Alumni Bulletin-Spring26

CLASS NOTES | SPRING 2026 | 45 fraternity house that hangs over my desk 50 years later! Yes, it’s that good! If you served in any of the military services after graduation (or before), please send an email. I’d like to dedicate a future column to those of us who served. It would be neat to see how many veterans we have. Go back to the ’80s and Bob Daday used to broadcast LU basketball games. He now does a podcast show called “The VIP Podcast Show with Bobby Dee.” He’s interviewed several distinguished Lehigh athletes/graduates, including Joe Sterrett. If you would consider being interviewed, or know someone who would be a great fit, contact Bob directly at rdaday@ att.net. And open your calendar now and block off the weekend of June 11-14, 2026. It’s our Lehigh Reunion. Highlights include the Friday ReunionFest celebration of all classes. The Historic Parade of Classes goes Saturday morning, with the class celebrating its 50th anniversary in the place of honor at the end. That’s us! That Saturday night, there’s a class dinner, as well as a reception at the President’s House. More details will follow. After graduation, I was on active duty in the Marine Corps being deployed around the planet quite often. I didn’t even get home for the birth of one of my sons … getting to a class reunion just wasn’t in the cards. By the time I retired from the Marines, getting to a reunion wasn’t high on my priority list. But … I’ve got June 11-14 blocked off on my calendar. I will try my best to get there. I hope you do so, too. And finally, Jamie Holbrook and I have been sending emails to individual classmates asking for input. If you’ve never seen your name in here, please consider sending something. We would love hearing from you! ’77 Ann Louise (Werley) Price, 2 Colton St., Farmington, CT 06032. (860) 677-1295 (H); prokemo@comcast.net I received a nice email from David Gross, who had part of a goalpost from the Lehigh-Lafayette game in 1974 that he used as a paperweight for over 50 years. The original ticket is affixed to the post … $6 got you a seat at that game! David sold his dermatology practice in St. Augustine last year. He keeps in touch with some TEP brothers. I am sad to report that Jim Golle passed away in October. His Pi Kappa Alpha brother Mark Hembarsky ’80 kindly shared some thoughts with me: “People who knew him would say, ‘There is one, and only one, Jim Golle.’ Jim was deeply loved by his family, his Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brothers and all his friends. He always had something funny to say, some words of advice to offer, and he left a lasting impression. Jim is survived by Lisa, his wife, four children, including Erica Golle ’02, and their spouses, six grandchildren, his sister and many other extended family members. Thirteen PIKEs plus three Lehigh spouses attended Jim’s celebration of life event, including Lew Hay and Gene Zawislak. Jim was the heart of PIKE during his years at Lehigh and after.” Jim’s wife said that “Jim loved everything and every moment at Lehigh.” Our condolences to Jim’s family. ’78 Gail D. Reinhart, 215 N. Center St., #1407, San Antonio, TX 78202-2723. ladygailus@yahoo.com Imagine being a Mountain Hawk football player, finishing the season 11-1, but the one was the Lafayette game. Yikes! Fortunately, our guys avoided that after a game with many lead changes and again qualified for the FCS playoffs. Bob Kennedy, aka Mr. ChickenBicuits, got in touch with me from his home near Nashville, Tenn., to report that his 13th “Sam the Dog” children’s book came out in October. If you have grandchildren or other young friends in the 4-8 age range, “Sam Has a Mouse in His House” is available at amazon.com/gp/product/ B0FYY5W1NG. Bob says the competition as a children’s author is “overwhelming” compared to his old electrical equipment industry, but he enjoys writing and illustrating the books and doing classroom visits after each launch. Several of the Sam books have been translated into French and Spanish. Bob also pointed out that I don’t say much about what I’m up to. Fair enough, here’s an update. I’m retired as both a federal civil servant and a judge advocate in the Air Force Reserve. Most of my career was spent in the Washington, D.C., area, where I grew up, but I took a job in San Antonio shortly before my retirement because I hate cold weather. In September, I came east for my 50th high school reunion in Annapolis, Md., and met up with my Alpha Gam sister Leslie Reynen, who drove down from New Jersey. We had a blast sightseeing, eating, drinking and talking about old and new good times. At the end of December, Rob Nahigian of Auburndale Realty in Newton, Mass., finished his term as national vice chairman of engagement and retention for Counselors of Real Estate (CRE). He’s proud of his accomplishments in that role, particularly developing programs to help CRE members generate business. These included “How to Be Engaged as an Expert Witness,” “How to Win State and Local Public Assignments” and “How to Secure Corporate Real Estate Assignments.” As his final hurrah, he served on the planning committee for CRE’s annual global conference, obtaining panelists, moderators and exhibitors for the Detroit, Mich., event. I hope the rest of you are happy and healthy and will let me know what you’ve been up to. You can reach me by snail mail, email or our class Facebook group at facebook.com/ groups/Lehigh1978. ’79 Lance M. Bell, 952 River Run Dr., Macedonia, OH 44056-2369. (216) 2193729 (mobile); lanceb344@gmail.com I’m starting this column with a mystery that Jessi McMullan ’05 of the Alumni Office and I would like your help to solve. A Class of 1979 ring was found in an office drawer at Lehigh. There was no documentation with the ring. It has a blue stone, engineering-themed engravings and an inscription on it (MLB6940). If you have any information or ideas to share, please contact me and I will share with Jessi. Hugo Gravenhorst and his spouse Terry traveled to Sundance, Utah, in August 2025 for the mountaintop wedding of Hannah Sue Hults and Christopher Mueller ’17. Christopher is the son of John Mueller and Anne (Walsh) Mueller ’83. The wedding party included John and Anne’s son Steve ’12 and daughter Jennifer ’14. Dave Deroche and spouse Katie were also in attendance, as were many other Lehigh alumni relatives and friends. John is the owner and CEO of G&W Electric Co., a worldwide provider of innovative power system solutions and products. Dave is principal at FES Midwest, a leading supplier of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. After a long career in finance and investments, Hugo dabbles at ski and beach bumming. Many of you have visited our class Facebook page to see photos and a video from the 2025 First-Year Student Rally. Barry Glickman addressed and welcomed the Class of 2029. Caesar Gorski carried our flag again, as he has for many years. Caesar also brought buckets of beads left over from our previous class reunions. James Falk, Kal Chany and Julie (Cassidy) Schiefer tossed beads to the incoming first-years during the Parade of Class Flags. I was on cowbell and pompom duty during the parade. During the dinner that preceded the event, I also enjoyed visiting with Denise and Eric Blew, Mike Silverman and Paul Sudol. David Friedfeld sent an update to share. Dave spent his freshman year living in Dravo with Jim Davis. His sophomore year he served as a Gryphon
