission to counter news deserts and to explore successful business models for more and better coverage. She commented that it has already been inspiring starting to build it out with Boston Globe alum and BU Journalism Chair Brian McGrory, along with news veterans Steve Greenlee and Jason Tuohey. As a journalism major and lifelong news junkie, I applaud Lori for working to strengthen local news. It benefits us all. I’m excited for my husband Mike ’83, who recently accepted a position on the Advisory Committee for the Electrical Engineering Department in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Science. It’s always nice to have another reason to go back to Bethlehem and to connect with students and professors, as well as the alumni community. ’86 Dave Polakoff, 400 E. 71st St., #3K, New York, NY 10021, david@dpolakoff.com. “This one goes out to the one I love. This one goes out to the one I’ve left behind” (R.E.M.). Resolve your column absence: Email me. I was at Lehigh-Lafayette #161—Lafayette’s bicentennial. Now my goal: Lehigh’s 200th. Who’s with me? Sighted in Easton: Tony Cicitta, Sue Lustig, Linda Kagan Horowitz and John Marren. John is BeOne Medicine’s (oncology pharmaceuticals) senior director, insurance and risk management. An annual gathering of KAs (John, Bill Phelan, Bob Klein, Eric Levy, John Schneider, Joel Field and Keith Gardener), in Lake Ariel, Pa., included foosball, beer pong and general camaraderie. The Marching 97 comprises a drum major, plus twelve ranks of eight. Snaring an update from one of John’s fellow drummers, Fred Glick has a grandchild roster fulfilling half the 97’s drum rank. Fred has a paradiddle of titles, chair of the California Restaurant Association and the California Restaurant Foundation. Email me if your title is cooler than Fred’s: “Brewpub Chieftain.” Fred and wife, Felicia, toured Italy and France in 2025. Carol and Robert Kalmey visited Venice and Florence last autumn and cruised to Spain, Morocco and Portugal this spring. Todd Griesemer is testing his palette, in all weather, if he can bear “retirement,” brushing aside an unvarnished, no-stain, 22 years with Behr paints. Speaking of enamel, Howard Goldstein, DDS, has one son at the University of Maryland and another at the University of Virginia. Without diluting his private practice, Howard extended his roots with Tailgate Travel, specializing in trips to Israel. Chris Polek has 37 years with Fairfield, N.J.’s, Polek & Polek, specializing in copying and duplication machine parts and supplies to imaging dealers. Chris and Dunder Mifflin give thanks for the false rumors of the “paperless society.” Carolyn (Kisliuk) Scott has 33+ years with Boston area’s AECOM-Environment as a senior product manager. Husband Peter Scott is a senior product engineer with Anomet Products. Carolyn, Sally (Gaintner) Hess, Jacqueline Mosca, Tammy (Della Rodolfa) Thompson and Julie (Kline) McLean (transferred to University of Maine) celebrated 60th birthdays with Class of ’87 ladies in Savannah, Ga. CJ Fraleigh joined Lehigh’s Board of Trustees. CJ co-leads e2p, a private equity firm focused on owning entrepreneurial food businesses. Involved at his church, CJ’s also dad to four, all in their 20s. Hey math majors, calculate what it means for us at Lehigh’s 2026 reunion. Our committee, Kari (Hackbarth) Arienti, Jon Daniels, Susan Lustig, Marlena (Mihalakis) Alex, Vince Mueller, Judy (Lannin) Panagakos and Foti Panagakos, Sharon (Kanovsky) Richter and Jan (Panariello) Mansley (questions/comments: Jan@ mansleys.com), is planning a Friday pub night and screening of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” plus Saturday’s parade and class dinner. Don’t be as tight as Cameron—call your ’86 posse and motivate attendance. If you call in sick, again, “It’s getting pretty tough coming up with new illnesses.” Finally, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” “Oh, moon of Alabama, we now must say goodbye” (The Doors). ’87 Laura M. D’Orsi, 26 Falcon Ridge Circle, Holmdel, NJ 07733, (732) 241-5229 (H); lauramdorsi@yahoo.com It was an amazing fall for Lehigh football, where they were undefeated, won the Patriot League and held their first home FCS playoff game in years. Sadly, Lehigh lost to Villanova at the playoff game, but they had nothing to be ashamed of, after their stellar season. As we attend the home games, it was fun to see alums at various events and reconnect. During most home games Perry Smith, Mike Kosko and Joe Uliana are at the Rusk Pavilion grilling up hot dogs, which they have called “Victory Dogs” and even made The Brown and White. Perry also steps in at games with a press pass as a team photographer. During the Penn game for Family Weekend, I saw Karl Pupke, whose son is a freshman, and Raj Bhatia, whose son is also a freshman. The weekend of Lehigh-Lafayette, Peter Antico did not disappoint with his Lafayette tailgate, attended by classmates Rich Mazzella and Todd Silva (who came from Florida), and many other Theta Xi alums. Pete usually brings a heater in addition to a top-notch bar and food. At the FCS playoff game, Joe Yammarino ’85 had his tailgate in the perfect spot at the circle, attended by many Alpha Sig alums, including Larry Hunter ’83, Andy Bergdoll ’85, Tom Healy ’85, and other alums such as Kathy Duggan Trimble and Dave Trimble ’86. Also attending were Dave Polakoff ’86, Gregg Paster ’88, Jamie Sorcher Pitzer ’88, Sean Pitzer ’88 and Peter Van Duyne ’86. There was a tremendous attendance by ’86, ’87 and ’88 at many of the Lehigh events this fall, especially the playoff game. Stu Seltzer reached out to let me know about an honor for which Andrew Levy was recognized. Andrew received the Ed Lucas Humanitarian Award at the David Cone celebrity golf outing, which was a star-studded event. David Cone introduced Andrew, which was touching, and then Andrew gave a nice speech, which was funny as well. Andrew’s Sammy brothers chipped in to create a fun tribute ad that contained the ’84 and ’87 Sammy composites (someone has good scrapbooking skills). Andrew was supported at the event by Stu, Rob Levine, Gregg Balbera, Jeff Neu, Rob Michaels, Stacie Caplan Kiralsous ’89 and Cliff Seltzer ’91. Congrats to Andrew for this honor, and thanks to Stu for reaching out. Keep the news coming, and look forward to seeing you all. ’88 Jamie Sorcher Pitzer, jamiesor cher@gmail.com, 908-415-9471 Right now the words that keep ringing in my ear: December football! With bone-chilling cold temps but clear blue skies, it was the pinnacle of an incredible football season to be back at Goodman Stadium for the Lehigh-Villanova game, which brought out so many friends from not only the Class of 1988, but ’86, ’87, ’89 and more. Yes, we had a tough loss, but there is so much to be grateful for, including the amazing turnout of fans and the tremendous support from our era, along with a $2.5 million endowment to make sure we’ve got top talent
